Since we are about to jump into a the summer side set I figured we needed a thread on the flavor, story points and/or reference we might see in the cards. While I don't think we will see a ton of stuff for the future, we are getting a new walker, besides Serra, who might be a player in the future story and legendary creatures like Ezuri, claw of progress or one off cards like Phyrexian Arena that give us a glimpse into whats been going on on certain places or characters while we been away.
So far we have Cabal Therapist who is a referee to Cabal Therapy in effect as well having the horror from the original art being the therapist and Serra the Benevolent a planeswalker many have been asking for. Her ability are all nods to other cards linked her to; her plus 2 is Serra Aviary, her negative 3 makes Serra Angel tokens and finally her ultimate gives her a emblem with Worship a card very much tied to Serra.

Hardly. Serra is dead and has been from long before the invasion of Phyrexians on Dominaria.
I believe he is referring to the other walker besides Serra.

It is also not impossible that we might see serra in a standard set in the future as well, Kamigawa and coldsnap are good exemples that not every standard set needs to be in chronological order, but due to the storyline from today (following the gatewatch) it lowers the possibility of this happening.

Judging from the Chronicles of Bolas, I believe they could use the Core set for exploring past events.
In any case, before the real protagonists of the story were the planes themselves (not during the Weatherlight saga, obviously). That permitted to be able to "time-jump" without problems, like from the Invasion to Onslaught, to Kamigawa to Time Spiral. Now, with the planeswalker-centric story (and they no-more-eternal lifespan) the possibility of this were reduced drastically.
And Jared Carthalion shows up in flavor text, which is exciting enough. The cards seem to span planes and eras. I'm not sensing any coherent story--more like the Core sets of old.

Urza is sweet and we have some stuff we can dig into with him. His ebt make the same token as Karn, Scion of Urza and his activated ability is Temporal Aperture. Also it seem he being locked into core blue since both of his creature cards are mono-blue. This might be something we might see later on if we get a proper Urza walker card.
Also from Chillerpillar seems that the snow cards are connected and maybe we are seeing a hints of a snow world.

I for one am salty we are wasting a slot on a neowalker...I will be even more salty when it turns out to be another ******* white human like we don't have enough of those already. Cause Maro's precious surveys say people like Human Walkers more which is true but utterly lacking in context.

Honesty it just sounds like you wanting an excuse to be upset.
And you have copy and pasted this point in other threads so I really don't think it needs to be said here again until we seen the other walker.

Morophon, the boundless is almost certainly in an unvisited plane (see the planets / moons in the sky?) and if you look at the extended art, on the ground there is snow and in the background there are animals generally associated with cold areas.
If the other shapeshifters are from the same plane we can assume that the plane also has desertic areas and is not just an ice-age (the cgi movies) plane, but something more articulated.
I wouldn't mind visiting a plane like that in a standard set. The snowglobe planes with only a single gimmick to them are quite boring.

Not sure if we will get more info but IIRC the slivers found on Rath (and later brought to Dominaria) and Shandalar aren't naive to the plane, so The First Sliver is a hint at their origin and home world.

Planebound accomplice shows in the background what seems to be the being shown time ago in an art panel (or whatever).
That is most probably a planeswalker then, which rules out Mishra, Yawgmoth and Gaea.
Some planes are actually fleshed out like Tarkir or in some cases Innistrad. Others have just a specific gimmick that distinguishes them and in the cards you never get to see anything else than 1 or 2 settings.
- Kaladesh, for example: you only see 1 city full of space indians and artifacts because that was the gimmick of the plane. You never get to explore the wilds or anywhere else.
- Fiora, all took place inside of Palliano. Never get to see anythign else.
- Ixalan had the gimmick of dinosaurs and pirates and as such the cards only depicted jungles and seas with a few depicting the ruins of the golden city.
- Amonkhet was just one city because that was the gimmick: a city sorrounded by desert.
EDIT: not saying that the planes themselves just have a single kind of environment (some have, tho) but that the way WotC is showing them in their products is so narrow that they might just be a boring snowglobe. Last plane I remember WotC bothered to show more than a couple environments was Zendikar.

Magics worlds are pretty fleshed out issue is the cards can't really show it all so a lot of world building stuff just never makes it into the cards.

Sooo, is the guy on Umezawa's Charm Toshiro or Tetsuo? Judging by the Jitte I would say Toshiro, but I don't remember if the weapon was handed down to Tetsuo.
And we have our new walker, Wrenn a red/green....something land mage. Not much flavor on her from the article except the fact Wrenn is able to live in tree folk which she uses like a mech vehicle. Currently we have her with Six, the sixth tree folk she has had. If I had to guess I wanna she is/was a dryad since I kinda see a Trostoni vibe. While interesting flavor and powerful card, kinda feels old design wise begin RG and being lands based.

Edit: Also I wonder what happened to one-five
Yeah, I don't think Wrenn is human. You're probably right that she's a dryad, since other dryads depicted in Magic tend to have the ability to live inside or move through trees.
On another note entirely, the number crunch suggests we might have a chance of seeing more reimagined Weatherlight Saga characters, specifically a new Gerrard. Of course, Gix and even Yawgmoth are still possible but I'm not exactly holding my breath on those.

They did mentions Sissay isWUBRG so she could get members of the weatherlight so I think it be safe we get a few other members.

Those in need of a new card are:
- Crovax (crovax the cursed isn't that creat and is in the reserved list iirc)
- Gerrard (Gerrard Capashen is underwhelming to say the least)
- Tahngarth (Tahngarth, Talruum Hero is... Eh... Not bad, but... Could be much better)
- Ertai (because Ertai, Wizard Adept is reserved and... Meh...)... On the other hand Ertai, the Corrupted isn't bad, but at that point he was no longer part of the Weatherlight crew.
- Orim (Orim, Samite Healer reserved list and who would ever want to play with that?)
- Rofellos (Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary is pretty strong, but still... Reserved list)
- Starke (Starke of Rath is interesting, but... still in the reserved list, right?)
Karn, Squee and Multani already have their modern legal versions. Mirri and Hanna could get the Modern Horizon reprint, tho.
EDIT: Mirri doesn't enter in the number crunch...

I swear, the only thing this set needs now is a Gix card. With art by Pete Venters.
