Yeah if they don't kill Bolas, what happens next with him? He goes off to lick his wounds and start his schemes from scratch? Bolas loses his spark and rapidly goes back to the nearly senile dragon he had been on Alara? And what do they do with him if he is still alive. Cage him up? Have him flee to some secret planar bunker? Be slayed by someone off-screen like if Garruk shows up? If they fall back on a Xanatos Gambit, then beating or killing is practically impossible, because there is no chink in Bolas's figurative or literal armor.
Let's also note that Bolas has "died" before. He was brought back specifically so he could serve as a big bad.

Onering's 4 simple steps that let you solve any problem with Magic's gameplay
Whether its blue players countering your spells, red players burning you out, or combo, if you have a problem with an aspect of Magic's gameplay, you can fix it!
Step 1: Identify the problem. What aspect of Magic don't you like? Step 2: Find out how others deal with the problem. How do players deal with this aspect of the game when they run into it? Step 3: Do what those players do. Step 4: No more problem. Bonus: You are now better at Magic. Enjoy those extra wins!
To be fair, he got offed in a set of side books in a way that makes the Eldrazi Titan fireball look sensible. That isn't to say that the Legends books were bad, but how Tetsuo killed Bolas will be more BS than how the Gatewatch does.
Plot twist, Nicol tries to call Tezzeret to take the sun away so he can get away, The Bridge Opens up to Amonkhet..then Garruk shows up and axes Tezzeret from behind. Gives the thumbs up and leaves.
So many new PWs... And they are all humans... all of them... apparently gender diversity is a thing at WotC, but not race diversity... elves are after the humans the most prolific races in the multiverse and they got only one PW, for example?!
For me the weirdest detail is Chandra being surrounded by Azorius surveillance thopters, which Dovin brought to Ravnica. And they don't seem to attack her. Does Dovin turn against Bolas once he realizes Bolas' plans are in fact not for the good of the citizens?

Well you according to Maro non Humans are less popular. Of course Nissa has issues which I guess are related to her being an elf. But her Walker cards being the weakest on average among the first 5 Gatewatchers and her racism plot stuff probably did more damage then her merely being an ELF. I am not saying Maro's data is wrong. I think how that data is being interrupted is wrong.
I mean Aminatou fine unique theme is good. But do the Kenriths, Shield Mage, Not Elspeth, Bant Mask Enchantress and Davriel all need to be more white humans. Do we not have enough...I will cut Davriel some lack since you know Sanderson is probably not thinking about all the other human Walkers but that is only two out of the last seven with some good justification.

Maybe she just takes control of them. She is from Kaladesh, after all, so she may recognize a weakness in their design and exploit it to hijack them. Of course this would require her expanding her abilities beyond burnination of all the things, but that's probably a good directions for her character.

Yeah, I was more agreeing that they aren't scared of killing off Bolas because they have already done so once before. Although, this also means that they may not be afraid of resurrecting him in a decade if they feel like it. Unless they kill him, chop him up into little bits, burn the bits, then scatter the ashes on several artificial planes before collapsing said planes or feeding them to Emrakul, his death is going to have a question mark after it, and honestly in universe the gatewatch should doubt his demise.

I mean we got time travel in this story and resurrection magic. So if they want him back it doesn't matter how dead he is they can always bring him back.

Lol that could work although doesn't the Blackblade eat Souls so presumably there should be no resurrection if the Blackblade kills you. I meant true resurrection though, Elspeth had that ability although that might and probably should have a time limit on it. Still even if the Blackblade eats souls then we should be good with Time Travel (Teferi, Karn) or Reality Warping (Aminatou). Assuming Bolas didnt make a horcrux or something.

Yeah, after I made my post (which was intended specifically to render necromancy ineffective) I realized horcruxes (horcri?), clones imbued with ancestral memory ala Dune, his personality being implanted in his Planeswalker underlings enabling him to possess them from beyond the grave, and straight up the blackblade drinking his soul but it eventually getting destroyed thus releasing his soul at a later date (the Helvault Gambit).
Yeah, no matter how dead they make him, he can come back if they feel like it and there are a lot of options that would work given what we know of the story and what we know about Bolas. And again, this is all easier to accept as this is a character that has already pulled this trick once.

Are we talking about the same Chandra? Because that seems like the most un-chandra-like thing.
I don't read much into mtg storyline, but does anyone thinks the whole raven man deal is a long con for the next in line? and that the raven man is, in fact, yawgmoth? who else could been around when the onakke were living and powerful enough to actually be the one behind their destruction? (iirc, yawg's life has a lot of gaps, including one where he just sets out through the world spreading ill and chaos through many civilizations; he wasnt a planeswalker but before the mending people could journey along them, so maybe he got there through someone)
also, the raven man seemed to know emrakul decently enough - and those who are aware of eldrazi are usually old, powerful beings themselves... plus, now that one thinks about the properties of glistening oil, it seems awfully similiar to an artificial/manipulated version of what happens to beings influenced by the eldrazi; or am i just tripping? maybe yawg got to know about the titans way back when? (of course, this is all possible only cause it can be inserted into his storyline, there never was such a thing as eldrazi during mtg's urza/phyrexian saga...)
i'm just conspiring though, really, could be anything else
but it just seems so weird to me, this whole raven man thing - he seems way too powerful, has the eugenic/researcher background hints and his DEEP back history points to someone that has acted a lot already upon the worlds.
Raven Man feels more like Lim-DUl. Yawgmoth is dead and won't comeback(Wizards words btw). His time is done and will be forever remenbered as sutch.
Next villains are definitly the Phyrexians and i don't doubt Tezzeret will be involved. Almsot bet that he will go for the title of father of machines. Hyped for the Phyrexians return has the big baddies. Need the cyborg zombies to comeback.
Powerful Dominarian necromancer, connections to Shandalar, experience with both soul-binding artifact usage, history of associating with dark Planeswalkers, and a somewhat ambiguous fate. They even look almost exactly the same: same hair, same beard, same facial structure. To top it off, there's even a city on Shandalar named for the dark Planeswalker Leshrac, whose ambitions Lim-Dul once traveled to Shandalar to serve.
Yawgmoth, on the other hand, is not only dead, he's so dead that a specific scene in which it seemed a portion of his essence might have survived was specifically singled out and retconned in subsequent novels to assert that he is in fact, dead.

I really like this idea and I'm assuming the reason he doesn't get a card in War is because he traps everyone including Bolas on Ravnica by dumping the Sun and then leaving with the bridge. He has the one thing the Phyrexians want and at least two worlds he's been to that he could pretty easily conquer with the help of the Phyrexians (Esper and Kaladesh). In fact Esper wouldn't even really need to be conquered, their philosophy is close enough to that of the Phyrexians that he could subvert it.
Wonder if ugin is going to have to assimilate/fuse with bolas once he's weakened. Him eventually breaking Ugin down and returning as a big bad could be something they could leave in the wings for another return in 10-15 years.
What sort of details might we expect to learn at PAX East this month?
I'd guess the basic story details and a few preview cards. Might also get some insight on how the storyline is shaping up between the differnt media. I'd also bet a preview card or two to show what the new walkers are like.
Since we have so many walkers and characters my new thought is maybe the web fiction will show the side storylines (Nahiri, SOrin, Ugin and Ob interacting, some more on the new walkers, some walkers without cards in the set, the legends of ravnica like krenko that don't fit in the guilds ect) while the main gatewatch storyline is with the gatewatch. We still know the end result but most of us vorthos would want to have more story and more details happen.
