agree, it was a quick, fun story. I thought the speaker getting mutated by a museum exhibit happened rather quickly without as much anguish/worry as I wouldve expected.

I do think its telling that after this way of Storytelling with the new Ravnica set, there is only a small hand full of posts about each story. Contrast that with previous story line forum threads and the pages of discussion that could ensue after each weeks story.
Its like people aren't even interested in reading them because they know it will shed no light on the plot. They are just fillers. Which would be great if filler stories were done in the down times between sets and not as a replacement for the set Stories.
Hopefully they go back to the way it was and not the book idea in the future.

There just isn't much to talk about, it is world building and doesn't give us much new information. The Guilds are the Guilds and are gonna do Guild things, it doesn't promote a whole lot of discussion..but the actual plots will end up better in book form because they aren't trying to shove an "epic" story line into 50 pages worth of weekly stories.

I honestly find stories like these a lot more interesting, because they complete the world, instead of using the world as a stepping stone for certain few. Normally that isn't a problem, but the Gatewatch and most of the PWs came after Mending just aren't as interesting, even Bolas got a downgrade in personality, so I prefer stories about a plane's commoners. Not to mention, these who appear in the stories might turn out to be legendary creatures in future set!
Back to the story: So not everyone in Simic is willing to go through rapid evolution, but dominant cards from all Ravnica expansions dictate artificial evolution to be Simic prime directive. Originally Simic/Selesnya were created to preserve nature, each to their own end, maybe one day when End-Raze happened and is over these green-aligned guilds will rebuild nature together, more coherently than ever.
That is straight out wrong, Pre-mending Bolas was just as much of a petty **** pre-mending as post.

And that might have something to do with trying to tell an epic story at a breakneck pace, shoving all the plot developments and character developments into short stories that have to continually have to build a setting from scratch in every set that isn't a return too. The majority of the Old Walkers weren't all that interesting either.
Urza is the only one who really had a character arc, which was the entire point of the Nerf so that they can have the core lore of the game actually show up in the plot without breaking it, it just happened that they made that change in the same time they removed the novels from the scene so for the past decade the entire storyline just sort of..meandered.
So I appreciate them trying to tell a more consistent and focused story, even if they chose some of the wrong planeswalkers to focus on..and really wrong plotline to start everything off with.
next story isnt until feb 27th what the heck!? That is three weeks from the last story.
Maybe this last one will have a little more main plat impact if they are making us wait 3 weeks for it.

Well we have Orzhov and Azorius left and at least the Azorius by now have had Dovin taken over so it might touch on on more main plot details but I think its more likely they had given Nicky Drayden a week off or something similar. They did something similar last time where we got 3 stories, break, 2 stories.

I mean in theory "Walkers got nerfed" but Neowalkers seem to fare about as well as Oldwalkers in actual conflicts with less time, experience and "supposedly" time. I mean compare how long Urza takes to get to the endgame against Yawgmoth compared to how long Jace gets to the endgame against Bolas.
[EDH] It's built to be a casual format and to a specific vision, and if you don't like the vision, there's nothing wrong with that, but it's not going to change to accommodate everyone. Big tent is not a goal.
Hopefully Bolas is triumphant. Gideon dies trying to use The Blackblade, all the other walkers lose their sparks and Bolas ascends.
Would be so sweet!
Oh yeah, lets just kill off all the face characters of the game, most of which are actually popular outside of places like this who hate on every planeswalker that shows up for one block. That is totally a good hook to go with now that we got our Shocklands sales bump.

Game of Thrones has proven that you can have successful fantasy storytelling and characters dying. It’s boring to have the same characters in the story over and over and over again with them facing death-defying odds all the time and always escaping with little more than scratches.

I think this is obvious but there are clear differences between "killing important characters at a higher frequency than usual" and "killing off almost your entire established cast of characters in one fell swoop".
My first reaction to seeing the candles being blown out was death too. But there's no way they're going to kill that many planeswalkers. Now I'm inclined to agree with the notion that the candles represent sparks which will be tampered with in some way. The one PW from the main cast I could see dying is Gideon - he's not as popular as Jace, Chandra or Liliana and we can literally see a hole being torn into his chest in the teaser.
Edit: The thing that probably intrigues me the most right now is the smoke from the candles forming Bolas horns and the last candle being the "egg" between them. I wonder if this is just cool, but ultimately meaningless imagery or if that thing will actually end up meaning something.

Just because Bolas wins doesn't mean they all die. But they could lose their sparks for the story and then gain them back somehow later.

While I don't think we will see all those specific walkers, it would be cool for a few other minor walkers who we only have seen once and set up maybe some future character interactions. Example could might the War was the reason Tibalt goes after Chandra in the comic, he was on Ravnica saw her and the gatewatch and decided afterward to experiment on her emotions after.

You mean like how John Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, Arya Stark, The Hound, Cersei Lannister, Jaime Lannister, Tyrion Lannister, Ser Jorah Mormont, Samwell Tarly, Varys, Littlefinger, Theon Greyjoy, Bran Stark, and Sansa Stark have been mainstays of Game of Thrones' story with many, if not most or all, of the show focusing on them and their death-defying exploits?
What Game of Thrones did that was novel was having a fairly wide cast of characters they could pluck individuals from to dress up as 'main characters' for a season or two before offing. The show was great at throwing out red herrings as to who the main characters were, but, time and again, showed they had a select few characters that continuously showed up as main characters and often survived wounds and circumstances you know would have led to any other characters' deaths.
Maybe we'll see some of the central cast die in season 8, but that's not particularly impressive (compared to other series' main characters' deaths) given that it is the very end of the story being told.
Point being, even Game of Thrones didn't kill off all (or even most) of their face characters over the course of its run (and we'll have to see if that changes at the very end of the story in season 8), so it's success is not a good reason for Wizards to kill off all their planeswalkers.
I’m not saying all the planeswalkers should die, but we’ve now had 9 sets in a row with 0 planeswalker deaths, and the last planeswalker who died is in the underworld and can get rescued. Before that we had 6 sets with 0 planeswalker deaths. I understand they like printing new versions of planeswalkers, but planeswalkers aren’t immortal, and at some point some of them should die.

Are we talking about the Show or the Books? I mean WOTC has a got a Wide Cast of Walkers and the last one to die was Elspeth? Since the end of the Urza Saga. Only what three Walkers have died? Venser, Xenagos and Elspeth? The last two might not even be truly dead since Theros afterlife works different. Think Game of Thrones even in the Show has killed more significant characters then that.
I mean this plane does have lots of demons and devils so he fit right in.
What colors is he suppose to be I assume Black at minimum? Although he is not really Red which doesn't really fit Rakdos I guess its fine if he is monoblack. Maybe a devil and demon tribal like sarkhan fireblood.
I bet they push his card considering who wrote him. Card wise.
He was a fun character though although I am still tired of so many Humans. I hope he the last one for awhile.

Sanderson said he originally pitched Davriel as a monoblack heroic character, but he thinks that Dimir or Esper also fit, depending on the needs of the set. (He's a black character who utilizes blue means and has some (more minor) white (orderly) characteristics.)
Fair enough. I mean they did make an Esper Walker recently but eh she is in Commander. Dimir is I guess fairly open since dual color walkers are prominent then tricolor. Doesn't fit with the guild but he be different from Ashiok so that is plus. Still we got shocklands so its not like a Grixis Manabase is all that taxing if he is UB. Could make a cool UBControl Deck with him I guess. Still UB is weird colors if he is a Demonolgist so probably best off as monoblack. His theme doesn't fit Dimir or Esper that great. A quick says only 4 Demons or Devils with Blue exist. Could make more I guess, its pretty open after B and R. They could make Grixis I guess he did like the finer things in life and that fit Demon and Devil Summoner way better but WOTC doesn't want annoy Sanderson so he is probably monoblack.
Hopefully Bolas is triumphant. Gideon dies trying to use The Blackblade, all the other walkers lose their sparks and Bolas ascends.

Game of Thrones is also a vastly different story than magic, Game of Thrones also gets very long in the tooth focusing on certain character plots and being "grim and gritty" to the point where it actively drags the plot to a screeching halt, and quite frankly we have had all of one real story arc's worth of plot since BFZ began.
Yes Gideon is kinda flat, but he spent the 5 years after he was introduced as a character being stuck in the Black Hole of Zendikar's plot, with a non-nonsensical appearance as a guest on Ravnica. Kamahl started the same way in Oddessy, and then he had 6 books worth of plot to actually develop. Gideon has had the focus on him to develop as a character for all of..Dominaria? where he had to share the spotlight with The Weatherlight crew.
The Obsession that this forum has had with "THE GATEWATCH MUST DIE" has been a thing since the Gatewatch has started, it has nothing to do with "them defying the odds" and you lot blaming them for being everything "wrong" with Magic's Plot.

Ultimately I think that WotC could make him whichever colors they felt like, but Sanderson did a pretty good job of fitting Davriel into the color pie as is.
UB works for him, even if it doesn't seem the most likely combination for a Demonologist simply due to the manner in which he goes about it. Unlike Liliana who apparently just signs whatever paper you put in front of her, Davriel specifically engineers contracts that are impossible for his demonic associates to fulfill. His deal with Crunchgnar for example, was for Crunch to ensure that Davriel lived to the age of (65 i think?) without dying, but Davriel has apparently already died once prior to crafting the contract, so Crunchgnar was literally incapable of fulfilling his end of the bargain and would never have been able to claim Davriel's soul.
The deals themselves are black, the methodology he applies to them is blue.

What could this mean?
This may sound crazy but this might be a hint that bolas might win again just like on amonkhet but this time stealing the sparks
But really I’m still anticipating he will loose though
But a big point out the Gideon glass on the chest breaks might mean He could die here
