In the enlarged pic on twitter, I guess it is more Ral's silhouette than anyone's. But the power sig is just weird/does not belong. (from what we've seen representing him thus far.)
Planeswalkers from many disparate realities will team up with the Gatewatch against Nicol Bolas and his unstoppable army who has claimed dominion over Ravnica. The book will feature well known characters, like Chandra, Gideon and Jace, alongside all new characters.
So it seems Bolas is going to be at least temporarily successful in taking over the world.
It seems that we are getting our own Infinity War here.
We even have a Doctor(ess) Strange now.
Also, it seems pretty probable now that we are getting two set-up sets in Guilds and Allegiance, and the final showdown in the third set.
And kudos to the people who suggested Kaya will play a role in Ravnica (as the possibly ideal candidate for taking care of the Obzedat.)

I'm guessing we won't see Kaya (card) until next set since it has the set up for the colors. I remember that the consultant who came in to help write her mentioned she had Kaya whole backstory and a future arc mapped out so I'm guessing this was it.
From bits of tweeters posts from people there, they mentioned Niv is busy with something and leaving Ral in charge, Bolas is using Ral and Vraska to take control of their guilds for him and Trostani isn't talking with themselves.
I like the Dimir being "good" this time around and it falls into character. They like knowing everything have controlling that info, a foreign invader could mess up their whole system. Best for them to keep the status quo since that is what they know best. That said as the color combo being paranoid they defiantly not going to be pleasant this set since they know something is up but not what.
I like the fall feel for Ravnica, in a good way it feel like a different plane with all the trees changing and the people of Ravnica wearing warmer looking clothing. Someone said Doug Beyer the set will have a noir feel with the natural darkness of fall to help set a darker feel to the set, which so far has been pretty cool looking.
EDIT: Also looks like Jace is spilling the beans about planeswalkers to Emmara.

Yep. Wonder who she is. Also... obligatory "UGH, ANOTHER human female planeswalker!"

Okay, seriously, spoilers much? (To WotC, not you.)
Whether is good or not isnt really my point...my point is according to MARO it was a last minute decision hence no Ugin card in Core 19 so my point is in no way should such a major retcon be a late story decision.

Creative members said in one of the streams that Ugin and Bolas where always going to be some kind of twins (spiritual, rival or biological), hence why Ugin, the Spirit Dragon ulitmate is a reflection of Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker ultimate. So its not really a huge retcon as more of them nailing down a wondering plot thread. Similar to talks on if Jaya being Luti was planned all along or was added in later on.

I'm not rooting for the gatewatch PWs in particular, but I can't wait for Bolas to get blown out and hopefully disappear from the Magic story for a considerable amount of time. I'm pretty sick of him being behind everything.
Meh I think the Bolas Arc is being rushed but yeah I am glad he is almost done. I do not like when one guy is behind everything especially when you got a story that jumps between multiple planets or planes. Granted I hope Bolas can at least do some permanent damage.
I’d love to see Dimir fight on the good side! Greg Weismann is known for creating villains with sass and depth, I look forward to a less whining Bolas... and Kaya who might end Orzhov?
Noir stuff to me says that you can't really trust anyone. The classic trope is a private detective getting a case from a woman who portrays herself as the victim, but was actually involved in the crime or trying to get something on her own.
It's a bit of a weird genre in my knowledge of what we have so far, but I guess "the Dimir are actually helping" and "what is Niv really doing" and questions like that contribute to that atmosphere.
Noir also tend to be set in darker urban areas with corrupt government (hence why the private detective is needed) and the main character will often have to deal with the police and the mob. Double agents/ characters having heel face turns/face heel turns and red herrings are all also common.
So with all the above Ravnica is a good setting for a light Noir theme.

I have seen someone else pointed this out, but another human female planeswalker?! I know humans are the most numerous race in the multiverse, but it doesn't seem to me that elves and goblins are so far behind... come on! Elves are on almost every plane (but Kamigawa and Innistrad) and we still have only one elven planeswalker... *shrugs*
Apparently GRN has loosely adopted a Film or City Noir theme.
I am unfamiliar with this genre. What should we expect?
Them to ruin all the good will they built up for Jace in Ixalan.
Edit : By the way I just want to restate that there is something on Ravnica Nicol Bolas desires greatly, hence the whole plan.
We know that Ravnica used to be a Plane that had frequent clashes between Planeswalkers and their armies.
We know that Azor set up his own Guild there, and created the Guildpact with an explicit part that prevented Planeswalkers from entering the plane, and then set up the maze to destroy the guild system entirely to prevent them from fighting.
We know that Nicol Bolas is cashing in all of his chips for this fight, and has been working towards this invasion for some time given that he has had Ral as an Agent. He Is also putting his biggest new toys on the line for this, both of which are one of a kind items of immense power if there were to be duplicated. (not like he doesn't have a master artificer to examine the things)
So there has to be something on Ravnica, a Maltease Macguffin that Nicol wants and that Guilds of Ravnica or the Next Set will reveal.

What makes it bad is Elves are basically humans in general physical appearance...pointy ears is the main difference.
Still wonder if this new walker will be cannon fodder.
Niv mizzit (or a dragon that resembles him) will fall
So probably ral over throwns niv is probably what happens
I thought about this too, and would make sense. If there was ever a block in which to throw away the prevalence of the return to the Status Quo, it’s Nicol Bolas meets Ravnican Guilds.
Strangely, I think their mood for Ravnica reflects growing hostilities and sociopolitical instability that is being felt nowadays.
We will all choose our guild, then deal with the fallout that comes when we put party, creed or identity above shared survival.
The Gatewatch will win. But it shall be a Pyrrhic victory.

And yet again, the Neo Blind Eternities seems to not be able to churn out a Human Female Planeswalker beyond Size-8.
Her power looks aesthetically neato tho, I give her that. But yeah, I can't help but feel that she's cannon fodder too.

I hope so, magic doesn't need discount ancient one.
I was struck by a thought. If these were comics (I'm thinking about them because of how the Gatewatch is much like the Avengers), this type of build-up and conflict would likely precede a reboot of characters/death of characters/start of new characters for a new set of comics. This storyline seems ripe for planeswalkers to die. I feel like this would be a decent vehicle to knock out some walkers we see all the time, and give us a bunch of new walkers to follow. Kind of taking up the mantle of the Gatewatch, in memoriam.
But, Wizards is also really into merchandising and love their main five walkers and Bolas. How likely is it that more than one long-term walker dies by the end of this story?
We know that Firemind's Research is a story spotlight card and if we look at the promo we might see why. I could be totally off, but it could be Bolas using his manipulations, like we saw in the M19 story to influence Niv, by acting like him talking to himself, tempting him.

It is DEFINITELY NOT Ral Zarek. It is a woman.

They so should've named this set Invasion 2.
