Here is your official Core 2019 Discussion thread! We know the set explores the rivalry between Ugin and Bolas, features the original (not Tarkir) elder dragons, and seems to hit a lot of different time periods.
I’m pretty sure the playmat art is a new Nicol Bolas creature card, set before his spark ignited! Note the orientation, the lack of the Gem of Becoming, and the Dominarian background.
The Onakke Ogre is an interesting addition, and likely means that the Chain Veil plotline connects to Bolas more deeply than we’ve previously suspected.
Vivien Reid is the green planeswalker for Core 2019. Bolas destroyed her world, Skalla
Tezzeret, Ajani, Liliana, and Sarkhan round out the planeswalkers for Core 2019.
Could it be possible that the 5 Elder Dragons be from Tarkir? Judging by the playmat in which Nicol is, I’m starting to believe that they are all from Tarkir

Mark Rosewater states they were talking about the five original elder dragons. Those five, we know, are from Dominaria.
Maybe the plot twist is that Ixalan and Torrezon aren't the only continents on the plane. Lian sounds kinda Asian.
I'm not sure it requires anything but asian analogues on Torrezon, but it's possible that Elenda stumbled across this vampire queen and it's how she became a vampire herself, or something.

I thought that there was no oficial confirmation that Nicol was from Dominaria, wasn’t previously stated he was from Dominia? Just never found the official statement that the 5 elders (Bolas and bros) where from dominaria
Incredible how creature Bolas is always better than planeswalker Bolas.
Not sure what you mean by this.
So the worlds we've seen in the set thus far are: Tarkir, Alara, Zendikar, Dominaria, Ravnica, Theros, Innistrad, Amonkhet, Kaladesh, Ixalan, Shandalar and whatever plane Skyscanner comes from.
I'm not sure it requires anything but asian analogues on Torrezon, but it's possible that Elenda stumbled across this vampire queen and it's how she became a vampire herself, or something.
And who vampirized Lian? Is it femmes fatales all the way down?

I mean that I much prefer the "bestial" appearance of Nicol Bolas when he was a creature to his "goblinesque" feature of his planeswalker form (also, why does a dragon need to wear armor?!)

I dunno what they give as description to those who do PW Nicol Bolas art but I've noticed that for some reason there are some artists that make the goblinesque look more prevalent... one is Magalli here.
The original Elder Dragons all get new creature cards? Rosewater did say they are the ones being referenced to. Plus a Colorless Pre Spark Ugin? I don't see any reason not to just full cycle the Elder Dragons.

He never said they'll get new creature cards. I really hope they do, but they didn't like printing multicolored cards in coresets in the past. They might have shifted from that stance, though.

Eh it is Anniversary Year so might as well break some rules. They probably cost too much to make a difference in Standard anyway. But maybe a certain Eldrazi and Demon will get competition for cheating into play for other formats.

I dunno maybe there is some sort of Elder Dragon Killing Sword out in the multiverse.
-Frame story with Yasova twin granddaughters was a bit odd but lets see how it pans out. Looks like this is set a few generations after Khanfall.
-One granddaughter shaman and gets a message from windfolk about the origins of Bolas and Ugin.
-Earliest point in the timeline the Ur-Dragon sends dragon eggs/comets? spawning the first dragons.
-Seven eggs hit Dominaria and we get the first batch of elders with Arcades Sabboth, Chromium Rhuell and Palladia-Mors born first, with Chromium noting more eggs where falling and they are "cousins" and I'm guessing leading to Vaevictis Asmadi.
-Two eggs don't survive. The sixth hatches into Merrevia Sal a female elder dragon and the last egg hatches into the twins Ugin and Nicol Bolas (retcon I'm not surprised they made but maybe Ugin being a native of Tarkir is about his becoming a spirit dragon? Is he Ugin Bolas now?).
-Bolas and Ugin see Merrevia killed by a group of hunters. Its noted the younger three siblings are weaker/smaller with Ugin and Bolas being the smallest.
-To note Dominaria already had been around for awhile before the elder dragons.
-We see the seed of Ugin and Bolas characters. Ugin being calmed transfixed with the beauty and order of Dominaria and Bolas being focused on hunting and being hunted. Also the set up of how even an elder dragon can be taken down with team work.
-Yasova does some nice blue style trickery and sneaks off to Ugins "tomb" to find out more.
“There are no weak Jews. I am descended from those who wrestle angels and kill giants. We were chosen by God. You were chosen by a pathetic little man who can't seem to grow a full mustache"

I actually was kinda hoping there wasn't going to be a bond between Bolas and Ugin before they became enemies, but its whatevs. Twins. Sorry to those who wanted Dragonsex.
Always kinda figured the dragons predated humans. Apparently not.
They did well in developing the different personalities of Bolas and Ugin, though.
With luck the events of this story set up a Return to Tarkir in the future, featuring a clan rebellion against the Dragonlords.
the mentioning of the Ur-Dragon made me immediately think of the primevals. Wondering where they tie into the whole Origin of dragons and how they relate to the elders.
another thing: Bolas learning about the power of teamwork is an interesting note. We obviously see that being setup with the Gatewatch now, but remember Bolas has a team on his side too. His agents have to this point mostly acted alone, but what are these guys capable of if/when they actively work as a unit?

I'd be surprised if Ugin gets the surname Bolas, as the other 3 don't share any names. Granted same egg could impact this though.
I'm surprised they didn't mention why Yasova assisted Nicol in the first place?
I get the aspects they're trying to portray of Nicol's personality, but I'm not sure I dig the born almost ready to kill thing. Definitely paints the story in a much more black/white tone from the start. Yes he's a predator, and yes dragons are violent in most dipictions...but how many natural creatures are born this aggressive? Over siblings/cousins none the less.
I think that Ugin being born on a different plane via the ur dragon the same way could have made sense. Cousins, sure. A second generation maybe. Twins just feels...cliche? Like they did such a slack job of building Ugin in the past 3-4 years he has to be connected to bolas to be legitimate. That's how I see it anyway.
I wouldn't be surprised if the ur dragon hailed from tarkir, and that's the reason Ugin ultimately went there.
I wonder if Bolas' story will lead to more info on the "leviathan planeswalker" he eats and leaves at Talon gate. I think if they go over that story in more detail we will find out it was actually an eldrazi
the mentioning of the Ur-Dragon made me immediately think of the primevals. Wondering where they tie into the whole Origin of dragons and how they relate to the elders.
From the Dominaria story podcast Kelly and Ethen *guess* (not fact but what creative is kinda thinking but might be changed in the future), the Promevals are the next "generation" of dragons right after the elders.

With elder dragons returning, are you curious about elder lore? I wrote about it earlier this year!

I bet Sarkhan and Vivian get recruited by Ajani and they too are brought to the upcoming Ravnican conflict with Bolas.
Vivian or Ajani could work well with the whole “go wide” theme of the Selesnyians while Sarkhan would probably make a great envoy to the Gruul
