Nice...still not a fan of random daughter though. And does imply that Resparked Teferi can cancel the normal aging process.
And again I am really wondering wtf Jodah is doing. Belzenlok wasn't relevant in the past unless they retcon him in so he shouldn't be all that powerful. Thus,I am still confused why the supposed Archmage Eternal who was always dragging Oldwalkers for incompetence and ignoring the little guys decided to do absolutely nothing with all the relevant Oldwalkers off the stage (death, off plane or desparked) while Belzenlok is out collecting dangerous artifacts and conquering the plane. It was Jodah's time to shine and he is going to need one heck of an excuse not to look like the plane's greatest hypocrite.
I really hope Jodah's been doing something to counter the Cabal. I feel he's grown used to doing things alone, as before Jhoira, the only beings as old as him were Walkers who he has issues with.
Jodah did that for a long while, after a few centuries he could have "retired" from dealing with "stupid apocalypses" as Dominaria rarely seemed to stay saved.
So Lyra was one of the original angels that came from Serra's realm. Still no idea how she relates to Reya.
Tiana says that Serra was lost when she healed Benalia. As far as I know such a thing never happened. Serra fled her realm and went to Ulgrotha and then to Dominaria and eventually died from a stab wound by a thief planeswalker.
I enjoyed today's story, Tiana is fun and I'm liking Arvad a lot too. The story does provide some explanation as to how an angel can just know how to work machines, which was nice.
I like these stories focusing on the non-planeswalker characters in the story. with some VERY notable exceptions, we Vorthoses have always said that the short stories about the mortals were more engaging and better written overall than the stories about the PWs. Giving some depth and personality to the new Weatherlight crew is the right call. can't wait to see what they do with Slimefoot.
Good side story to devople Tiana and Arvad characters more, I think Tiana is the cutest angel and I really like to see how Arvad storyline goes. Fun set up for Slimefoot too all the new characters are so charming. I hope we get big amount of stories now they have outside authors (since they would have more time to just write unlike creative and they already have drafts and outlines) since it lets us get stories like this.

That being said today’s story was excellent and was a nice change from the fast paced development of last week. I’m looking forward to Gideon, Ajani and Lilliana joining the rest of the crew.

I LOVE the message at the end of this. Welcome Home.
As a player and lore reader since tempest block, Dominaria certainly is my true home since the beginning of my days with Magic. Awesome.
I think this is just another example of received history not being the same as the "actual" events we have been told of.
Still feeling a Hanna connection more than Selenia with Tiana.
Fun cameos from Flametongue Kavu and Bogardan Phoenix, although phoenix is a bit of a weird choice since it didn't reincarnate. I guess it got a death counter from Arvad's shot or something. Too bad the Beasts of Bogardan didn't show up.
Damn was today's story good. Solid beginning to end. I love the sense of purpose and adventure it gives. Feels like a true fantasy story, and not all the desiccated war trash we've had. Kinda like how we all loved Jace and Vraska. There's a time and a place for conflict, which should be exciting, not exhausting and cumbersome. I actually felt some anxiety and concern for the characters when the Phoenix appeared. This is a sign that I'm at least invested in these people and their mission. I like where this arc is going. Arvad and Tiana's fates are really something I'm interested to see pan out.
EDIT: And I agree these non-PW stories are superior. I'm sick to death of Planeswalkers.
Wasn't the power stone powered by the collapsed Serra's Realm? Perhaps that's what attracted both Tiana and suppressed Arvad's condition. Since Tiana is like the only known guardian angel who was born to protect a machine, is it possible that she is the reincarnation of Hanna? The prayer took longer to gave birth to her, they said, so by chance villagers praying for an angel to protect machine combined Hanna's soul with Serra's power/prayer, and gave birth to Tiana.
And Slimefoot, cannot wait for that dark spot to grow.

You are correct about Serra being murdered by a planeswalker pretending to be a thief (and because she no longe wanted to live). The problem is according to 'Scourge' after the destruction of the Weatherlight Serra and her realm came back to life and Karona went after het to ask for help to protect Dominaria, but she refused because Korona reminded her of Urza.
Now they clearly retconned the part where the destruction of the Weatherlight caused the release of Serra's Realm, but we still have no idea if she is. actually dead.
Angels are being born by the power of prayers, which is very similar to how thing worket with the Church of Avacyn, the interesting thing to remember is that when Avacyn was trapped in the Hellvault the prayers stopped working, if the Church of Serra work in the same way maybe a part of Serra still lives.

The Serra Angel reprint's flavour text seems to indicate that that particular angel is a reincarnation of Serra. (At least partly, the second part might reference Radiant, though that would hardly work with reincarnation seeing as Serra and Radiant existed at the same time...)
I am not sure what to do with this information or even if I should take it at face value, but there it is.
Also, is it just me or does the benalish shield (which is also the set symbol) remind of the coalition symbol? Additionally the stained glass motif usually features multiple colours, as if it was supposed to be a callback to the coalition. Thoughts?

I did wonder about the Hanna connection too. It's possible there's some connection there. Maybe it took a little longer for Tiana to be born because Hanna died of the Phyrexian plague, so that connection was harder than usual to establish.
I like Arvad. Really making up for Crovax, who gave in to the curse.
I have no recollection of Serra's death as described in the story. How did she die to save Benalia?
Powerstones can mitigate/heal vampirism?
Is Tiana's knowledge of the Weatherlight a relic of reincarnation, or a download from the powerstone?
And also, how in Serra's name did Tiana reactivate the powerstone?!
Serra died as part of the Homelands backstory(yay 20-year-old comic book recollections!). After Feroz died, she left Ulgrotha out of grief and became a wanderer. At some point, another mage/planeswalker attacked her and she basically gave up during the duel and let him kill her. A passing traveler comforted her during her last moments and was inspired by what he saw during her duel to create the church/cathedral in her memory.
I like these stories focusing on the non-planeswalker characters in the story. with some VERY notable exceptions, we Vorthoses have always said that the short stories about the mortals were more engaging and better written overall than the stories about the PWs. Giving some depth and personality to the new Weatherlight crew is the right call. can't wait to see what they do with Slimefoot.
most "Vorthoses" think that way because the "Mortal" stories are often useless filler and when you have 12 short stories to get an entire plot done with focusing on one shot stories that don't affect the narrative is a terrible idea, mind you Planeswalkers are Mortal now so I don't know why you are using that as a distinction because the people who don't like Filler stories taking up time has nothing to do with PW vs Non-PW as Arlin's story was just as much a waste of time as Gitrog's
Unlike those stories today's story was actually useful because The Weatherlight is central to the story and it's crew is actually important, it helps that it was good too.
Am I the only one who thinks that Tiana..might actually be the reincarnation of the Weatherlight itself? When it was complete and before Gerrard did the Null Moon trick to try and kill Yawgmoth The Weatherlight had it's own personality and soul that Karn could talk to, that would explain a great deal.
I KNEW last week's story must have taken more than a month! Its nice to see the time skip confirmed in this story. And yeah, the more we see of Tiana the more I suspect she is the reincarnation of Hanna. It just makes so much sense; if Serran angels from here on out are supposed to be reincarnated (which was also not unprecidented) for her to be the reincarnation of the ship's previous engineer makes perfect sense. She obviously had an affinity for the ship even before she found out about the destruction of her assignment. Possibly even an affinity for Gerrard, if I read it correctly...
The one thing that confuses the issue is how much she seems eager to fight. Very Boros, but not very Hanna.
Loved this. Tiana is cuuuute. Her dream of being a battle angel is adorable. And ultimately, her character has a lot of personality. Despite the stark contrast, Lyra didn't read boring. Martha Wells illustrated Lyra well, as someone to behold, not just robotic.
Arvad is also pretty sweet. Wish his card had some Northern Paladin ability on it to reflect his benevolence.
And the short mentions of Tianas night vision and her constant urge to defend and fight was an effective way to give some angelic perspective.

I think it's worth reminding that Jace and Vraska were both planeswalkers. Planeswalkers can be written well, as that particular Ixalan subplot proved IMO. Also I'm not sure what you mean by "there's a time and a place for conflict". Conflict (in-universe) often isn't something that's scheduled by all participants. It just happens, whether those involved want it to or not. If you mean that depicting conflict/war should be tempered with more light-hearted content to prevent reader fatigue, then I agree with that. That was a reason for Ixalan block being the way it was after the ongoing tragedy that was Amonkhet block, IIRC.
That said, I liked this story. Tiana and Arvad are both interesting and I have high hopes for them. Tiana possibly being the reincarnation of Hanna (or maybe even the original Weatherlight, as ryuplaneswalker speculated) is intriguing, but the source of her artifice talent might be something we don't expect.

Tiana's backstory is interesting. Turns out that "Serra" can infuse all types of knowledge into the angels.
