Any information on Slinn Voda, The Rising Deep? I figured she was just a throwback to the huge, overcosted 10/10 leviathan, but then I was looking at the Dominaria map and saw that there's an expanse of water labeled "Voda Sea" just south of Orvada. I'm assuming there's a connection, but what information do we have about this legendary leviathan?

Apparantly, she is named for that very sea and she carriea an merfolk city on her back. According to her bio.
I liked Torgaar's bio. Reminded me of Dauthi Trappers flavortext
So according to her bio card Niambi was born a full decade after the events of Time Spiral. Plenty of time for Teferi to realize he doesnt have the power to being back Zhalfir and meet a nice Femerefan woman who is actually emotionally available to him instead of pineing over Jhoira. And that would have been a perfectly good ending for him. Its so rare that the hero gets a happily ever after these days. So can the *****ing stop?
I haven't gotten around to fully reading the latest story, and I might try to find an audio version of it on Youtube to save time, but I did read bits and pieces and I'm OK with Teferi's character based on that.

Sure if you consider that a happy ending. I don't so it changes nothing. I could care less about Teferi settling down with some no name and having a normal kid while Zhalfir is lost to the void. I also don't get why one would want to have a kid that they know will die before them.

Since when did having a kid require that that kid live longer than you? I do wish we got to know the mother so that we can have a better understanding of how Teferi reached the decision to settle down here.
Also I get the distinct impression that you're more interested in Teferi being a miserable wreck over Zhalfir and not getting the girl (which he easily could have been) than his actually attempting to deal with it in a healthy manner like he presumably has here.

I assume most parents don't want to watch their kid die but I am not a parent so what do I know. Yes hence why I refer to wife as conciliation prize, she is not a real character. We know nothing about her, heck we don't even know her name in the actual storyline.
Well yes. Its not a Good Ending for me if a character fails romantically and fails at his major objective. One fine...both just no. Add to that power wise he is a shell of himself and didn't even get his own spark back and its even worse.
Now obviously that will change since he gets resparked but if Teferi story ended with Weak Powers, No Zhalfir, Random Wife, and Normal Kid...yeah I would not call that a good ending that be a bad ending in my book.

That's not what I mean. I know why you said that, but loneliness can do funny things to people, and emotions can mess up our ability to think about the long term consequences of our decisions.
IIRC, Nahiri had a husband/partner/whatever despite knowing that she'd be immortal and the partner was not. I'm only just speculating here, but perhaps despite knowing he was going to live longer than his offspring if he had any, Teferi decided to just say "**** it" and threw caution to the wind.
I think Nahiri was just bored unlike most other Oldwalkers she was stuck on a plane where there was no one on her level and she couldn't leave, she wanted some community.
I am not sure she would have had a kid if she got off plane or if she was on a plane like Dominaria, Ravnica or Innistrad were should could interact with some fellow long lived creatures and immortals.
Can we also acknowledge that the writers behind MTG lore are not the strongest when it comes to character and motivations? Sure, it would be AMAZING if they actually tried to explore the conflicts of romance and immortality and true loss and what happiness really means, at an existential level, but at the end of the day this is a story to sell a card game that is grounded on pretty old tropes.

Sure but this is self inflicted trauma. What Teferi fan said you know what I want to see Teferi marrying some random character we never met offscreen and having a daughter who is probably going to be pretty irrelevant in the storyline (and she should stay offscreen not because I dislike her but because she has got motivational death written all over her) that is what I want WOTC.
My point is more WOTC added a lot of stuff to this storyline that could have easily been streamlined. Did we really need about 4 issues of Jhoira putting together a team that is still missing Jaya and Karn? Like really would anyone have complained if Teferi, Karn and Jhoira opened this story all ready together shooting the breeze at Tolaria West?
I mean we seem to have some interesting things going around that we won't see any of cause lack of time. Various Magic Academies, Keldon Civil War, Dragon Tribe Civil War, Benalish Politics, Elvish Politics, etc.
1) I don't like to assume that people know things so; you know that having a kid isn't always planned right? Maybe Teferi met this Subira, got it on with her and, guess what that's how babies are made.
2) Also on the note of kids: No of course no parent is keen on the idea of outliving their children. But maybe he wanted to be a father. Maybe he felt like raising a child would be a good way to make up for, even in some small capacity, his past screw ups. And even though he may outlive her thats not reason to not have a child or involve oneself romantically.
3) I also hate the fact that I have to repeat this over and over but; if you dislike a story over your personal opinion of how it should have gone then stop reading and go write your own.
4) Unfortunately, because of the way they continue to limit the story, they don't have time to develop or talk about every character. Niambi isn't relevant to the story bit that doesn't need to make her. Also she's not normal she's a cleric and healer.
Honestly, Autumn, I'd hate to read a story by you because it sounds like it would be miserable and depressing. Nothing against you personally but I'm glad you're opinion of what Teferi should have done wasnt what they went with.
“There are no weak Jews. I am descended from those who wrestle angels and kill giants. We were chosen by God. You were chosen by a pathetic little man who can't seem to grow a full mustache"
"You can tell how dumb someone is by how they use Mary Sue"
Imagine all characters in the story now suddenly get a family and live happily with them ever after. And that's all, they just live happily, without any problems, nothing happen until the end of their life.
Sounds boring.
I can understand you're annoyed but the misfortunes of heroes, their problems and their dissatisfactions are the things who are supposed to raise our interest. And then after we're supposed to follow the attempts to solve problems.
At least, in a story with miserable and depressing stuff, things happens.
Like Liliana story for example
Teferi and Liliana even have a little talk about errors of the past, they were both miserable and into depressing stuff and that's why they can eventually become interesting characters to us.
I don't mean that it should always be that way or even that all stories should have a happy ending. Without conflict there is no story to tell. But for Teferi, who has been through so much, if they had just given us a mention of him as having settled down and had a family in Femeref and isn't really interested in adventuring anymore because look at all the misery it brought him before, would be a fine ending for him. I mean for ****s sake the dude spent how long literally on fire? Because Urza is a dick Teferi tried to protect the homes of himself and one of his best friends, then because of how much he cared for Jhoira he brought her home back first and was unable to bring his back. The dude has been through enough and learning to accept failure, and understand what is within your scope of influence is an important lesson that, as a magical prodigy, Teferi needed to learn.
Autumn I'm not saying you shouldn't voice your opinion but when all you do is complain about the way you personally think the story should have been, and accuse the author of not liking a particular character just because you disagree with the direction taken with that character you come off as impudent and entitled. Stating a subjective opinion on Magic story as though it is fact is, unfortunately, sort of a signature move of this forum. And I find myself repeating these sentiments over and over. Let the authors tell the story they want to tell, wait for the end to actually pass judgement on the story as a whole. Be patient.
The little bits about the legendary creatures was a great idea. Traxos is definitely going into my Mishra deck now, where Clockwork Dragon had been the placeholder for a decent dragon engine. Nice!
I thought for sure Valduk was a descendant of Latulla because of the similarities in their poses in their respective art, but there's no mention of that in the tidbit. Alas!
I will be very upset if we don't get some exposition on the woman Teferi fell in love with. She must have really been something. And at the end of Time Spiral block, Teferi is struggling both with the loss of Zhalfir, and with experiencing firsthand what it's like for mortals to be manipulated by godlike walkers. He matures a second time, and it's obvious that there's nothing really between him and Jhoira at the end of the story, as far as romance. She's happy to see he's becoming a better person, he's seeing that he has some things to still atone for. So I really liked seeing him again (but come on, give him the beard and long hair!) and seeing how he's adapted so well to his new life. But I want to learn more about his family!
Also, like others pointed out last week, kind of cold of Jhoira to have (somehow) Teferi's spark but consider it as a possible power source for the Weatherlight instead of a possible way to save Zhalfir, or at least a possible way to make Teferi happy or something. Just seemed out of character.
Shalai and Lyra's bios are cool. So is the Order of Dawn separate from the New Order of Serra? Shalai being around to fight with Llanowar against Phyrexia is awesome. Though I find it funny that only the "oldest" elves remember her. That makes it seem like the invasion was thousands of years ago, being that elves live really long and all.
Teshar's bio also intrigues me. There's another order within the order of Serra, lol. And they believe the "Ancestor" from Otaria and Serra are one and the same. Who could that be.

The lifespan of elves varies between media and possibly planes, some live hundreds of years while others live thousands of years. If only the oldest remember the invasion which was three hundred years ago, then these elves obviously live hundreds not thousands of years
To be fair they over rely on using centuries in the flavor text and bios when really they should be using millennium more often. Granted it could simply tell us that there was a whole lot of death for the Elves as well. I suppose we didn't spend much time around Elves on Dominaria besides Freyalise.
We have a different definition of good ending for heroes. Failing Romantically and Professionally and then settling down to have a normal family is a failure in my book and not a good happy ending to celebrate. Generally, when a Hero learns a lesson they act on that lesson. They don't learn the lesson then have no ability to act on it.
Really solid story today. I wish we had a whole book dedicated to Teferi for this set, in this style. Solidified him as my favorite current planeswalker (or rather character, until he takes his spark back).
That first scene with the ghost of Zhalfir was pretty good, and still heartbreaking.
Also, didn't expect that of Kwende. Caught me off-guard. Does this mean Kwende's card is 50+ years ago?

The bios are on the Magic twitter account (and also on Facebook, I believe).
You know the answer to that question.

Basically Teferi's backstory between Mending and now.
Feels like the old books.
Let this great clan rest in peace (2001-2011)
