Based on the title in the book, it's a Crumbling Necropolis reprint
I would be so pissed if it is
Why? From the moment they mentioned Necropolis, of course there was going to be a Crumbling Necropolis reprint in a Bolas-themed set. Doesn't mean there won't be other cards based on it.
I really hope that bit about how he beats Jace is one of the spots where the art book and the actual story are incongruous. The idea that Jace would accept an invitation into the mind of Bolas, from Bolas himself, strains credulity almost as much as Gids vs. Ulamog. I'm sure lota of people here are happy to see it but it's just so out of character. This isn't the first time Jace has run up against Bolas. He knows better. WotC sometimes you really let your faithful down. Guess I wasnt found worthy.
Baited isn't the same thing as 'accepted an invitation'. And Jace's last confrontation with Bolas was pre-Conflux.
I know it's logical, but it sounds like it should be a legendary artifact according to the story and not an uncommon tap land that's been reprinted quite a bit.

Its still weak. I get that its harder to write a character thats smarter than you but I find it hard to believe that Jace could be baited into trying to read Bolas' mind. How long ago it was shouldnt matter. He should have known better. Its just bad. Just because he's a mind mage doesn't mean that the only stories that can be written about him are ones about him losing and recovering his memories.
So Bolas utterly thrashes all the good guys, and yet they all escape relatively unscathed.
"So, Batman and Robin have escaped my Killimijig. It matters not! Not even the Dynamic Duo can stop me now!"
I won't forgive them unless Jace stays permanently wrecked. The stakes are high for Bontu and Hazoret, so they should be high for the recurring characters too. How does Gideon always get to keep all his limbs?
I'm still not a 100% convinced that the army was the only thing he wanted. Why the whole blood river, hour cycle thing, if he only wanted the army, he could have just came and claim them, why the whole spell cycle?
Or even better, he could have just claimed them whenever he wanted, straight out of the necropolis, without anyone ever noticing it and let the cycle endlessly repeat until the world dies.

Tezz only gets mention in passing due to his involvement in Kaladesh. The Planar Bridge being destroyed and Tezzeret being stopped is mentioned as "no hindrance to Bolas's plan." No mention of Ashiok, sorry.
From what I can tell, having legions of pseudo-indestructibly warriors with no free will but amazing combat prowess, tactical knowledge and flexibility is quiet the force to have.
The exact line from the book is "Appealing to Jace's insatiable desire for knowledge, Bolas tempted him with the change to peer into his mind and see the vast schemes he had in motion. Jace took the bait and Bolas crushed him mind." You might think Jace is smart enough to not do something so dumb, but I think he could. He has always been the one to want to know what is happening and he might think his previous encounter with Emmrakul might of had him prepared for whatever Bolas could throw at him. This has been the theme of the set after all, the Gatewatch thinking they are a match for Bolas.
Yeah, they all live, but I dunno is unscathed is the word. We know Wizards just said they aren't gonna be as Gatewatch focused as they were, so this might be there way of letting them sit on the sidelines for a bit. We know using the Veil has a huge impact on Lili and it doesn't go into too much details about the damage, but Chandra and Gids are almost crushed to death, so I don't think they only got some cuts and scraps.
It mentions that Bontu wants to be at the God-Pharaoh's side no matter what, even if she has to kill the others Gods to get to that spot. It is likely that she thought offering Hazoret, the supposed favourite would get her that spot. But Bolas doesn't share and it is likely he killed her for just thinking she would have any power with him around.

:/ I guess That's slightly more acceptable but still pretty crappy. I was all down with Bolas, may he find me worthy, but now I'm hoping that he screwed up and once Jace recovers his memories of this he realizes he actually got a glimpse of Bolas' plans and now they can ACTUALLY get the jump on him. Just because I'm disappointed with this turn of events. Its so boring. :\
The book actually offers a little bit of info on Bolas releasing the Eldrazi
"Bolas hoped that the presence of such a terrible interplanar threat would mobilize Planeswalkers to battle them and he could profit from seeing how a group of Planeswalkers would handle such a threat. Events on Zendikar didn't unfold as he had planned, since the appearance of Ugin, whom he had though dead. But the events on Zendikar and Innistarad, where one of the Titans had made it's way to-provided Bolas with a lovely gift: a little band of Planeswalkers he could manipulate."
As for the rest, Bolas is a massive jerk. He got what he wanted from Amonkhet (the army.) and he was done with it. Also he wants to show them Gatewatch his power, he wants to break their spirits.

That implies Bolas plans are starting to bare fruit since it looks like he was looking at what might happen when he puts his plans into full motion. Scary to also know he already knows about Ugin being alive as well.

“There are no weak Jews. I am descended from those who wrestle angels and kill giants. We were chosen by God. You were chosen by a pathetic little man who can't seem to grow a full mustache"
"You can tell how dumb someone is by how they use Mary Sue"
It really makes no sense to act as he does if all he wants is the army.
1: surely there is more lazotep. He can't have just run out of it after only 60 years, only 45 or fewer of which would have been spent mining it
2: nobody believes samut. Nobody believes the gatewatch. There is zero reason to close down the factory, and keeping it running would be an excellent backup if his army is defeated or needs to be reinforced.
3: it is just so wasteful. You have this entire plane worth of resources. Taking a very small part of it and then destroying it is, well, very unintelligent on bolas's part. Nobody believes the heretics. He could so easily keep farming this plane.
This plan doesn't sound very bolas. It sounds very, well, stupid. No matter his ultimate gameplan, destroying your own source of minions and cutting yourself off from suicidal suicidally loyal fanatics just seems really bad planning on bolas's part.
Very much more Austin Powers badguy than multiverse's greatest villain.

I think you're misunderstanding. Pre-Conflux isn't about time scale, but about Bolas' power level. He's still thinking it's the Bolas he faced before Bolas absorbed the Maelstrom, where Bolas had to distract Jace to get past his defenses.
I'm still not a 100% convinced that the army was the only thing he wanted. Why the whole blood river, hour cycle thing, if he only wanted the army, he could have just came and claim them, why the whole spell cycle?

This is where the red of Bolas' colors comes into play. He can't resist this kind of moment. He could have just taken the Maelstrom's power and left Alara, but he wanted to try and blow it up instead.
So Bolas utterly thrashes all the good guys, and yet they all escape relatively unscathed.

You have a weird definition unscathed. We have no idea what the long-term ramifications are, but already the goal posts have shifted from 'The Gatewatch never loses' to 'The Gatewatch never loses enough'.
I enjoy the fact that the collective poopers of the jacetice league got destroyed by Bolas. I hate this avengers ripoff crap.
Are people still on 'Jacetus League'? I thought that died out late last year. I mean, at least be clever about it. Planar Rangers. Gideons of the Galaxy. There are so many ways you could be flippant about them without being trite. There's plenty of valid criticisms of the Gatewatch without resorting to this kind of argument.
All I can think of is that Nicol Bolas's themed archenemy deck is secretly a Vintage deck and all of the Gatewatch decks are Standard decks. As he just like beats each of them with the greatest of ease. Then again, I would expect as much out of Nicol Bolas's arcane might given the fact that that hes at least 20,000 years old and probably existed before Amonkhet, the plane itself, was even a concept.
Also I really hope that artwork for Reign of the God-Pharaoh is on a good card as it looks so majestic. Also Razaketh's Invocation and Razaketh's Sacrifice seem intriguing for the artwork.
He is mourning her death. Gideon was fighting next to Oketra when she was killed. Hazoret is the only surviving original God. For Jace, it says that Bolas crushed his mind, likely overwhelming it with his own power. Jace is probably a little brain scrambled now, most likely missing some memories.
