A story that focuses on our walkers for the block and we get more development for Huatli and finally get to see Angrath personality;
-The warrior poet is the warrior in charge of learning and passing down the history and stories of the sun empire.
-Huatli wasn't so sure she wanted to be the warrior poet
-We see very well Huatli and Angraths colors. Both are temperamental and emotional R, while Huatli has a self of duty to her people W, Angrath believes in personal freedom BR.
-14 YEARS ANGRATH HAS BEEN TRAPPED stop it with my heart wizards!
-Angrath is a delightful ass, love to read about him but won't ever want to join his party
-Angrath slapping some perspective on Huatli is nice.
-Kaldheim has been getting a lot of attention for a plane we yet to visit
-Elenda is indeed the "bat god" from how legends can be changed like a game of telephone
-Elenda gave the gift of vampirism to humble her people and seems pretty upset they became invaders.
-Jace and Vraska reach Azor. Things are going to get interesting next week.
-Ugin was the one to send Jace to Ixalan!
“There are no weak Jews. I am descended from those who wrestle angels and kill giants. We were chosen by God. You were chosen by a pathetic little man who can't seem to grow a full mustache"
"You can tell how dumb someone is by how they use Mary Sue"
Huh. Could it be that Ugin did the same thing to Azor that he did with Nahiri? Aka, bound a threat to a plane and left someone else to keep watch while he remained free to roam the multiverse?
Jace solves a lock made by Azor in less than a minute. What.
Ixalan feels more and more like Zendikar.
Angrath did not sound right here. You dont ask for help from a total stranger and then keep antagonizing and insulting them. Its not practical.
Huatli keeps being a bore. Also what kind of 8year old says I wanna see the other side of the sun...

It pretty bull headed if you ask me.
Puns aside when have we ever seen a BR character acting practical or tactful? At the end he basically breaks the truce since he got mad at Huatli for talking to Elenda.

- So UGIN is the one that sent Jace to Ixalan with his "tripwire" more or less. So basically, the guy is prepared to banish Jace to a world forever to keep his existence a secret from Bolas. I'm sure big picture and all, but Ugin's kinda a jerk (then again, what do you expect from oldwalkers?)
- Saint Elenda is displeased. Uh oh.
- KALDHEIM! Is Ahngrath from there, or did he just decide to use it as an example for Huatli?
- Jace has kinda taken a level in badass this story. "Oh, hai Azor. I'm you're Living Guildpact. Don't **** with me."

The look on Azor’s face when he realised the Guildpact ‘failsafe’ is not on Ravnica ... somehow I think that is not supposed to happen Eye of Ugin style.
There are four oldwalkers mentioned in this story and every single one of them is a colossal ass.
Let's hold off judgment on Azor for more than two lines of dialogue. But I'm not optimistic.
But yes, Ugin, Bolas, and Lili are all asses. So's Sorin.
Oddly enough, the least assy oldwalker in the stories as of late has been Nahiri. I mean, sure she tried to Emrakul an entire freaking plane, but outside of her feud with Sorin, she seems reasonably nice.

Is Karn literally the only still-living oldwalker we have that may actually not be a **** at this point?

"Reasonably nice"? She doomed an entire plane because of her feud with one single guy. To me now she is totally in the "crazy oldwalker" camp.

Well, Karn did pick up his original spark from Urza and Glacian, both of whom were asses. (I'm still firmly Glacian -> Urza -> Karn spark-passing) Maybe some ass passed on as well. He also ditched Mirrodin and didn't stay to fight to the bitter end against New Phyrexia, so to Mirrodin survivors he may be an ass.
I figure super-longevity is bound to disconnect someone from the things that matter to the briefly flickering flames that are mortals. How many of us care about the stupid fights little kids have? We're above all that.
Azor, though, according to the things we've seen, went around the multiverse bringing law and order (dun dun). Law and order is usually meant to promote and preserve peace. Since he wasn't bound to a plane, is there an 'ass' rationale to peacekeeping on other planes? How does it benefit him? It's hard for me to see Azor in a negative or pompous light so far, and we haven't seen enough of or heard enough from him to see what his motives are/were.
Also, continuing from Orzhov's line of conversation, what exactly are the odds that Angrath is from Kaldheim?
It could be just a random plane he picked to demonstrate that other planes exist to Huatli, but maybe not.
And I guess based on his line about his daughters drinking the Emperor's blood with glee, being aggressive and violent is just natural to him (because Minotaur). It was just exacerbated by his being trapped on Ixalan.
Angrath (rude, incorrigible, frustrating Angrath) was going to get there before she did.

All I'm saying is "I'm gonna read the gorgon's mind and immediately needle her about her PTSD" is not the friendliest version of hello.
I can’t really blame him for reading the mind of someone who broke into his sanctum and using intimidation tactics on the intruder. If someone broke into my home to steal my most valued possession I wouldn’t treat them very kindly.

"Reasonably nice"? She doomed an entire plane because of her feud with one single guy. To me now she is totally in the "crazy oldwalker" camp.
I love the story today. Angrath continues to impress.
Angrath reached ahead and pulled the stalk of a massive flower to one side to let Huatli pass through underneath.
I like how Angrath benefits others by being bluntly practical. He didn't have to go through the education if he truly despised Huatli, though it's probably because Huatli is a PW like him, he sees her potential, or perhaps he sees Huatli at the age of what his daughters must be now and attempted his long hidden fatherhood. Can't wait to see the daughters go violent like daddy's girls.
I don't think Angrath is from Keldheim, since it's a plane modeled after viking mythology and minotaurs do not exist in such, unless there's something I don't know about. Or, perhaps Angrath isn't a "minotaur" (per se) by his plane's standard? He could be a demon instead of a mortal.
Is it just me, or is Saint Elenda a reference to Jesus? Jesus taught his people his lecture, left and promised return, and many of his followers to this day perverted what he had taught for pride and greed. A comic strip I saw years past argued that politicians and rich people today would call Jesus a "Middle East immigrant terrorist socialist" if he ever returned, and I believe Elenda might received the same treatment.
Jace's remenicence of his past was touching, fact that he remembered how much his mentor had educated him, how Liliana had manipulated him, and how Vraska promised defending him, would only help his growth. His stand off against Azor was also delightful. (and whatever Alhamarret's fault, he didn't pull back on the education)
And Ugin, did he send Jace here to protect himself from Bolas, or perhaps he knew Azor holds certain key to toppling Bolas? Perhaps both. Old walkers probably knew each other well and Azor coming to Ixalan without leaving likely gave Bolas hint that something is wrong, and his spies probably failed to return. Bolas wouldn't have known Azor is no longer a PW, best he could guess is that Azor shielded Ixalan with "something".
My only complaint about this story is how swiftly Elenda and Azor appeared and how conveniently the characters found out about their identity, but this is not a book so it's understandable.
Is Karn literally the only still-living oldwalker we have that may actually not be a **** at this point?
Probably :-(
Teferi lost his spark but is considered a living old walker, per se, just not as old as Urza's era. Hm, I guess you're right about Karn being the only nice gramp alive, but eternity of life could do that to people, especially many of these old walkers weren't human to begin with.
Just as Wizards occasionally trolls us regarding the future, it is my suspicion that even if Kaldheim isn’t the setting for fall 2018, it’s likely that they are working or had been working on it recently enough so as to give us a tease.
Vryn is another possibility, but that means we'd be seeing another Jace card again, so I doubt it. He's grown up quite a bit, and much more likable, but repetitiveness is bane for a product.
Also, continuing from Orzhov's line of conversation, what exactly are the odds that Angrath is from Kaldheim?

I don't know about you guys, but I ship it.
+1 on that ship. Also Kaldheim (at least the location in Kaldheim they tried to planeswalk to) seems like a frozen wasteland, the perfect place for a guy who is literally on fire.
On another note, GW characters tend to be the most ignorant ones, maybe the reason Huatli changed from boros to selesnya is because she is starting to realize that her way of life screams ignorance?

I like how their starting to make Huatli question her way of life, at least to extent. There's finally some character growth. Also, I predict she'll planeswalk away at the end of the story in search of the "golden city(kaladesh)" she actually saw in her vision.
Edit: Would she make a good fit for Tamiyo's story circle?
I hope we get to meet Nancy Beleren (or whatever Jace's mom's name turns out to be).
The thing from the story that I'm stuck on is the reason behind Ugin sending Jace to Ixalan. Is it coincidence that it is where Bolas sent Vraska? Could Ugin be trying to cover his own tracks in case Jace ran into Bolas? Does Ugin know something specific that Jace doesn't? This mystery is more intriguing than Shadows over Innistrad/Eldritch Moon, probably because the twist in the latter was obvious. I still like where the story is going because it isn't totally predictable.
Oddly enough, the least assy oldwalker in the stories as of late has been Nahiri. I mean, sure she tried to Emrakul an entire freaking plane, but outside of her feud with Sorin, she seems reasonably nice.
"Reasonably nice"? She doomed an entire plane because of her feud with one single guy. To me now she is totally in the "crazy oldwalker" camp.
I very clearly said "outside of that"
Yes but it's a very big thing to set aside...you can be the best person in the world, but after genocide it's hard to still think of you as good. Her previous self was surely relatable, I suppose when you live long enough (and pass a lot of time imprisoned) you can became not that sane, like a lot of oldwalkers demonstrate.
Sorin too didn't seem so bad...he killed some people for feeding, never felt particulary guilty for something, but it was in a gray moral area and quite a rational dude. Then they changed the character because the change was needed for the story (I suppose) and he trow the rationale in the bin. Of course he was quite an egoistical individual. "My plane first, and then the others". However understandable.
Maybe Jaya also is a good Oldwalker alive aside Karn and the sparkless Teferi? Ugin to me seemed worst than Sorin for example. And like I said I don't have much hope for Azor either.
Other oldwalkers still alive that are not Bolas, Lily, Ob, or the others aforementioned?

According to the story, the emperor commented that Huatli lacks the “nurturing aspect of the sun”, which is green, and developers originally intended her to be a Naya PW, so her new card symbolizes her growth.
Instead of describing Huatli as ignorant, understand that she is a PW who just woke up from her potential, who previously received no education aside from that of the empire despite her curiosity. She will grow, and she will be a true historian like Tamiyo in the future, perhaps part of her story circle.
