Right, and especially for someone as important as Azor. I honestly never believed that we'd see him introduced back into the story at all, to be honest.

I think that he'll get it back at the end of this set's story, though it may be something that is shown only in the actual stories themselves and not on the cards. I have a feeling that he would have gotten a planeswalker card in this set if not for external reasons, which is why had him arbitrarily lose his spark offscreen only to regain it. A GW walker did work better for color balance here than a WU one would, and if Ravnica is going to be the setting for the next fall and winter sets (which it very likely will), then they might have done this too avoid putting two WU walkers to close to each other. It's especially relevant if the Azorius appears in the first set rather than the second, since that would be only three sets away from Rivals. Vraska's PW card at least came one set earlier than Azor's hypothetically would have, and her next appearance might be one set later, depending on how they distribute the guilds between two sets this time around. A four or five set gap between planeswalkers of the same color identity is pretty normal, but three sets is definitely not optimal.
So here's what I'm predicting: Jace and Vraska find Azor. They tell Azor about how the original Guildpact was broken, how Jace became the the Living Guildpact, and how he's been doing an absolutely awful job. Azor takes his own spark out of the Immortal Sun and planeswalks away to Ravnica to clean up Jace's mess. Then Jace wipes Vraska's mind at her request and leaves. Vraska calls in Tezzeret, who is now able to take the Immortal Sun easily with Azor gone. Vraska goes to Bolas's meditation plane to claim her reward. Jace most likely goes to Dominaria since he now remembers that being where he is supposed to meet the Gatewatch. At the same time, Angrath and Huatli realize that the barrier is down. Angrath returns home immediately, while Huatli has to decide if she wants to continue serving the Sun Empire or leave Ixalan to explore the multiverse.
The Dominaria story will focus on at least some of the Gatewatch reuniting (probably Jace, Liliana, and Ajani, but possibly others as well) and also recruiting new members like Karn. After Dominaria and the core set, we'll return to Ravnica for two sets. Azor takes over as Living Guildpact (or, alternatively, gets rid of the position entirely and rewrites the Guildpact so that it is once again a document rather than an actual person). Vraska takes leadership of the Golgari, and will most likely have an encounter with Jace in which her memories that were "sealed away" are restored (possibly resulting in her taking an oath). Ral Zarek continues working on behalf of Bolas and will likely be the main antagonist. I don't think Dominaria or Ravnica will be the sets where Bolas uses the planar portal/eternal army/Immortal Sun for a full-scale invasion. It's too soon after Amonkhet, and there's a lot of other things going on in those sets - both mechanically and in the story - that there wouldn't be room for if everything was focused on another apocalypse caused by Bolas and his eternals.
Wow, I am coming too late to say "I have been telling you it has something to do with Azor since the VERY FIRST TIME I SAW IXALAN'S BINDING" ¨
Well, better late than never to beat my own drum, I think
Anyway, on topic:
I can hardly believe that Wizards would reintroduce a character like friggin' AZOR just to say "oh, sorry, he is a creature now and he can never leave Ixalan". So I am very curious how this will be played out.
And since there ARE DFCs...what about Origins-style transform walker? Wild speculation, yeah, but who knows.
Azor bettors win, Ugin bettors lose, and the shooter is retired. It's a good thing I don't bet money on MTG story spoilers; Ixalan would have wiped out all my winnings from Amonkhet.

I was on the fence, but I was hoping it'd be Azor for several reasons.
I agree that he will get his spark back. It doesn't make sense to make this character be Azor, a character referenced on another plane, then not have him play a role in the next time that plane shows up.
If you wondered how that metal-handed b@stard took something as big as the Immortal Sun away, here is the answer. Seems that he is really a walking Planar Bridge now :/
Some spoiler about the factions when they reach the golden city from the art book;
Kumena gets to the city first and takes control of the three fold sun temple where the Immortal Sun is set into the floor. He calls a huge storm to drive the other factions back but in the end loses control of the temple. The Dusk Legion then takes control and summons a darkness over the city. They go a bit nuts with the power and try to find Elenda,(who from the card they find in her tomb). However by this time the elder dinosaurs are full loose and Huatli is able to harness the powers of one of the elders so the Sun Empire is able to take control of the city. Finally many captains of the Brazen Coalition show up somewhat team up to take the city. Angrath is one of the captains fighting for control (likely to try to planeswalk away).)
We also got two small stories of a vampire teaming up with a Sun Empire warrior and a vampire teaming up with a pirate. Unknown if it play into the storyline but bot where refreshing in their own ways.

sorry if this is the wrong discussion, but after seeing Silent Gravestone, i have a big question: who is the Grim Captain? Have they said something about him/her?
Necromancy isn't something seen on Ixalan, right?
EDIT: well, except for the vampires if you count them. But i mean, reanimating corpses
The way I see it, there are two possibilities: either the Grim Captain is the a literal pirate captain who uses necromancy (presumably the human in the art of Grim Captain's Call) or it's just a euphemism for death on Ixalan, similar to the Grim Reaper. The former would make sense for a legendary creature; the latter would not. But even if the Grim Captain is an actual person, we won't be seeing a legendary creature card in this set, on account of all the rare and mythic spots being spoken for. However, it could be a possibility for a future Commander set or Return to Ixalan, especially since I've been seeing a lot of people saying that they want to see such a card (and the fact that pirates are in desperate need of a better Commander).
Azor and other PWs haven't left Ixalan after the Sun, how did Bolas know what to get? He might know it's related to Azor since he tracks everyone, then how could he possibly expect Vraska to defeat Azor to steal that whatever object? Or was he expecting Vraska to distract Azor while Tezz picks it up with the gate?
Jace's presence on Ixalan is purely accidental, therefore not part of Bolas's plan. Azor would not let Tezz take the Sun so freely unless he takes the spark back and left a husk. Should he and Jace returns to Ravnica, Bolas would know the Sun is worthless.

So now Bolas has the Eternal army, the Planar Bridge (in Tezzeret's arm) and the Immortal Sun.
I guess the final piece to this Rube Goldberg machine of a scheme is whatever it is Ral is working on for Bolas.
One would assume Bolas wants Project Lightning Bug, or, at the very least, already has access to it given the ease with which he manages to track down planeswalkers.
Yeah, where's the f****** story??? Been waiting for months!
They need to spoil more of the story moments so we know they are coming, we can't be surprised by anything that happens it might cause someone to have a heart attack.

Oh crap this just made the connection for me...Bolas wants to hunt down Planeswalkers feed their sparks into the immortal sun..then drain the sun of power to regain his old godlike power..

That sounds like a plan, but then why the lazotep army? To defend him while he's regaining his godhood?

I am guessing if he needs to go after Planeswalkers like Ob and Leshrac who had their own armies of minions, Even the OldWalkers had limits for how much they could do and fighting an entire plane as well as a Thousands of Years old Planeswalker at one time isn't exactly a great plan even for Lord Nicolas.
I think we still missing the reason why Azor made the sun. I this hows it going down;
Something on Ixalan is powerful/meaningful that Azor doesn't want anyone finding and made the Sun to keep walkers trapped there. Jace, Vraska and Azor realize that Bolas will send agent after agent for the Sun (maybe we get hints to other minors who died on Ixalan before Vraska?) and might find out the thing about Ixalan that makes it so special that Azor wants to hide it. The Sun can't be turn off so Jace and Vraska can't leave to get help. Vraska decides to have Jace wipe her memories so she can be a sleeper agent and Azor is *okay* with giving up the Sun since its not what he is really trying to protect. Plans goes as is and Vraska goes off with Tezzeret and the Sun to whatever Bolas has planned and Jace goes off to find the rest of the gatewatch (maybe with a new guild pact spell, honesty thats been the frustrating about having him being a gatewatch member to me). AZor goes on to keep peace on Ixalan but....
I think we going to see a new planar ship from the art for Dominaria so that the gatewatch can gather a few key legendary creatures who are sparkelss (such as Azor, Teferi and Jhoira). Kinda a long shot since creative wants palneswalker to kinda mean something but Bolas has his portal now and if its limited to certain character I could see it working.

So who won? Looks like Merfolk took the Sun and ran off with it, while Vampires conquered the land, Pirates took all the treasure, and Dinos are dead.
They are doing a "pick your own ending" adventure book thing where between geocaching and a future social media votes, one of the faction will win. Creative has written all four 4 ending and until we know who got the most "points" we won't know who takes the city.

There is some necromancy on Ixalan, just not as much as somewhere like Innistrad. Grim Captain's Call and March of the Drowned for instance.

Orazca is not the same thing as the Immortal Sun.
Bolas gets the Sun, but the question is who claims the city.
