I might point out that Angrath's home plane is one 'we haven't been to', not necessarily one 'we haven't seen'.
So Angrath could very easily be from, say, Regatha. If we do get a panoply of sets with each Gatewatch member dealing with the aftermath of the fight with Bolas, then Chandra could go to Regatha (makes sense, though Kaladesh is more likely) and Angrath would be found there, as an example.
The question is will he stay that way when he leaves Ixalan?
It'd be neat if we're getting a sympathetic RB character that won't color-shift because they became "good".
I'd say his black side was always there, doing anything for his daughters. Drana and Yehenni already showed how a black character can care for others.

Neither of those cards are red. The most common red creatures are goblins, who aren't the most creative. Dwarves, Minotaurs, Vashinos, Dragons, and Keldons aren't exactly known for their creativity either.
Also, if you read the flavor text of red cards, it doesn't scream creativity. A lot are about goblins being stupid, but here are some other ones:
"Of course you should fight fire with Fire, you should fight everything with fire."
"What's your plan?" Jace asked
"Are you serious?" Chandra replied
"Fire...is that your only trick Chandra?"
Is Chandra the most creature member of the Gatewatch? Were Squee and Tahngarth the most creative members of the Weatherlight? Is Hultai the most creative character on Ixalan? Was Tibalt creative?
It seems that blue that has more to do with creativity. Sure the Izzit are creative, but I'd say that's more blue than red. Which clan is more creative, the Gruul or the Simic? The Dimir or Rakdos?
Red to me is more about cards like smash, where they destroy things instead of being creative and building things. Or there are cards about chaos. Red is the only color that doesn't have card draw and is more about burn spells than versatility.

gwen-no-fear asked: You've said Blue/Red are the colors of creativity, but the Rakdos (Black/Red) run a theatre and the Simic (Blue/Green) are biomancers who create living things with science. Aren't all the color combinations creative in their own way?
Creativity is not exclusive to Blue/Red, it’s just the most prevalent in that color combination.
You should really brush up on the color pie man, looking just that the cards really get you stereotypes. Not all red characters are dumb.

Yeah man, I wasn't saying all red characters are dumb. I just think it's stupid that Hultai is red just because she's a poet when all colors have poets and creativity. Hultai just doesn't seem like a red character to me.

Yes but Maro said Red/blue is the creative colors (see Saheeli). Huatli is a knight, uses dinosaurs and writes poetry (she wants to be the Warrior Poet) and thats it really to her. Red is mostly that she is creative and she is a warrior (shared with white). I also mentioned creative hasn't shown her red side very well.

Red does have creative and artifice-oriented characters like Feldon of the Third Path, Pia and Kiran Nalaar and Daretti, Scrap Savant. Both red and blue can and have displayed creativity, but the difference is that red is more about the artistic aspect of artifice, while blue is more about functionality or perfection.
You're using the most negative aspects of the color (as well as some really old cards and flavour text that never really captures the entire breadth of the lore anyway) for your argument while ignoring the positive aspects of it that have been developed over the years, particularly in recent times.
Red follows its heart, and true creativity can come from the heart as well as the mind.
every creator worth his or her salt pours their hearts and souls into their best creations.
feelings and emotional reactions are often the best source for inspiration.
also, red may be the color of chaos, but it is also the color of loyalty and bonding. Red loves harder and more fiercely than any of the other colors. if a red character is in your corner, he or she will die for you...and woe be to anyone that crosses you, because your beef is theirs.
this may be part of the reason why Angrath is able to captain his own pirate ship, and inspire a crew to run with him. they know he's got their back.

Considering the Gruul constantly find new ways to get back at civilisation while the Simic base their creations on cold efficiency and the Rakdos are actual artists while the Dimir still haven't figured out a way to co-exist with society, Red seems more creative in both ways.
Even the Boros are more creative than the Azorius, having reinvented themselves while the latter still cling to the same protocol.
Anyway MtG realizes a lot of its players are dads and moms I guess. Hundred year old Lilys and Bolases with no kids? I mean come on.
Lili, as healer-turned-necromancer, definitely knows how to deal with unwanted pregnancies. And knowing her self-interest, all pregnancies would be unwanted.
Couldn't she just raise the aborted kid? I mean, if we get cozy happy minotaur family we should also get an Adams family...
Considering the unwanted pregnancies would likely be somewhere between a zygote and a developed fetus (though I doubt Lili would let it get that far), I don't think it'd be as Adam's family as you'd think.
Nah, everybody knows that Niv-Mizzet is gonna turn out to be Bolas's son.
And the thing Ral Zarek is working on for Bolas is family reunion party? Immortal Sun as a gift for all the missed birthdays (and science fairs), that's a neat idea.
I can't tell which conversation in this thread I'm less into, Color Pie Debate #57,023,769,327,693, or the one about the current state of Liliana's womb.

Closer to 2 months. Rivals is out on 1/19, stories tend to start around or even before spoilers and spoilers should start. 19th is release, 12th is peerless, full spoilers on 5th with spoiled on the Dec 25....maybe. Wizards like to give the holidays off so I wonder how that will work.
In the mean time we know Maro is writing at least one unstable story.

EDIT: going thru her feed I also see that she state Mavren scene in the race part 1 is month or so before Vraska crashes her ship. Unknown where his is currently.
Re Mavren*: Yeah, Kumena mentions that the Legion has a visionary leading their search for Orazca when trying to persuade Tishana that they need to claim Orazca first (which would logically be Mavren, since Vona has never been hinted at having any special sort of divination type ability), and that took place right before Kumena/Tishana wrecked the Vona's ship and the Belligerent.
I want to doubt that they'll let us go that long without anything. With Unstable and Iconic Masters on the way we have the opportunity for some off world stories. Also Explorers of Ixalan is also coming so we still have something to give us some Ixalan stuff too.
I'm still surprised Bolas didn't do anything to Ajani. There's no Ajani's defeat card. So is Ajani converted to Bolas's side and we'll see him try to hunt down Jace in Rivals?

Ajani wasn't there. Being the only member of the gatewatch to ever actually fight Bolas he was smart enough not to walk into Bolas' home turf. He went to collect allies and was going to meet up with tbe other five but since they're idiots they got their asses handed to them instead. So no Ajani didn't have a defeat because he didnt fight.

Red does have card draw, such as Cathartic Reunion and Tormenting Voice, Wheel of Fortune-type effects and "impulse-draw" in cards like Outpost Siege, Act on Impulse and Chandra, Pyromaster. Red's card draw is either temporary or requires that you discard one or more cards as a cost.

Still counts. Best believe Lili still thinks of Jace as HERS, and she will be jealous if this Vraska+Jace ship continues after Ixalan.
