So, have we decided . . . what creatures were the Kraul after? Szadek's lost vampire race?
I'm pretty sure it's an older group of Orzhov.
The erstwhile (former) plus ostentation seems to point that direction.
And Nissa had a visions where a sun sigil (possibly the Orzhov) destroyed a stone tablet (Tablet of the Guilds). So that's where my money is.
Wait, thought that her vision was Amonkhet specific?
Why would it have to be? Emrakul is influencing her still, and we know Emrakul has already given us visions of the future (Chandra vs Baral, which Nissa stopped). These two in particular seem to point at other planes.
She saw a young man, his face erased, stumbling among a garden of statues. High above the man a growing cloud of dusk attacked the sun. From somewhere outside the garden there was a mighty roar.
Seems like a reference to either Ashiok or Daxos.
The sun disc approached a large circular stone tablet covered with strange sigils, and the two discs merged, becoming a single golden disc. Cracks appeared in the golden disc, small at first, then widening, growing. The disc crumbled away into nothingness.
So I was EXTREMELY disappointed it wasn't a Kaalia of the Vast story.
That said, I enjoyed it. Wizards has done a really good job over the past few months of building up Vraska to be a serious villain, maybe not on the Bolas level, but formidable nonetheless, and pretty much all without featuring her. First the attack on the Azorious, followed by Ral Zarek revealing she planeswalked to nowhere (which is theoretically impossible), and now with her finally making a true bold play on overtaking the Golgari using Mazirek.

Thanks, dude. I had no idea Kaalia'd gotten a story. Good read, although I wish it'd expanded more into her adulthood.
