Honestly this whole discussion was rendered pretty pointless the moment Tiro assumed he was the main -or maybe even only- target group of this product.
And we haven't even gone into the fact that with the new block model revisits will be 50%.
At any rate, before the mods step in, let me just conclude my own involvement in this debate by saying that I'd rather have 1 Mairsil and 9 Licias than any number of Ludevics.

I said we should be given priority as this is the only product that can target those demands. Please do not put words in my mouth. I wrote an entire novel explaining my point not to have statements taken out of context.
EDIT: BTW please don't bait me into this with nasty comments, I've said what I wanted.

Out of curiousity, where is the conclusion that "this is the only product that can target those demands" coming from? I find it to be a very presumptuous assumption, especially with Dominaria sitting on the horizon. Previous return sets have given us previously un-carded characters as well, though obviously at a low volume. Additionally, they're equally capable of tackling legends in other supplemental products, so I don't really see the basis for that conclusion.
Additionally, the zombies also look more like those from the Silumgar brood. Compare: Sibsig Icebreakers
This... is really weird. Nothing about this Taigam makes sense.
It is a friggin' mess. Fortunately, the page confirms that he is intended to be the Khans version of Taigam. He also has clearly Jeskai, not Ojutai robes. Silumgar tattoo is idiocy. Failure on all levels.
Sidisi's Hand title makes no sense on dragon Tarkir.
The blurbs on the page are really an insult...they could put at least a little more effort to them. Even C16 commanders had twice long descriptions...:-(
Isn't he more a flavor concept than an actual character?
He's the "essence of all dragonkind in the multiverse" and legend has it that all dragons are his descendants.
He had no story appearance whatsoever yet but was used as a reference point for the primevals of Dominaria (Darigaaz, Rith, Treva, Dromar, Crosis) who each inheritedoneofhischaracterisics.
Indeed it is. A concept. An embodiment of all things dragon. Like the worldsouls of different planes. Even giving him a card is a great stretch, but one can interpret is physical manifestation.

While I agree that they messed up with Taigam, how are the blurbs an insult? Were we expecting an essay on each of them? Also "twice" is close, but not entirely correct, as the C16 commander blurbs were 5 to 6 lines long, and most of the C17 blurbs are 3 to 4 lines long, with Ojutai!Taigam's being over 4 lines long.

Its just that a lot of us would like them to put a little more into them.
Aren't we supposed to get one story connected to commander before Ixalan starts? Is that this week or next?

I don't mind having more content in the blurbs, but for the most part, I think they're enough to give a basic understanding of who these characters are. In the case of Mirri and Sultai!Taigam, the art is more offensive.

Well.... Yes and no. In some cases they're sufficient. Like Mathas. But then there are some like Balan which literally only told us her sex. And yeah Wizard Taigam is a mess and the artist probably didn't get a note about Mirri's eyes.
You see how much effort Creative puts into these podcasts when they read the names of all the Hellkites of Magic and miss 4 of them, including the Utvara Hellkite that was reprinted in the Dragon deck.

Dam*** I really hate these podcasts - they have severely reduced my opinion of Allison and her representation of the creative team
I know. She's a good author and has made some good contributions. She's naturally funny and excitable - but these podcasts try too hard to be funny and it really undermines the lore and effort put into it. Really cringe-worthy. O-Kagachi is 5 colors because he's the Worldsoul of Kamigawa… IDK. Kinda feels like they're acting as if they don't take the lore seriously to please the casual fans who also might not… but anyone tuning into the podcasts has an actual appreciation for it and would rather they drop the act and the cheesy humor attempts. Kelly Digges really should have done these podcasts. He's eloquent and his stories are among the absolute best too.
Some people here are talking about writing stories for the creative team like it's an easy job. The reason these podcasts exist is because the creative team simply does not have enough time and energy to keep up with a constant demand of great stories. That's not them being lazy or slacking off, that's just the reality of the situation. They are doing their best in everything they do, and imho there have been some huge improvements to magic's storytelling just in the last year. If them doing everything they can do means that we sometimes get these podcasts and/or short blurbs for non-standard products, I'm totally fine with that. If, in midst of the countless tasks that they have do, they miss some random little things, then I'm also fine with that, assuming that it wasn't an intentional mistake that they'll do their best to avoid such in the future.
In addition to many other jobs, the creative team also has to provide a large enough variety of content in order to, ideally, make sure that everyone can find some part of the storytelling cool and engaging. Not everyone is into the same type of story, and some people may absolutely hate only getting blurbs and podcasts for a little while. That's totally fine, there is nothing wrong with your own taste. But please, please don't blame the creative team for not meeting your specific expectations. They are doing everything they can, they are always looking to improve, and I for one don't think they're given enough credit for their hard work.
An interesting thing is that the quoted Ur-Dragon blurb from the leaflet is longer than the one on web, about two whole sentences. Gives me a slight hope for the rest...
Other than that...yeah, they are not putting much effort into that.

No one criticized Creative for having podcasts… just their content. The blurb was the best part of the podcast, and it's something we can just read next week when I buy the Dragon deck. The only one I'm buying.
1) Some of the mistakes here aren't random little things, and that should be acknowledged.
2) I understand that this is yet another burden for the team, and that isn't their fault. There used to be a time when we got these awesome books when we bought a fat pack...now they need to actually write the stories, too.
But there's a bigger problem here, it seems to me. Have you read the HOU booklet inserted with the fatpack? It straight up contradicts things that happen in the short stories and sometimes even the cards...Things like that and the poor quality of these podcasts don't make them look good.

I wouldn't use the term great to describe the stories that have come out since Battle for Zendikar.
I wouldn't use the word great to describe every single story since BFZ either, but I also think there's been noticeable improvement ever since. While I know there were some controversial moments in the HOU storyline, imho it was the most consistently well written set in terms of stories for a while.
I honestly don't read anything over then the online stories when it comes to the current main plotline. I do agree that that inconsistency is an issue. I know not everything at WOTC is done at the same time behind the scenes, so that may be part of the problem.
As far as the content of the podcasts, again, different people want different things. I personally have enjoyed all three thus far, and I realize not everyone shares that opinion. That is perfectly fine. It doesn't mean that they made "wrong" decisions, just different ones than what some people wanted (and that is always going to happen).

I don't mind them using podcasts to fill the gaps. But, the quality of these podcasts has been poor. THAT is the issue. Filler for the sake of filler is not something I would want representing my brand. If they're going to half-a** these things I would prefer they not do them at all. I listened to each one hoping to hear something interesting and came away bored and disappointed with each. These didn't need to happen, but they did and they were junk.
What they did accomplish was degrading our perception of the creative team and explain a lot about the poor execution of so many of the stories in the last couple years. There seemed to be very little continuity within the creative team and these podcasts reinforced that.
Oh, this was all in my opinion - just to make that perfectly clear

I totally get that, and if I came across as trying to say something dumb like "your opinion is wrong", I apologize because that was not my intention. Again, I for one did enjoy the podcasts, but that's just a difference of opinion.
No matter what they do in situations like these, some people are always going to be disappointed or upset by their decision. If they had done nothing, I'm willing to be that there would be at least as many, if not more, people that would be equally disappointed (myself included).
I certainly agree that the creative team did not implement these podcasts as well as most of their recent stories. I did still enjoy it, but I can definitely understand how some people may be disappointed. Hopefully all this constructive feedback will help in similar future scenarios.
I've had a better time reading lore summaries on MTG Wiki… The entry on Night's Reach is what got me to read the Kamigawa trilogy and lead to my obsession with all things Kamigawa for example. These podcasts could have engaged people like that, but instead felt like parodies.
That was straight up watercooler talk, and I would fill my cup and walk away.
But I also believe that's the intended vibe? So no real problems with it. Or have they specifically stated they want to reel in people with these podcasts? Because then....

So no, we won't get a story until... 6th of September?
