So I'm curious. Is Ichikawa of the Great River another name for Myojin of Seeing Winds?
And is there a list of Kamigawa characters from the books? I'd like to make a list of those on cards and those without. I will edit the OP to include them. Please help me fill in this list.
On cards:
Toshi Umezawa
That Which was Taken
Kiku, Night's Flower
Myojin of Night's Reach
Myojin of Infinite Rage
Myojin of Life's Web
Myojin of Cleansing Fire
Mochi
Uyo
Yuki-onna
Godo
Konda
Michiko
Ben-Ben
Hidestugu
General Takeno
General Nagao
Brothers Yamazaki
Hisoka
Keiga
Marrow-Gnawer
Yosei
Meloku
Isamaru
Jugan
Sosuke
Sachi
Seshiro (?)
O-Kagachi
Without cards:
Choryu
Boss Uramon
Kobo
Kyodai
Riko
Lady Pearl-Ear
Sharp-Ear
Sisters of Flesh and Spirit (together)
Chiyo
Eitoku
All-Consuming Oni of Chaos
Aoyama, Keeper of Moths
The spirit Chroyu prays to and took orders from who was the patron of Minamo. I've heard it could be another name for the Myojin of Seeing Winds?
It seems unlikely that this is the Myojin of Seeing Winds. Based on context within the story Ichikawa works for Mochi, the Smiling Kami of the Cresent Moon, and there is no way the Myojin works with or for Mochi who was an active usurper of the current order.
and one of the guys working at Wizards at the time told me that O-Kagachi's card was literally Final Judgment since at the time they considered it too powerful for a creature card.

hope that helps.
Right, right. I have That Which was Taken in my Kamigawa themed EDH deck too. I'll add it.
I didn't know someone answered your question about O-Kagachi before. That's very interesting. This must have been in the pre-EDH days. I feel like no matter the CMC they really should print such absurdly powerful cards. Vorthos will do anything to cast them even if it's all we do in a casual game. I suspect cards like Arixmethes aren't made for this reason, but I really feel they should be. Make a 20 CMC O-Kagachi. Who cares. It'll be great.
But yeah, I can see how Final Judgment is essentially his card. Hence why I also play it in that deck. I'd love to see an individual card for him someday though, the sisters as well.
You seem to be omitting the part of Guardian when fleeing Toshi arrives in the middle of soratami invasion to Jukai.
Sosuke has a speaking part there, Sachi is seen calling Jugan (just not mentioned by name), Jugan also manifests and buries the soratami army in a valley landslide.
Or are you just purposefully ignoring the enemies of blue? ;-) /jk

How about everybody's favorite Hound, probably the last bringer of joy for Takeno before he turned spirit and a literal walking beacon of motivation for samurai.

Added Sachi, Sosuke and Isamaru to the list of those with cards. I forgot this entire scene actually. I only remembered Life's Web vs. Toshi and the Orochi attacking before Kobo was murdered (:() but Jukai had this scene too.
Thank you for pointing these out. Damn, my Kamigawa character deck now needs more cards it has no room for. I may sadly have to remove cards like Masako, who doesn't appear in the story (I think) to make room. Does Seshiro himself appear at all in the books? Or just his offspring Sachi and Sosuke?
If you guys think of more please let me know. Need to be certain I have all character cards from the books.
EDIT: I'm assuming the "twins" mentioned in the books are the Brothers Yamazaki, correct?

Just Sosuke and Sachi. Masako is mentioned by Konda, I think, when Michiko is shown the night of her birth and the theft of TWWT. I am not sure she is "seen", though, and definitely she has not a speaking role there.

Yes, definitely. It is also described how one of them (Shujiro) got the neck arrow wound, and only thanks to Bonds of Ice and Firewe knew that he actually survived.

I'll have to look out for implications of Masako when I re-read the books then. It's too bad Seshiro didn't appear instead of his children. He's cooler. I may use all 3 in my character deck just for the sake of it. Finding room though… it's tough. May have to cut the Onna cycle out and leave only Yuki-Onna
Right, right so the Brothers are indeed the twins, excellent. Shame we can't use both in EDH but eh, I'm pressed for room as it is. So my list should be complete regarding character cards and those who have yet to see print so far. Also what are your thoughts on Ichikawa being Seeing Winds?
Also, locations. We have lands for many such as Minamo or Shinka. I don't recall Shizo appearing, though does Hall of the Bandit Lord appear anywhere? Which bandit lord is that hall for? Godo? The locations on lands we have from the book I know of are:
Eiganjo Castle
Minamo, School at Water's Edge
Oboro, Palace in the Clouds
Shinka, the Bloodsoaked Keep
Tendo Ice Bridge (Heart of Frost)
The soratami city above Minamo is in fact called Otawara. Oboro could be a palace in Otawara, though.
Shinka appears, but just as the name of Hidetsugu's dwelling (cave), definitely not the keep on the card.
I really do not know we can identify Tendo as the Heart of Frost, as the location was not a bridge at all, if I recall correctly.
Yeah, I am a big nerd when it comes to Kamigawa novels. These were the first Magic books I translated into Czech
Any idea on Mikokoro, God's Eye, Shizo or Hall of the Bandit Lord appearing in the books? It's my understanding none of those do.
Right. I believe Oboro was the capital, but regardless it's an image of Otawara.
Tendo Ice Bridge depicts a bridge in the Tendo peaks, and among those is the Heart of Frost, which is the steep mountain haunted by the Yuki Onna. So it may not show the exact mountain, but it is the general location of it. Untaidake is in this area too, and has its own card, but like the lands I listed above I don't think it appears in the books either? I've been doing a search and haven't found any of the other lands by name in the books - but I worry I may have missed them because of situations like Sachi who appear but are not mentioned by name.
Glad to see we have something in common. I LOVE the Kamigawa novels perhaps even more than Godsend. That's saying a lot as a major Theros fan. Czech men tho <3 annnnyway. Wish we had any idea what Ichikawa was. All the other Myojin were called by name. Why did we end up with this vague mess for Blue.

Pretty sure we never saw Godo in the center of his territory (he's almost always at the frontlines or paying someone else a visit), so I don't remember every seeing the Hall (he's pretty much the only known Bandit Lord). Tendo Ice Bridge isn't Legendary, so it might stand there are several bridges among the peaks of Sokenzan.
Another known place that has been visited was the Honden of Night's Reach (although the one Toshiro visited was more or less the spiritual link point of the the physical ones rather than the physical one depicted). It could be possible that when he "silenced" Life's Web he also paid a visit to her Honden. The Honden of the All-Consuming was also mentioned, although never directly seen (nor on a card).
Talking about Toshiro, the Jitte was so important it probably warrants a mention (before you ask I don't think any other equipment was of any importance).
It was never mentioned by name, but the entire dream-sequence Uyo attempted to trap Toshiro in could possibly be a reference to Meishin, the Mind Cage, I mean the entire scheme wasn't explicitly named, but it was pretty much the only direct mind-game played in the entire story and the generics (thoughts=dreams, -X/-0 a reference to trapping) do match somewhat. The enchantments are a difficult bunch to translate over.

Yep, I play cards like Honden of Night's Reach and the Jitte in my Kamigawa story themed deck (in my signature). I meant to focus on the character cards themselves though. I'm pleased that I made this thread since I was missing Seshiro's children which I had forgotten also appear. I hope I am not missing any others!
Interesting theory about Life's Web. If that's the case, I'll have to add her Honden to the deck. Will go back and read that section.
My favorite part of the story is when Hidetsugu fights Keiga. I remember he definitely involves himself with the Yamabushi and may have encountered Kumano.
The soratami city above Minamo is in fact called Otawara. Oboro could be a palace in Otawara, though.
Shinka appears, but just as the name of Hidetsugu's dwelling (cave), definitely not the keep on the card.

Can you confirm that Kumano appeared in the novels? At least by mention? I do not recall this. I do know he has his own Uncharted Realms but specifically in the novels, IDK.
My favorite part of the story is when Hidetsugu fights Keiga. I remember he definitely involves himself with the Yamabushi and may have encountered Kumano.
Let's see if Caranthir can confirm, but I don't recall Kumano appearing, even by mention. Nor Ink-Eyes either.

Kumano was not mentioned by name in the novels. Hidetsugu went to persuade some yamabushi masters to join him on his revenge, but they were less than enthusiastic. He ended up killing the masters he negotiated with and taking their eight pupils with him to have his own yamabushi army.

So it is likely that Kumano is among those yamabushi masters? I don't want to go out on too much of a limb and include him in the list if he's not heavily implied enough, like Sachi was.

No, it is not likely he was killed by Hidetsugu. Sachi was not "heavily implied", but outright identified by everything but her name. If one of these masters was Kumano, we would have been told. Remember also that Kumano himself was a bit of a hermit.

Poor wording on my part. Sachi was all but named for sure. Good point about Kumano.
Alright, just to confirm for those reading, Ink-Eyes (and Higure, and essentially all Ninjas) were not in the books at all. I noticed today that Konda and and Nagao appear in the artwork of Vassal's Duty, and in the artwork for the UR "Bonds of Fire and Ice" we see Godo departing from Hall of the Bandit Lord, which is a Legendary Land. So I bought one for my Kamigawa story deck. Konda also appears on the card Reverence. Tenza and Oathkeeper are Godo and Takeno's legendary weapons respectively - which are not mentioned by name like the jitte, but are described. The only weapon described but not on a card otherwise is Hidetsugu's tetsubo I believe.
And is there a list of Kamigawa characters from the books? I'd like to make a list of those on cards and those without. I will edit the OP to include them. Please help me fill in this list.
On cards:
Toshi Umezawa

General Nagao
Brothers Yamazaki

Without cards:

I didn't know someone answered your question about O-Kagachi before. That's very interesting. This must have been in the pre-EDH days.
