Its like we're watching Boxing or Wretling or Gladiators, they dodge, they punch, they leap five feet through air. Gideon wants to teach Jace how to use a sword.
Arlinn, an ARCH-MAGE of Innistrad. Doesn't EVER cast spells, instead goes all out beast mode and fights with teeth.
Nissa, can turn the soil into giant autobots. Fights with her sword.
Gideon, whips his surral back and forth! havent seenread him cast a spell even once. Can he like cast spells or is he basically Wolverine?
I mean these guys are supposed to be mages or what?
end rant
Hope we get to see more MAGIC in Punches the Gathering. Less punches, less confusing punch battles.

MtG is where you can hate white players or black players, and still not be racist.
Arlinn is more defined as being a werewolf, makes sense that's her focus. And Gideon's entire gimmick is he actually fights. The rest for the most part do rely on magic though. Jace doesn't do much physical, Tamiyo uses her scroll magic, Chandra burns things, Liliana has her death lasers and zombies, Nissa makes plant fighters, etc.
I think that's why so many of us loved Thassa vs. Kiora. It involved summoning and casting spells like crazy. I agree there's too much physical nonsense. Fortunately the fight with Emrakul was all about magic. Even the other titans, toward the end.
I do agree there's too much physical confrontation and not enough magic. That's something I miss about Theros. The spells there were huge and flashy, especially when cast by the gods.
I think Gideon kinda blew the curve, so to speak, during BFZ block. They've really mishandled him. What happened to all that hieromancy training?
Otherwise I think you're exaggerating. Nissa doesn't pull her sword out very often, when Chandra throws a punch it's usually on fire, I can't imagine that Lili would be caught dead (ha!) in cqc. Gideon is trying to train Jace to fight and his friend from the Consortium whose name escapes me gave him a little bit of training with a sword but it's not really his shtick. As for Arlinn she didn't really get enough face time to have both her werewolf troubles and her magics properly expanded upon.
Really? I always asumed it was Hixus' traning that gave him the ability. I don't remember him actually having a chance to test it out before the prison thing
Indeed. In his first day in the prison he fights a thug working for Ristos, the "king" of the prison, and explains that he has long ago discovered that fighting was the source of his magic and it shows a picture of him with his gold shimmer over his arm. This was all prior to, and what lead to, him meeting Hixos.
Gideon is *so* going to turn out to be Heliod's son. The Sun's son if you will.
Yeah probably. I mean that's about as cliche Greek myth as you can get.
We need Demigods tbh. I prefer the idea of the Theros gods behaving like the Greek gods, right down to children with mortals. I didn't like how original Theros skirted the idea of romance/relations between gods and mortals in the more intimate sense. These were the cornerstone of Greek Myth often times.

Wizards creative didn't want that aspect and have stated the only "child" of the Theros gods are the nyx born they create. You know that wizards doesn't have to have Theros be a perfect lift of Greek mythology?

Yeah but Theros is supposed to be Magics form of Greek Mythology and when you're pulling things to mirror from Greek myth hero's being children of the gods should be one of the first things you grab.
Just because I called it cliche doesn't mean it's not something I think should happen.

exactly. And frankly why so explicit with violence and leave out relationships/romance especially when intimacy of gods and mortals is key o Greek myth

Censorship in the USA.
I agree that trait could be add since it is a key in Greek myths, but I can see why wizards had cut this out. Personally I like it because it 1) a difference in the twos mythology and 2) might be an element of them being born nyx so they are "artificial" like angels or demons and can't reproduce outside of the nyx born, which are kinda demigods in this way.

You don't need to show the deed, if you say someone is the son or daughter of one of the Theros gods, I would imagine people get how that happened. Besides demigods are something that people in popular culture think about when they hear greek mythology and Maro likes resonance with people for their sets. So I think they likely will show demigods when we return to Theros.
Plus when showing family for the gatewatch/major characters, we can see a broader range of emotions then just anger for Red.

Nope. That ability is natural to him.

Man have we strayed off topic.
