Do you have any proof of what you say? If it was just an accident and innocent edit, it happened to include a really peculiar sentence and as a result, it sent mixed/potentially controversial signals.
No, I don't have any proof of it being a "harmless" edit. But I don't really understand why people view the change as controversial. As others here have pointed out, what Chandra originally said was very explicit and out of character. It was worded in such a way that even the most thick-witted readers would get that Chandra is interested in Nissa romantically. I can understand that people want representation, but I don't like it when a story has to be written awkwardly just to incorporate the exact words some people would like to read, at all costs. In the edited version, the situation retains the same atmosphere, the dialogue is more in-character, and you can still tell that Chandra is bummed about being "friendzoned".
So they just edited out the very obvious romantically inclined question Chandra asked to Nissa with no comment.
That's honestly a pretty gross action and reeks of WOTC being afraid of people in the community like those crazy "cultural marxism"/"gay propaganda" conspiracy theorists. Choose your side WOTC. Either you fully accept people in the LGBTQ community and believe they deserve the spotlight just as much as everyone else or you don't. You can't just keep keep making token background LGBT characters for brownie points and act like that's progress. Actively censoring an author to take LGBT themes out is the opposite of progress and shows that you really do just want to keep sprinkling out token characters to keep heat off yourself in place of actually giving a care.
Good for WotC.
Chandra and Gideon have been hinted at as a potential thing since the Purifying Fire novel. This weird twist with her and Nissa came out of the blue during Kaladesh and now they are trying to make it a thing.
The company doesn't have to choose a side to cater to the vocal minority. Why should they? In the current world where everyone believes that they are entitneld to something and that they need to be represented everywhere, I fully support the companies that do their best to go against that flow. This isn't a anti gay statement, it can be said about literally any type of movement or people (fat, anorexic, black, white, rich, poor...you get the point)
Um...Chill?
I'm a gay dude yet I always shipped Chandra with Gideon,
but to be honest there has been a lot of hints suggesting that Chandra may have feelings for Nissa.
As a recently 'Out of Closet' LDS (Mormon)dude, Chandra's (and mine own) sexuality befuddles me yet I'm trying to realize that not every character, or theme in MTG has to align with my values, past, present or evolving.
There is nothing wrong with GideonXChandra, nor ChandraXNissa, or even just Chandra (difficult for her as that may be). If anything, I'm feeling Gideon's relationship with Chandra now reminds me more of that of a sibling, cousin or friend but that's my interpretation. Nissa also seems to uninterested in anything right now, which isn't really a sign of anything but that very statement.
There is nothing wrong with people morally disagreeing with what I do as a Gay, so long as they maintain respect for plurality.
There is nothing wrong with LGBTQ+ wanting and receiving greater recognition and protections, so long as they maintain respect for plurality.
The GayMormon in me says people are far too immoderate on these issues than needs be. Let's just read the story and trust that Wizards will continue making characters and stories for everyone. Even for weirdly conservative gays like myself.
Edit: let no one mistake, I'm a happy man and quite happy with my LuvLad.
How could someone morally disagree with you and still respect what you do? I'm opposed to, for instance, murder specifically because I think it's immoral. The whole purpose of moral judgements is to decide what people shouldnt be allowed to do.

You can't.
You can morally disagree with someone but still act accordingly to law/norms? For example, if you morally disagree with someone who is gay, you can still chose to either act reasonably when you're interacting with that someone or to simply ignore them. You can also choose to insult them and beat them, though that part would go against acting accordingly to law/norms (depending on the society). I think that the former example, the acting reasonably or simply ignoring, is what could constitute as ''morally disagreeing but still respecting'' although I do think that it might be a poor choice of words to describe the situation at hand.
This Forum isn't meant to discuss this issue, so to be polite to others whom would rather discuss what this forum is about, message me for further info on how I view LGBTQ+ and Religious issues. I'm more than willing to discuss them.
In essence however, I stand by what I said. I honestly DO believe that respect can and has been shown by people despite differences regarding what is moral or immoral behavior. I have experienced this.
I have felt that respect as I've associated with my Mormon friends and leaders, whom, while believing my actions to be immoral, did not express or practice anger, seclusion, or persecution.
They still love me, despite their believing my actions to be inherently self-destructive, and harmful to society.
They understand my feelings were not chosen, and merely believe my choice to act upon them is misguided.
And I love them and respect that they feel this way, despite not coming to the same conclusions. It felt right.
TBH think that both of your expressions represent why there will never be reconciliation on this subject. And the escalations are already begun.
Too many of my fellow LGBTQ+ peeps want and demand complete concord from all persons, institutions and organizations that what we do is right and should be affirmed. While I believe public institutions should protect ourselves from discrimination, I'm uncertain my conclusions on what is/isn't discrimination is as broad as other's. Furthermore private institutions and persons ought to be able to respectfully hold and express their own views on the matter.
On the other hand, if tolerance is merely meeting a minimum threshold of civility, with the belief that violence or verbal aggression is only inappropriate as far as it is illegal or unreasonable, then such persons will begin to harbour a predisposition of enmity with LGBTQ+ persons, to the extent that they will more often than not find themselves crossing the boundaries of what is normative and civil despite their attempts.
The willingness of unrelated citizens and strangers to empathize or sympathize with one another, irrespective of disagreement is foundational to the concept of liberal democracy.
Such Civic Friendship cannot be forced but can be fostered, and any gradual erosion of such will bring calamity to all persons, regardless of their identity.

Wizards. listen. The Vorthos community will await the consequences of the Eldrazi Titans' deaths/sealing. We will keep the watch.
“The wind whispers, ‘come home,’ but I cannot.”

And the number 3 seemed just too obvious for me to not mention the Eldrazi.
This week's story indicates that Bolas conquered Amonkhet mere decades ago (it separately states that three generations have passed, a generation is widely considered to be about 25years, thus 7-8 decades in total). The eldrazi have existed for at minumum 6,000 years. So no, there's no way that the two are related.
I felt really put down by the fact that Nissa was able to track a person she didn't interact with by "sensing her". Back in kaladesh they first had to investigate with the locals, and then she had to track the aether flow to see if she could find an underground facility. Here they skipped all that and turned her into a kind of supernatural tracker.
I think that sucks. Really hard. Now she will be able to track everyone and everything without trouble. By virtue of that alone, she is the most powerful member of the gatewatch now.
Keep in tune for next week, when she will be able to track Vraska's mana all across the blind eternities.

Nissa is also capable of martial skill with a sword, but I would wager Gideon has more prowess. She can perform summoning, but Liliana can also do so and in greater number. She can attack her foes with vines and plants she manipulates, but Chandra is much more capable at crowd control. She can heal with poultices, but Ajani is by far more of a master at the art of healing. As for Jace he deals with the mind manipulation of creatures, Nissa talks to the minds of planes.
Her primary skills that she has mastered are scrying and channeling mana. The rest are kind of jack-of-all.
So how could Bolas have gotten rid of three god? Why? What colors were they? Where are they now?
I do have to say that Gideon's arc on Amonket has been great so far. He thinks he's found the one thing in life that he's always wanted. Definitely showing off a weakness of White as well.
I think the piece we're missing to understand Bolas's plan for Amonkhet has to do with the next block: Atlazan. We know Vraska will be in the set, and the last we heard of her was Ral Zarek telling Jace that she planeswalked away from Ravnica, but with "no destination" that Ral could detect. Given that Atlazan seems to be inspired by Atlantis, it seems likely the plane is "lost" in some way making it normally inaccessible to planeswalkers. Bolas may be trying to breach it in order to access some power source hidden there.

It isn't confirmed anywhere.
It's speculated to be either the next block, or the block after (with a return to Ravnica between) due to some guy's supposed insider information (he said there would be an Egypt world, then RTRTRavnica, then Atlantis world, IIRC) and a marketing research image which included booster images matching those we eventually got in Amonkhet and including several from the "Atlazan" block (one of which featuring art which is likely to be/pretty obviously Vraska).
Grain of salt and all that, but thus far it is looking like it's all lining up (if a bit mistimed, as Kaladesh I think was actually the next block after that guy made his prediction/claim, not Amonkhet).
Atlazan seems like much more of a Mesoamerica block than Atlantis, and I kind of doubt either way it's centered on Bolas' plan. It's probably just on Amonkhet. After Amonkhet it's probably kind of a "break" of sorts, since Zendikar the Gatewatch has been pretty consistent as a group, after Amonkhet seems like a good time to have something less plot heavy.
I do find it interesting that they could switch Amonkhet and Kaladesh in order though.
A parade of mummies carrying literally dozens of dead initiates, presumably off to swell their ranks, while all Gideon can do is stand in the middle of it all, helpless and horrified.
And I'll just say the way they have introduced us to Amonkhet is absolutely nothing short of stellar. All the other crapsack worls we've had in MTG have pretty much hit you upside the head from the getgo with how awful they are (Zendikar, Innistrad, Rath, PHyrexia). With Amonkhet, we knew from the getgo that it was Bolas' world, and thus probably not a good place- but then we're immediately treated to glimpses of a beautiful, sparkling city with temples that gleam in the sun. We're shown artwork showing Nissa, Lilliana, and Gideon all smiling happily as they experience Amonkhet. We're shown a populace that strives for self-improvement, to be the best in tests given to them directly by their gods, who walk amongst them every day, almost as equals for the sake of determining the worthy. And we think "well, how bad can this place really be?"
And little by little that mask is being peeled away, and we're discovering that yes, Amonkhet really is as terrible as we'd first suspected, and that Bolas has pretty much brainwashed every single being on the plane (or at least in its capital) into a fanatical delusion in which they truly have no idea what a nightmare their society actually is- at least until its too late.
Maybe this was explained and I missed it but who raises children on Amonket? All indications are that literally every living person in the city devotes every waking moment to training. I don't think the mummies are equipped to deal with newborns. Maybe the parents (or just mother) take some time off but that seems the culture clearly doesn't value family bonds.
So the jackal-folk are called Khenra and tend to be born as twins.

The Khenra are really interesting, but I get that Wizards doesn't know what to do with Ainok now that they're introduced them. Seems they don't get any exposure card wise or story wise, and play second fiddle to the Leonin and Minotaur.
How are the second fiddle to Leonin and Minotaurs?
EDIT: It also looks like the worth dead are sent off in boats to the Gate of the Afterlife...they are doing a good job raising tension for the return of Bolas.

Oh that art makes a lot more sense now. From the spoiler, I would have thought it was Gideon walking up to random Amonkheti (is that the proper name for the people of Amonkhet?) like a mad prophet. I love the little bloody trail left by the guy in the foreground.

I don't see how you can get anything but Mesoamerican from that name. Atlazan. Even the name hints at the Aztecs, since their version of the promised land is called Aztlán, though it may also be their ancestral home. Sources aren't clear on that.
Edit:
I think Djeru will be this block's Narset, showing up as a planeswalker in Hour.
Edit 2:
How could we have missed it? Those things are called crops because Bolas harvests them. Da doi!
He's either a Planeswalker or a Legendary Creature. If the card is any indicator of his color identity he's probably Red/White then if he's a Planeswalker.

We've had many good memorable Leonin and Minotaur characters in stories over MTG's time. But since their induction, I don't think theres been a single named Ainok character appearing in a story or one thats had any relevance (nor a legendary). I was really surprised we got a Minotaur lord this set, rather than a Hound/Jackal lord.
Thats for clarifying I thought you meant they where second fiddle in color choice which had me confused. Well Leonin and Minotaurs have been around longer, Ainok only being around since Khans. I think the are still gauging our reactions and interest in them.
The minotaur lord is to make up for them thinking Mogis would be a good commander for minotaurs I believe.

Eh. Neheb isn't even that interesting. And ultimately, a minotaur commander deck is hard to pull off. There's too few of them unless you go changeling.
Interesting wasn't the issues, the issues was Mogis wasn't minotaur creature typed. Also tribal decks will always be wanted and used even if there isn't the support. That why design now is always looking for worlds to give minor tribes some tool, like cats are here.

To be fair, Mogis just looked like a minotaur. He wasn't one. Just like Iroas isn't a centaur and Xenagos wasn't a satyr.
Still doesn't help out with cards like Kragma Warcaller and Ragemonger. Also Iroas has the bottom of a bull (the opposite of Mogis who's top half is a bull) not a horse, making him close to a minotaur then a centaur.
Back on topic the 5th walker of the set has to have red blue and/or green for color balance then Djeru maybe being a RW walker might be it.

Xenagos is definitely a Satyr, going from Satyr to God is kind of the big deal of Theros block.
And for color balance Red/Green is the best solution. If it's not Red/Green then any other Red answer is pretty much equal, about the only guarantee is that it'll be Red in some way. I only said Red/White because if it is Djeru he had the White card and color balance says he has to be Red. I suppose they could always toss color balance out but usually they don't do that for no reason.
Just had a thought:
Tezzeret set them up (the Gatewatch)
Liliana wanted to know where Bolas was. Tezzeret tells her Amonkhet.
He knows Bolas is not there currently.
He even knows Razaketh is not there ( Digress to another theory Razaketh might be one of the three missing Gods )
Tezz hopes that the Gatewatch is distracted for a few days looking for Razaketh and being mind blown over the city and where Bolas might be.
He also knows Bolas will be back to destroy the plane shortly....(and with a heads up from tezzie that they are there.....
...mwauahahahah. 5 birds with one stone
Maybe this was explained and I missed it but who raises children on Amonket? All indications are that literally every living person in the city devotes every waking moment to training.
Well, one of their trials is the test of solidarity...
