I can't remember where it's said exactly, but I'm pretty sure it's confirmed that it can be easer for planeswalkers to planeswalk in times of life threatening danger. Example, when Elspeth planeswalked away from New Phyrexia she was in the middle of combat and barely escaped an explosion. Other examples could be Kiora getting away from Thassa (albeit she did distract Thassa for a few seconds beforehand), or almost any other walker's first planeswalk. I imagine almost getting crushed by Bolas falls under that category. Sure, it kind of just sounds like plot armor, but I think it at least sounds reasonable.
I skimmed through the book that comes with the bundles, but I remember reading about Bolas dominating the Gatewatch into fleeing the devastation and later on Samut's spark igniting during a confrontation with a god and walking to some other plane. I hope it's more memorable than Chandra rescuing everyone on Zendikar from Ob Nix with fire.

I think this is just whatever is convenient for the writer as I remember points where it was said that walking takes focus and can't be done or is harder to do under duress.

Yeah. The whole reason Sorin's not supposed to be able to just 'walk out of his stone prison is cause he's in too much pain to focus, so it's really at the mercy of plot convenience.
After digging around for the last thirty minutes or so, I haven't been able to find a reliable source that confirms either of our thoughts on the subject. I found a few reddit threads where some people said planeswalking speed depends on the walker and the situation, but I'd hesitate to call that any more credible than the two us trying to recall from our memory.
The normal planeswalking takes a fairly long time to be done, lots of concentration and focus. You cannot do that in a fight, or otherwise planeswalkers would be constantly teleporting around and not walk at all and be literally impossible to catch.
However, some circumstances make it possible for a walker to "spark-off" , but thats not controlled at all, and happens pretty much randomly in extreme situations. But this is very rare.
My own headcanon is that it's not really planeswalking that takes time and effort, it's doing it *safely*. Carefully searching the Blind Eternities for your proper destination is obviously preferable, but in a pinch you can just throw yourself blindly (pun intended) without caring where you land. This is how Jace will end up on Ixalan, a plane we have no indication he's ever visited before. As for Sorin, the reason he can't walk out from a wall is the same reason no one ever has to worry about appearing in the middle of a wall (again, by my headcanon).

Yes, this does indeed sound valid. Notice too how Kiora targeted Zendikar when she barely escaped from Thassa. A plane she's familiar with walking to. But even she has said wandering blindly through the Blind Eternities can be dangerous.
Yeah makes sense. If I remember right in The Purifying Fire when Chandra was captured by the Kephali authorities she couldnt walk while she was under the effects of their poisons but once she was able to she did so recklessly and ended up on Diraden, which didn't go well for her(or Gideon who followed her).

This makes it sound like Sorin is stuck in a video game.
Nice wrap up to the future of the survivors of Amonkhet. Really refreshing that this story had some hope after all the gloom of the other stories. So the current count is 5 dead gods, with Hazoret and the other two corrupted gods left.
I wonder what world Samut walked to and what she is going to do now she is a walker and a champion of Hazoret.

Hazoret is officially badass. Though when she was lamenting her siblings before dealing the killing blow to scorp god, I was like..... she's gonna get stung she's gonna get stung she'sgonnagetstung.
+points for Liliana still looking good covered in blood. She probably looks better, actually.
Not really looking forward to the last chapter, which will no doubt consist of lame gatewatch thoughts and even lamer Bolas evil-villain-ing. Unless he (like any good bad-villain) details what exactly his plans for his ascent to his former power are.
Story was ok. I have no interest in Samut as a character (she's been handled terribly imo) but at least we got to see more of Hazoret and Djeru. I wonder if Hazoret will manage to replace her arm somehow or will be one handed from now on. Also Hapatra makes it out alive which is a relief.
Last story is the Gatewatch vs Bolas and I kinda hope they wont rush the ending or the battle. They better not give it to James Wyatt to write it.
I'm happy that Samut stayed on Amonkhet as well. There's no other conceivable place for her to be until the survivors manage to find a new home. Afterwards, she'll probably go after Bolas but that's not until much later IMO.
Being the last trial God alive, I was expecting some badassery and Hazoret did not disappoint. I'm hoping there's a way to remove that "-1/-1 counter" from her (in this case, it's a missing limb). Perhaps Hazoret can regenerate it via leylines but I wouldn't be surprised if Creative kept it permanent. Usually at the end of each block, there's massive amounts of fire being flung and this one is no different. Only this time, it wasn't Chandra lol
As a person who loves Bolas and believes he can do no wrong (I blame Razaketh for waking the Scorpion. /bias ), I'll probably enjoy the last story.
I thought her planeswalker spark story was epic. Next week we finally see The Gatewatch fight grand-daddy and get rocked. Should be nice, since we already see him laughing in this story from the air.

This whole set has been pretty much Allison Luhrs baby. Mama needs to put the baby to bed next week.

Maybe Samut and Saheeli can get together and- OH WAIT
Yeah, it'd make way more sense if Samut just suddenly went "LOL screw those guys, not my problem anymore, idgaf"
