I wonder if Tez brought a vial of glistening oil with him. I mean, with all these machines around, why not do something fun?
While the canon around scars of mirrodin are fuzzy (the novel had no mention of praetors for example), Tezzeret hated Phyrexica and I don't think he'd want help spread them.

Writing was fair, about as good as we can expect. Doug Beyer is definitely one of the better writers on Creative, but not the best. The only thing that felt pushed was Liliana's corruption of Chandra. I mean, that was just a little too easy at some parts.
I'm glad Tezzeret is back, though I do wonder how he got in-vegtabled. Perhaps Bolas decided he could be useful again.
Pia is alive. Because yeah, nobody saw that coming.
Finally, I'm glad they finally ditched that stupid swimsuit thing for Liliana. The dress has always been her best costume.

That is what happened and happened was before scares of mirrodin.
On checking in with the planeswalkers 2015 says;
Pursuing new sources of power. Although the artificer Tezzeret has pledged his loyalty to the dragon Planeswalker Nicol Bolas, he prefers to recall his pledge only when it works to his own advantage. When Bolas sent Tezzeret to investigate the corrupted plane of New Phyrexia, Tezzeret was eager to wrestle leadership of the plane from its current "Father of Machines," the silver golem Karn. But his efforts were thwarted, and he has since begun a new mission for the dragon, carefully laying out his plans from a new corner of the Multiverse. . . .
So he might be on Kaladesh looking to take aether for some reason, since this is written with Kaladesh known coming up.

Pia is alive. Because yeah, nobody saw that coming.
Honestly, I was hoping they wouldn't pull such a cliche.
Of course, I should have known better.
Why is that a cliche? It was obvious, yes, but having both her parents be dead by now would have been much more of a cliche in my opinion (and much worse storytelling cause now we can get more potential characterization for Pia AND Chandra).
Oh man this story just keeps getting better and better! I mean, yes, we all knew that Pia would end up being alive, but I didn't expect for them to reveal it so soon. And Tezzeret! Tezzeret has always been one of my absolute favorite characters and I am so excited that he's back. I really wanted Tezzeret to show up in last week's story but I figured that that was just me dreaming, but here he is, so soon. I highly doubt he'll have a card in this set but most likely will in Aether Revolt. Looks like our antagonist has been revealed already. I can't wait to find out more about this rivalry between Pia (who seems to be the leader of the renegade movement) and Tezz (who somehow is the head judge at the fair?) Also, the fact that Liliana is there and can wrap up some unfinished business with Tezzeret is awesome. Can't wait for Wednesday! (hoping we still get a second story this week)
If ya never saw the body, assume they were alive, even if there's "no chance" of them surviving.
And yeah, it was cool to see Tezzeret back- until you remember where he was last scene. Kaledesh seems like an awesome world, please don't Phyrexia part 2 it, Wizards.

No, having both parents be dead would be logical. Not always when people die you get the opportunity to see the body.
Plus, now there needs to be an explanation how Pia actually survived a burning villages swarmed by consulate guys and why she abandoned her own daughter. It's not even that Chandra was tricked into believing her mother was dead. That would at least have been a decent twist now. Instead, she found the scarf herself.
Did the confrontation between Tezzeret and Pia seem kind of ... staged to anyone else? If Pia was the one who set off the explosion, why was she still there just hanging around at the scene? Why would Tezzeret be the one hunting her down if he's meant to be the head judge? Methinks I smell a deeper plot here ...

^But didn't you just give part of the exlanation yourself? In such a dangerous situation she had no way of knowing where Chandra and her husband even were and as such she had to (most likely very reluctantly) flee and abandon them (sacrificing herself wouldn't have helped in any way whatsoever). How she did it is really not that important I think, though if you really want to concentrate on that point I guess it is improbable. She lost the scarf on the way, so? And directly afterwards Chandra was taken away for her execution, Pia had no way of getting there in time. Most likely she thought that Chandra was dead as well. I don't know, I'm much more sick of the "Dead Parents, child seeks revenge"-cliche to be honest.

Actually, it seems pretty simple. The villiage is attacked, chaos reigns, the Nalaar's are separated, and Pia loses her shawl in the confusion, but gets away. Chandra finds it, finds her dad, who's promptly killed because Baral's a jackass. Chandra's quickly arrested, taken back to Ghirapur for execution, Pia, even if she knows her daughter is alive and what happened to her, is hardly in a position to do anything about it without committing pointless suicide. Chandra's quickly "executed", she explodes, which i'm guessing the authorities figured was a natural conclusion to lopping off a pyromancer's head. Everyone assumes she's dead, and Pia goes back underground, without any true knowledge of what happened, only that she's going to make the Consulate pay.
No body = not dead. This is such a prevalent cliche, it's use is one of the most reliable ways of predicting plot developments. I'm not saying it's bad, it's just cliche.

nope Dovin may look like a strawman but he will be a hero of this story. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.
Just because they introduce a character and give them a card, does not mean they will feature prominently in the story. Just ask Arlinn.

So now we have "Husband and daughter are killed, wife seeks revenge, only to find out twelve years later that her daughter's really alive, and is actually one of hte most powerful entities of the Multiverse. This could be good.
As far as the "staged" nature of the Tezzeret's and Pia's confrontation, I think the poster's misreading it. First, Pia wasn't at teh scene, she'd moved away down a street. Now, keep in mind, she was probably trying to blend in with the crowd as she did so- one of hte first suspects in a disaster are the people who aren't moving with the natural flow of the crowd around them (this is part of how they caught the Boston Marathon Bombers). When Tezzeret started running, he wasn't running away from Chandra and Liliana as the two suspected- he was running AFTER Pia, and caught her just as Chandra and Lili caught him. So no, I don't think it's "staged". If the dialogue is off, its probably due to the writing, but I think it was intended as natrual.
I'm now somehow sure that Dovin Baan ain't the villain of this story.

I'm hoping they stick with this Monday/Wednesday two a week format for a bit. Means they can delve into more stories, both in the mainline and side plots. Despite the awesome plot twist, Eldritch Moon just seemed so rushed.

Simple story, but it's just setting the grounds for the actual story. I think with this and the last two all the build up is handled, and now we can see where it goes. All the major players should be known now.
