Well, there's natural Innistrad, Avacyn Innistrad, and present Innistrad. Only Avacyn Innistrad is reasonable enough to reluctantly inhabit. Just because it has seen better days than now doesn't make Innistrad safe or ideal at all. Nephalia is washed over by a tide of dead sailor's ghosts and houses mad scientists. The Moors are straight out of the worst Halloween nightmares. Graves are everywhere. Jace arrived and just trying to seek Lilliana got him chased by a gang of werewolves. Don't forget what Gisa and Geralf did to make short work of Thraben in Gavony, perhaps the most secure region even in Avacyn's absence as the seat of the church. Even with Avacyn demons like Ormendahl filled the void left by Griselbrand. And demons which are not sealed reform. It's an awful place to live all around. Even when there isn't cause for perpetual fear, there's perpetual fear. Either that, or insanity. Your choice.
The most horrifying position to be in is Tamiyo's at this point. If I saw Emrakul looming over the graves of a horror world under a giant silver moon like that I'd Planeswalk right the hell off Innistrad right then - or at least that would be my instinct. But like Tamiyo, I'm a curious Blue mage and instead would feel trapped. There's no way Tamiyo could leave now without knowing the fate of such a cosmic threat. She could never return comfortably to Kamigawa knowing such a thing, such phenomenon, is out there unchecked and could someday show up at her home. But if she remains, she's exposed to the absolute pits in terms of planes. Tamiyo has no choice but to wait for Jace and hope to survive and avoid corruption… There's no resting assured until Emrakul is at least sealed. There's no way to really feel secure after seeing what she has unfold. It must be even worse being oblivious plane-bound denizens who would never see such threats coming, or do anything about them. All the more reason to delight in being a walker.
Emrakul truly is like a hurricane. A phenomenon - a named one no less - simply serving its horrible but perhaps necessary function. But it's like hurricanes in the days before satellite and forecasts. A category 5 experience that simply arrives on the shores of a world and ends everything, just as heedless and those who could never know what was ever out at sea waiting for them.
You know, it dawned on me that in some way, Nahiri's actions actually may have saved Zendikar. The leyline trap had begun to falter just attempting to contain Ulamog and Kozilek, let alone also trying to manifest and trap Emrakul. Had the last and mightiest tian been there too, there's no telling what may have become of the plane. Sealing Emrakul on Innistrad may have done more than serve as vengeance, unbeknownst to her.
That just doesn't jive. Em left Zendikar in between ROE and BFZ. There's no evidence to suggest that Nahiri would have caused that. Ulamog and Kozilek are dead prior to SOI starting. Nahiri had given Zendikar up as lost. Nothing she has done on Innistrad benefited the gatewatch in any way.
I agree, but I think "pleasant" might be pushing it. All in all, though, I think it would be kinda cool to live on Innistrad. Normal Innistrad.
Yep. If I had to chose a plane to live on, it would be non-crisis Innistrad. While life might not be pink fluffy unicorns dancing on rainbows, it would be simple and basic. You control your own life, as opposed to having to deal with petty gods or warring clans.

I agree that pre-Dark Ascension Innistrad is probably the best option to live in. The worst of the demons are locked in the Helvault, and necromancers, werewolves, and everything else stay at the fringes of civilization. Yes, Nephalia is regularly swept by the Nebelgast, but considering the fact that there are three populous cities on the affected coast, it must be relatively benign. Gisa and Geralf did invade Thraben, but that was after Avacyn was locked in the Helvault. When Jace arrived in Innistrad, it was already being affected by Emrakul. She is driving werwolf activity off the charts, and causing dozens of other problems. The simple fact remains that under normal conditions, Innistrad sounds much worse than it actually is, or else, the plane simply wouldn't be inhabited.

What really bothers me is, why didn't Emrakul got in innistrad sooner? Was it so afraid of Avacyn? (I use "it" for Emrakul) How could Avacyn be a challenge to Emrakul? Or what protective effect, other than battlling them, could Avacyn have against monsters and extraplanar threats?
I think what made Avacyn unique instead of just a powerful angel is that she was kind of an avatar of the entire plane of Innistrad. As long as she was around - even if she was insane and murderous - her presence made it impossible for Emrakul to physically enter the plane and really mess things up. It was still drawn to the plane due to Nahiri's meddling, but was stuck floating right outside of it, causing all the lower-key madness and mutations in SOI. That's why when Sorin Anguished Unmaking'd Avacyn the ground immediately started shaking as Emrakul started to manifest.

In the Story articles they made Avacyn look like a mass destruction weapon, her spear basically a laser rocket launcher firing tactical nukes all over the place, perhaps she couldn't have stand a duel with Emrakul anyway; also, maybe Nahiri just wanted to make Sorin suffer even more by forcing him to kill his angel.
I'm guessing Avacyn just worked as a kind of buffer. Emrakul couldn't get "close" to Innistrad so long as Avacyn was around.
And Innistrad is easily near the bottom as far as planes go. It's above planes like Phyrexia and Grixis (shard of a plane, but comparable) when Avacyn is around but it seems pretty bad. Most other planes seem more "safe". Not sure where I would want to go but there are much better places than Innistrad for sure.
I don't think it had to do directly with Avacyn. Remember that the various wards created by Sorin to power Avacyn blocked Nahir's distress call basically it seems like there's a protective layer around Innistrad that Avacyn was the key to.

Key isn't quite the right term. Something more like a lynchpin, a single entity in which the layers of wards and enchantments were focused. You remove her, and the entire system unravels.

Do you suppose that Emrakul lingered near Innistrad already and Nahiri's actions were just nudging it in the right direction, or did she really lay out a path for it?
I think she did lay a path for it. During BFZ Drana drank an Eldrazi's essence and got the impression that Ulamog wanted to be somewhere else. I think that was Nahiri's cryptoliths calling them.
Come to think of it, the cryptoliths were probably inspired by Sorin's magic, which he used to lure the Eldrazi to Zendikar back then.

The cryptoliths are almost definitely the 'lure' portion of the former Hedron Network, manipulating leylines to attract Emrakul.
We get the sense from the initial sealing that Innistrad eouldny have been of much interest to the Eldrazi even if Sorin had offered it. Thus i don't imagine Em was just hanging about waiting for Nahiri to give the go.
Also the sense wasn't that eldrazi she abaorbed wanted to be elswhere just that it understood that there was an "other" place. A place that wasn't Zendikar.

Seriously, who came up with the words for this set? I mean, the horror atmosphere is largely fantastic (and Bruna, Gisela and Brisela are all terrifying), but after the whole 'this sounds really scary'mrakul' thing, they went with 'Brisela'...?
Well, here is the last artwork we will see of two of my favorite remaining angels.
You can see Emrakul peaking through the clouds behind them.

The flavour of leaked Dawn Gryff says, that there's an "after", after fighting, strongly suggesting the defeat of Emrakul. Guess that's it for the apocalyptic theories.
So not trying to complain here, but does anyone else get the feeling that the push towards Cosmic horror the Creative team keeps talking about for this set means we actually won't get the tribal support we were promised for Zombies, Werewolves, Vampires and Spirits? I could be wrong and it's early for spoiler season - VERY early - but so much is going on in this set already I don't see how they can fit tribal support in. I just feel like they shoved it to the side for Cosmic horror.
Like I said, not trying to complain here, just curious if anyone else is worried about that, especially after in the video Jenna claims the plane will forever change based on Emrakul's presence. Which worries me further that Magic just killed off its only true Gothic Horror world. At least Zendikar will likely heal, albeit slowly.

This isn't really the place, but I DO think we'll see the promised tribal support. Circling back to the flavor side, just look at the non-Eldrazi art that's been spoiled. It's pretty clear geists are going to play a major role (Blessed Alliance) as are Zombies (Cemetary Recruitment).

i hope not. I rather hope that Emrakrl gets bored and just decides to float away somewhere else. Ever lurking. Besides, we haven't have her turn into a planeswalker yet.

Indeed. These seem two be the only two tribes that aren't affected by Emrakul's presence, being not live biological matter and all that.

Yeah, sorry about the placing. Kind of a general feeling about spoilers that concerned me for flavor reasons as well, so wasn't sure. Apologies on the wrong placing.

The most horrifying position to be in is Tamiyo's at this point.
