Thank you, not everything has to be a freaking forced relationships. Feels like every 7-8 articles they're shoe-horning something in. Jace can't appreciate giddeon as a friend with a unique skill set, there has to be a lust filled attraction too?
The need for 'shipping' that is running rampant kind of disgusts me.
I think those are quite strong words. To be "disgusted" by the fanbase appreciating deeper relationships between characters, and an insight into the the mind of characters and their thoughts and feelings towards other characters? I mean, this is the internet and this is all a fictional story, but I'd like you consider how what you just said would sound if you uttered that out in the "real world". People would assume you had ASPD.
Ultimately, we're all fans of the same story. I think it's uncalled for to insinuate that other fans of the story "disgust you". But that's just me.
It's ridiculous how negative this forum it. New content from Wizards? People literally start vomiting from their hatred of it.
I've noticed that as well. I'm personally psyched for both Eldritch Moon and Kaladesh, it seems like it'll be a great year for the lore.
I'm all for lore and I'm all for organic relationships. Lately it's reeked of fan fiction shallow flash fire love scenes. That's what bothers me, and people pushing for crap in every nook and cranny of the store. Every character doesn't need a love interest in a setting of strife and war.
Man, I seriously hope this set is not going to be 'Liliana effortlessly kicks Emrakul's ass on her own because she's just that amazing and pretty and sexy'. That already sucked when they did it to Griselbrand, this time more interesting characters like Sorin and Tamiyo better get an actually important role to play as well, not just fending off the surprise return of Tibalt...
That said, I'm really digging the artwork for Emrakul and her angels and all the other mutations. Looks creepy as hell and I love Innistrad's transformation from Zombie horror to Lovecraft horror. The Eldrazi fit that plane way better than they ever did Zendikar, come to think of it.
The trailer. I genuinely thought they'd never match the Theros trailers, but this one is truly on par if not superior. Newfound Lilliana respect. I may be unable to stand her, but that's just badass. I LOVE IT!
Emrakul's art is amazing, awe-inspiring and haunting all at once. The effects I've discussed in the appropriate thread - but I found them disappointing.
We got a Magic Story on a MONDAY? I didn't know we were getting one! YESSSSSSS! Going to go read now!
As much as I detest the Eldrazi and everything they've done to both the story and the game, this had me cautiously optimistic. If they can keep this up and not descend into BFZ 2.0, it'll go a long way to redeeming the whole concept of the Eldrazi (can't fix the gameplay issues, but that's for a different thread).

The Meaning of Life: "M-hmm. Well, it's nothing very special. Uh, try and be nice to people, avoid eating fat, read a good book every now and then, get some walking in, and try and live together in peace and harmony with people of all creeds and nations"
Onering's 4 simple steps that let you solve any problem with Magic's gameplay
Whether its blue players countering your spells, red players burning you out, or combo, if you have a problem with an aspect of Magic's gameplay, you can fix it!
Step 1: Identify the problem. What aspect of Magic don't you like? Step 2: Find out how others deal with the problem. How do players deal with this aspect of the game when they run into it? Step 3: Do what those players do. Step 4: No more problem. Bonus: You are now better at Magic. Enjoy those extra wins!
It's ridiculous how negative this forum it. New content from Wizards? People literally start vomiting from their hatred of it.
I can't help but express my negativity right now. I'm sure I'll come down off this frustration I'm feeling eventually tho. Ulamog and Kozilek practically getting embarrassed to death, Sorin reaching newfound levels of stupidity with his possible death and possibly (another) upstaging by Liliana on his own plane, Avacyn dying a failure, Nahiri losing all credibility and her possible death, Gisela and Bruna turning into a Resident Evil monster. So many of the creatures I liked just getting offed in the most flaccid way possible, and the central conflict is "Bad Decision Making: The Apocalypse" that'll probably have the ending of a bad comic book story.
I slogged through Zendikar, and I was really enjoying myself through Shadows despite some sketchy writing, and despite the writing all but being on the wall for Emrakul I was really enjoying the mystery of it all. Though with us behind the curtain now and the mystery done I can't help but feel deflated a little, Emrakul's new card being very underwhelming probably didn't help there either.
I'm rambling. I'm out of gas. I think Kaladesh will be a welcome change once it comes, since it's a fresh new plane with new characters. I'm pretty sure most of my frustration comes from being an angel fan, and being attached to Innistrad's characters from nostalgia. Maybe my point of view will change after this all settles.
Story is up, and it was kinda cool (minus the "___'mrakul" everyone is saying) up until Jace's PoV...which made me want to vomit. Looking into Emrakul's mind and hearing her voice? Immediately meeting up with the Gatewatch? I went from super hyped after the trailer to super frustrated after the story.
Oh no, the return of the Jacewatch... too soon!! Way too soon. And the trailer seems to show Liliana fighting the true enemy, Emrakul. So with the fifth and black Planeswalker in this battle, we have the complete colorwheel, and Jacewatch of five? Or is Liliana fighter someone else? Nahiri, Sorin and Olivia, or Jacewatch?! Hmmm.
Someone mentioned that putting SoI before BFZ would have done much for the build-up of the Eldrazi threat. I'm personally stoked for Eldrazi, though I must agree that BFZ ended quite anti-climatically.
I think BFZ had later development timing issues. If it had a third set Emrakul would have been there.
Really creepy. Especially the Bruna and Gisela part. Just when one thought Innistrad couldn't be scarier. It is now truly the complete Horror plane. Gothic Horror meets Eldritch Horror. Grixis tried, but Innistrad is the complete Horror world. How Zendikar managed to lose only two continents baffles me considering how Emrakul has already made short work of this whole plane.
I can't imagine seeing Emrakul on the horizon of a Horror world like Innistrad either, looming ominously under that silver moon.
My favorite part of the story was the inquisitive way Tamiyo thinks, even regarding Emrakul. She literally wonders about the same things I have long before the SOI story - "Emrakul, I wonder if that's what she calls herself?" And "Interesting that such a thing could have a name" - two things I've said on this very forum in the past, even. Her serenity and composure, her curiosity and command over intellect make her truly the perfect Blue character. Damn I love Tamiyo. Then again, she's my second favorite Planeswalker after Jace, but quickly tying with him!
"We will all be where we need to be" - this better not mean Tamiyo will Planeswalk away and we get no card for her.
The art of Tamiyo holding her lantern up in the dark, and the scene of Lilliana holding her arms up while facing Emrakul - PLEASE let these be on cards.
With all these characters dying and changing, seeing Jenrik as a card isn't just not happening, but even his death feels anti-clamatic now (but still very disappointing for me personally). I don't think he will be in EMN and that's fine, this whole world looks like it's going to hell anyway tbh. But I'm sure Emrakul will be only sealed, not defeated. And Maro confirmed, basically, that things get better.
Lastly - Did Jace read Emrakul's mind? If so, YES! But not what I expected as a response.
Hey everybody, I just saw somebody noticing that neo-Sigarda protects you from neo-Em.
Confirmed?!
Yeah, it's a nice bit of flavor. Sigarda gives you Hexproof, so you can't be Mindslavered by Emrakul.
Do you still get the extra turn or is the whole thing countered? Sigarda would be a devastating shield against Emrakul, if it means your opponent timewalked themself by casting it.
Reading this story, a thought occured to me. What if the only reason the Gatewatch managed to kill Ulamog and Kozilek is because they'd been separated from Emrakul? I'm not talking power level - I mean that when they're together it's virtually impossible to accomplish, because they cover each other's weaknesses. Emrakul would have mentally warped the Gatewatch and made them part of the Eldrazi posse.
Gisela-Bruna might be a eldrazi fligher. I assume white is gonna be dropped Too bad though, i hoped to see them differently in the set, like in one piece.

Valid thinking. I didn't consider this, but you may have a point here. I also think they had the advantage of Zendikar, the prior preparations of the Oldwalkers, and Nissa's connection. There was a theory raised that Ermakul was the first and original mother titan, and created Ulamog and Kozilek - that they are in fact members of her lineage that acquired enough power by consuming mana to become a titan like her. Regardless, it seems Emrakul can act independently of them, but perhaps not the other way around.

I would love to see Edritch Moon end with Emrakul "resurrecting" Ulamog and Kozilek, leaving the Gatewatch scrambling to figure out what to do, and perhaps leaving the Eldrazi alone for a few more years.
Gisela-Bruna might be a eldrazi fligher. I assume white is gonna be dropped Too bad though, i hoped to see them differently in the set, like in one piece.
Why? She's only appeared in what? One story? And already corrupted at that?
Warning: Rant ahead.
That's exactly the point. Creative is still clueless as to what it means to kill off a character. They're probably patting themselves on the back right now, saying "Oh hey, we killed off a B-list character, awesome job on making the story meaningful buys, blah blah blah." That's not how it works.
Character deaths, especially protagonist deaths, are supposed to be very meaningful events. I mean, someone just died. But the thing is, you can't just kill off some random extra. Your audience won't even blink when you kill random redshirt #3. They're not invested in the character at all, so they can't possibly mourn their death. There's no emotional weight to it, it just happened. The audience needs to empathize with the character in question. They need to relate to the character, feel like they know the character, so that when they do die, it actually means something to them. Boromir's death meant something because he was a beautifully flawed character who died protecting others. That's good storytelling. Elspeth's death meant something because she was the hero of her story, and the worst thing possible happened to her, just when things were looking up for her crapsack life. Han Solo's death meant something, because he was a beloved hero for an entire generation. These character's deaths all mattered because we knew who the characters were, so when they paid the ultimate price, it felt like something important just happened. Furthermore, it raises the stakes for the rest of the characters, because now we know that they're not invincible, and that their quest might actually destroy them.
Creative on the other hand, seems to have forgotten completely about this. We've asked for more character deaths, and they've completely missed the point. We weren't asking them to kill off their entire supporting cast, we were asking them to kill off one of the main characters, so that the rest of the story actually means something. How can Bruna and Gisela's death mean something if we didn't know who they were? They didn't really even die, since they weren't alive in the first place. They had potential to be good, rich characters. Four sisters, with diverse personalities and outlooks on life, protecting a plane from countless horrors? That sounds like a fun story. But no, we knew nothing about them, no characterization, no backstory, no personalities. They were just bland filler characters, which makes their deaths, and pretty much their whole existence, meaningless.
All this is so bad for us, because our relationship with the minor characters is vastly different from everyone else. Wizards must know that including a diverse cast of minor characters helps their game resonate more with the audience. The more enfranchised fans, especially the vorthos, latch on to these characters. Maybe, the main characters aren't really working for us. That's okay, since there are other characters out there that we can relate to. We get a hint that these three angels aren't just filler cards, there's something to them. A fourth sister who made a pact with demons? Really? Are you going to bring the fourth one back? What will they think when that happens - oh wait, two of them are dead. A reclusive wizard, studying the silver moon? Hey, the next set is called Eldritch Moon! He must have something to do with that - oh wait, he's dead. We don't want the secondary characters to die, we want them to get characterization. Wizards just goes to a plane, kill off half the population, then carry on like nothing happened, because for the main characters, nothing did. How is the conflict relevant to us, when it isn't relevant to the main characters?
I just don't know anymore. I was more than willing to give Wizards the doubt. Maybe BfZ was just growing pains. I still am, since we don't know the full Eldritch Moon story yet, but let me tell you , things are not looking good. Except for the death of the two titans, BfZ was actually a pretty fun story, in a campy, cheesy kind of way. However, with that Jace point of view, it looks like Creative is just looking to repeat everything wrong with BfZ. I've been a staunch defender of Wizards so far, but enough is enough. Yes, it's just a stupid story for a stupid card game, but that somehow makes less entitled to a good, fun plot? The people who post here, we make up the core of the community. We give our time, devotion, and money to Wizards. But screw that, we should be lucky to have a story in the first place. At this point, I'd rather we didn't. They can't loose so epicly if they don't play. I might just start writing my own version of how I think the story should go, and ignore Creative's half-hearted attempts.
Anayway, does anyone want to start speculating on what the rest of our legendarily will be? Bruna and Gisela, Product of Bad Storytelling? Hal and Alena, Awkwardly Written but Still Kinda Cute Lesbians?

With one line, Wizards has made me angrier than anything they have put out lately. I could stand Avacyn dying. I could stand the Eldrazi Winter. I could stand the Jacetice League's adventures and stuff. I could even stand the possibility we're going to lose Innistrad.
But them killing off Gisela by having her fuse with Bruna as an angel for Emrakul is where I draw the line. I am honestly very salty at the moment.
Yep. I know exactly what you mean.
I think they did this to highlight just how much Innistrad is getting screwed over, and rapidly, by demonstrating that many of the familiar things we once knew and admired about Innistrad are changing for the worst. The story is playing out like a movie, where the villain appears and everything we've grown accustomed to is being warped instantly in an overwhelming domino effect that makes it all feel hopeless and catastrophic for the protagonists.
So Emrakul had the actual power to warp minds and cause madness? I thought that was Kozilek's thing
Well, I've gotta say that Emrakul now has like A LOT of chances of being offed by the Gatewatch + Sorin + Liliana, it wouldn't be so bad for the story to have her actually RUNNING AWAY if she gets defeated as effin' Ugin has warned everybody like a thousand times before.
Nahiri is pretty much guaranteed to die by the end of this story or even before, maybe she won't even live long enough to speak two words to Sorin before he snaps his fingers and turns her into ashes, it would be fine if the Gatewatch told her that Zendikar is alive and that Kozilek and Ulamog are dead, so maybe she'll get a sort of redemption by death using the silver moon as a sort of Mega-Helvault to trap Emrakul there.
And, it would be goddamn awesome if we finally get an ACTUAL Eldrazi Conscription (Emphasis on Conscription) card which takes your opponent's stuff and puts it under YOUR control, because even those Eldrazi that killed one oppossing creature and gave you one never filled that flavor part, and the most mind-control Kozilek's cards had were just two cards that didn't even get you permanent control of the creature.
Also, why no hexproof on Emrakul 2.0? Wasn't that what Bonds of Mortality hinted?
Why? She's only appeared in what? One story? And already corrupted at that?

So you're angry because they killed off minor characters you were attached to, and you're complaining because no one was attached to them?
People get attached to minor characters all the time, especially in Magic because legendary creatures come with cards and people start using them in their decks. Even if Gisela and Bruna barely appeared in the story, I'm sure there are many people out there who loved playing with their cards and are suitably horrified at what happened to them.
I'm all for lore and I'm all for organic relationships. Lately it's reeked of fan fiction shallow flash fire love scenes. That's what bothers me, and people pushing for crap in every nook and cranny of the store. Every character doesn't need a love interest in a setting of strife and war.

Hey Jenrik, want to go get a drink somewhere? We can commiserate about how creative hates us and all our favorite characters.

So you're angry because they killed off minor characters you were attached to, and you're complaining because no one was attached to them?
People get attached to minor characters all the time, especially in Magic because legendary creatures come with cards and people start using them in their decks. Even if Gisela and Bruna barely appeared in the story, I'm sure there are many people out there who loved playing with their cards and are suitably horrified at what happened to them.
