I'm just confused on Gideon saying he was "new" in Ravnica. Wasn't he fighting for the Boros for a while (During the BFZ storyline?)
Fighting as a soldier for the Boros is pretty different from performing an investigation on behalf of the Azorius, I'd imagine. Also he was turning on the charm for Lavinia, so maybe he exaggerated a little.
The content of the story was good but the writing was awful. I constantly had trouble identifying who was speaking and about whom. It was a really confusing read. Glad that this isn't going to be so much Gatewatch saves the day as Lili and Chandra are having a girl's day and get pulled into a mess and mama Nissa goes after them to try and keep them from doing something stupid. you people should be happy, no Jace. At least so it seems.
Woo, possible Nissa/Chandra ship? Or just Chani being Chani, but I'd take the shipping if possible...
In other news: Yes, the Kaladesh art looks amazing.
Also: We recently got a black Pirate in Conspiracy. Return of the Pirate creature type for the black side of Kaladesh?

So if we assume Chandra is red, and Dovin and Saheeli are some combo of Jeskai colors between them, anyone else see that BG is wide open.....in a block with Liliana tagging along mostly as a secondary character? Maybe it's just me, but boy does this seem like a good opening for Garruk to show up and wreck some things. Especially after Jace just set up a minor tracking network for the Gatewatch. Might be time for the Big Game Hunter to go after his main target.

EDH - Yes, Each One is Named After a Song. I love tying music to my decks.

I'm intrigued by the story direction. I wasn't expecting the plot to progress like it has, and it seems like we'll be having the first inter-gatewatch conflict.
Also: I'm curious to see what Nissa can learn form Kaladesh's elves.
I'm still annoyed they HAVE elves, and vedalken, rather than some of the more South Asian themed races, but whatever. I'm looking at it as an opportunity to rework Mirrodin/Esper from scratch, with a South Asian veneer.

Yeah, the use of elves and Vedalken felt off to me too. I get that Vedalken are usually tied to artifact-heavy worlds, but I was hoping for Naga or something. Your layout of walker colors makes perfect sense too, Jay.

It really does say a lot about the world and the consul that every single page on the Kaladesh site has a warning or message from the consul following it.

the music for the Kaladesh page has helped me get excited for this world. I'm ordinarily abzan but I won't lie-
The Swamps, forests and mountains look beautiful in Kaladesh.
I'm half expecting Karn to make an appearance.
It is easy to appreciate how nuanced the conflict is in this block, at least far. Even knowing what we know about the Consulate, it's hard not to get swept up in the magnanimity of their vision. We cheer for Chandra and her eventual facing the past and possibly the consulate for it's actions but something tells me Lilliana might be a bad or volatile influence on her behavior. Those two gals know how to make an entrance....
I would not want to be part of any security or safety detail in their general vicinity.

I agree that the content of the story was good but it there were definitely parts where it wasn't written well and I often couldn't tell who was talking because too many pronouns were used. But the interactions were interesting, the reference to Vraska was nice, and Jace's huge amount of paperwork and Lavinia being annoyed with his absence was good to see (a lot of people predicted almost exactly that happening to Jace).
I also would have liked to have seen Naga over elves and/or vedalken. I'm more forgiving of the vedalken's presence, since they are very closely related to artifacts and have not appeared on many planes. Elves on the other hand have been greatly overused and have no business appearing on a South Asian artifact plane. Naga would also help to differentiate Kaladesh from Mirrodin, which also had elves, vedalken, and an artifact theme. I suppose that the dwarves and gremlins could take care of that instead, but I would have much rather have had Naga. It also would have justified them getting their own creature type in KTK if they were going to reappear on another plane.
Other than that, however, Kaladesh looks great and I am excited to see where the story goes.
I agree with the others that Naga should have been the G characteristic race for Kaladesh. I mean sure, our main exposure to them was in Sultai/Silumgar (which was BUG in order), but considering that they are closely related to snakes and at the same time have relatively less association to "death" than Gorgons (which more or less have a BG alignment), I'll say Naga are the G race with the sequence of GBURW, which is a unique take since their closest secondary colors are enemy colors to their main.
I'm also okay with the Vedalken being the U characertistic, because Kaladesh does have a artifice theme together with a "law and order" presence, like Esper and I don't really think Merfolk fit that structural mold quite as well.
What's really refreshing about Kaladesh is that it looks set going to be "It's a Gatewatch Internal problem and they ended up having to clean Kaladesh's internal mess because both their messes got intertwined, but ultimately they're both internal problems", which is a fresh breath after ELDRAZI ELDRAZI WORLDS BREAK EXISTENCE IS POINTLESS (as much as I still like the concept of the Eldrazi, am still annoyed that UlaKozi is gone and glad Emrakul cleaned up that mess partially).
Just guessing: I think the story will start with the Gatewatch going on a mission for Dovin, discover he is the true enemy as soon as they meet the rebellion where Chandra's parents turn out to be alive and leading the rebellion. The Gatewatch joins the rebellion in their fight against the consuls, who want to keep all Aether related science firmly under their, and only their control so they can remain the ruling class uncontested. Saheeli, being partly red too is turned to the rebellion. Somewhere in all this, Tezzeret appears on the science fair as well, looking for planar transport technology so New Phyrexia can start planehopping again. The Gatewatch, with or without Saheeli's aid, unconsciously helps him while doing what they do and in the end Karn appears, to late, in informs the gatewhatch of the possible ramifications. Enter next block.
Also, with the way Jace said he got the word out about the Gatewatch, I could not help bu think "If you have a problem and no one else can help. If you can find them, maybe you can hire.. The Gatewatch!" *Start A-Team theme*

Chandra goes with what her heart tells her(meaning she's probably pan/bi). Nissa is lesbian though, I'm guessing.

That's not the point. The point is that Kaladesh and Esper are already very close aesthetically. Filigree, ather-made metal, technocracy etc. Every additional detail that is shared between Esper and Kaladesh just blurs the line even further.

Kaladesh doesn't seem to have the same culture. Its much brighter. The primary colors in the art are red and gold rather than blue and white. I get where you're coming from but it seems like an anti-Esper in many ways.
