Avacyn was trapped inside the Helvault. They were halves of each other. One a prison made of moon silver, the other an entity/Angel.
The Eldritch Moon is made entirely of Moon Silver it would be another "other half". It is a prison for the other "other half", Emrakul an entity/Titan that may or may not have been an angel at one time.
Tamiyo is a Moon Sage. Jace is chasing Tamiyo's clues. All these clues lead to a near obvious answer.
… oh and will there be another Planeswalker locked inside the Eldritch Moon with Emrakul, to complete the story symmetry. Is it Tamiyo?
I gotta say, all signs point to a return of Emrakul.

The way I figure it, Sorin made a two part system to protect Innistrad: The Helvault, a prison made of moon silver capable of locking away even old Walkers, and Avacyn, a constant warden to fight unruly visitors and lock them away.
Do we get the 3rd and Final part of this story on Monday the 20th?

Your stream of consciousness post here is very confusing. The moon isn't the "other other half" of anything. If it is a prison, Sorin did not make it. And Emrakul definitely wouldn't be in it, as it was there 1000 years (or so) BEFORE the Eldrazi escaped on Zendikar. And Tamiyo wouldn't be inside of it, as she is there in the present day with Jace and Sorin.
If anything, today's story was possibly the first sign that it isn't Emrakul. Of course, that's assuming the idea of the moon itself being a giant prison ever occurred to anyone at Wizards. They'll probably get these responses saying as much about the moon, and say something like "Oh, that would've been cool, but no. It's Emrakul."
If anything, today's story was possibly the first sign that it isn't Emrakul.
How so?
All the signs point to Emrakul. Nahiri is looking to punish Sorin as he let the Eldrazi ruin her world. Fitting justice for her would be to let Emrakul destroy Innistrad.
Also where is Tamiyo? Still there with Jace? Or has she left already.
The evidence points to Emrakul. Wizards very well may want it that way only to pull a switcheroo. But the natural outcome is that Nahiri would want Innistrad ruined by an Eldrazi, just as hers was ruined. Predicting other outcomes may in the long run be correct, but odds are on Emrakul. Emrakul should be seen as the "prime suspect". You work through the list of most likely and then get down to the less likely. That's how investigation works. As I've brought up before, Wizards was most likely going to introduce Emrakul in the third and final set of the return to Zendikar block. One titan for each block. They won't admit it, but that is how it was conceived I believe. I look at this as a chance to let them finish the Eldrazi story as well. Too many signs in my book to think anything else. If it is not Emrakul, we are going to need a lot of explanation. Guess we will get a little bit more on the 20th.

No the eldritch moon is the invisible moon above drownyard temple. The moon of innistrad is not (from what we know) the eldritch moon.
So Innistrad has 2 moons. One real and tangible(and made of Moon Silver) and one magical/ethereal? I need to catch up on my reading could you link this for me?

Today's story seems to have removed any possibility of the big bad being anything other than Emrakul.
Really? Myself, I thought it gave a whopping moon-sized possibility that it's NOT Emrakul.
I can't read this any other way.
Then the Zendikar she knew was dead. There was no saving it. One might as well try to stop the sun in the sky. She closed her eyes and saw her Zendikar, Zendikar as it had been. The world she had let Sorin Markov destroy. Hot tears of rage ran down her face and landed in that awful dust with a hiss.
"As Zendikar has bled, so will Innistrad."
She opened her eyes and looked down at her hands, at hands that had shaped stone and trapped titans. They were covered in gray dust.
"As I have wept, so will Sorin."
She looked up at the thing on the horizon, watching it move across the landscape like a natural disaster.
"This I swear, on the ashes of my world."
Also, it seemed interesting to me how they went out of their way to have her comparing the Helvault to a hedron.
In retrospect, it feels like they were using her innate comparison of the two as a way to seed the idea that she could use the moon silver to draw Emrakul to Innistrad.

Thank you. That is how I interpreted it as well. Compelling evidence for sure.
As a side note. I liked how she guessed 8 faces, maybe 7. A little shout out to Griselbrand maybe? 8 cmc and 7 power/toughness/life/cards. Yep I know that one is stretching it.

The term "eldritch moon" was coined by Tamiyo in her journal, in a passage that Jace reads while investigating the drownyard temple that all the cryptoliths lead to:
Taken in total, the findings presented in this work support the presence of an object of significant mass. Most likely a new astral body, an eldritch moon of sufficient size as to provide a gravitational pull able to disrupt the normal patterns of both the tides and magical energy.
You can read the story for the more detailed version (IMO Tamiyo's journal entries are great and make that story well worth reading), but in short the "Eldritch Moon" is a newly-appeared, huge, invisible object, perhaps not really "there" in a physical sense, hovering over the drownyard temple off the coast of Nephalia and exerting an influence on the plane.
This is distinct from the "Heron Moon," Innistrad's regular silver moon (so-called because it has markings that suggest a heron, kind of like the "man in the moon" for earth's moon).
Okay, thank you all. I find this of further evidence that indeed this Eldritch Moon very well could be Emrakul distorting gravity with her mass and/or her innate time and gravity warping abilities.
And yes I understand the significance of 8 sides and the 8 sided Hedrons. I just found it interesting that Nahiri said the Helvault had "maybe 7" sides depending on how you looked at it. I'm not saying Griselbrand has anything to do with it, just an interesting coincidence that his card has a lot of "7"'s on it while his cmc is indeed 8.
Possibly instead of Emrakul being trapped inside the Heron Moon, Emrakul shows up (through Nahiri's machinations), wreaks havoc and Jace and Tamiyo use Sorin's sword to trap Emrakul inside the Heron Moon (made of Moon Silver). I'm also going to have to revive my guess on what the front side of a flip Emrakul card would be. I've been going with Legendary Artifact Land. I'm going to have to go with Legendary Enchantment now. And it ties in with Nahiri, the Harbinger second ability as well. Although I have a feeling the front side "Eldritch Moon" will be Indestructible.
If Wizards goes with anything other than Emmy, its going to be way out of left field. Plausible but not practical.

She wants revenge on Sorin. I get that, I do. And using Emrakul to do it would certainly be poetic justice. I get that too. And I understand the comparisons made in today's chapter. But I also took away from the chapter, perhaps unintended, the inference that the Silver Moon might *also* already be a prison for something. Nahiri could, conceivably, be looking to free whatever is trapped inside it, and the release of something that huge/powerful is what's warping things.
It's entirely possible that I'm just seeing things that aren't there. And it would probably be bad at this point to add another big bad to the mix, when they already have Bolas, Emrakul, the Chain Veil, and whoever else to deal with. But the thing is, truly... Emrakul is just boring. As exciting as it would be card-wise, it's a two-dimensional threat of a character. It exists to destroy, there's no depth to it. It's Galactus without the charm. I really want it to be something that isn't Emrakul, because that would at least be interesting from a story perspective, especially when whatever plan Nahiri might have to deal specifically with Emrakul backfires when she learns she's accidentally summoned something she didn't expect. So yeah, I'm going into this with a bias, I admit that. Because I'd prefer my villains to not be mindless cosmic engines of destruction.
But the thing is, truly... Emrakul is just boring.
That is an opinion and not fact. So hence it is only true to yourself and others that "feel" that way. Put on the cold objective hat of the sleuth or the scientist to get down to the facts and details. Don't let your feelings cloud a judgement.
Now I do believe your thoughts of something being trapped inside the Heron Moon theory has some logic and merit. What if Emrakul is trapped or hiding inside and projecting herself out of the Heron Moon and it manifests as the Eldritch Moon? I believe Liliana was who released those within the Helvault, we know she plays a central role in upcoming EM. Maybe she will release Emmy trapped inside the Heron Moon? I also find another tasty story flavor twist in that Heron and Hedron are nearly identical words separated by one letter. Both "trapping" powerful characters. Eldritch Moon and Emrakul also have a lot of things in common grammatically as well. It just seems far too rich and ripe not to work on those angles and just bring some weird plot twist villain out of nowhere. Again, it could happen but most of the signs point to Emmy.

I'm confused by the Emrakul is "in" the moon theory, at least if it's predicated on the 5 legged shrew tidbit. The heron-shrew moon outdates Emrakul's very recent escape. If anything, today's story's demonstration of the moon's binding abilities leads me to believe it could be keeping Innistrad's Cthulhu/Stromkirk sea god dormant since before Sorin, Runo, Olivia et al ever even drank the angel's blood to become fangers. Whether or not Emrakul is coming, there's something else down there that's preparing to resurface imo. C'Thulhu-esque creature + R'lyeh temple artifact being harbringer-ed?

I think the clear implication being made in The Drownyard Temple, where the idea of the new "Eldritch Moon" was introduced, is that Emrakul is the Eldritch Moon. That is, the "new astral body" that Tamiyo deduced was distorting the tides and mana of Innistrad, the mysterious "Object" that Jace sensed over the drownyard, is Emrakul herself, just not yet visible because she hasn't yet entered the plane.
The Heron Moon is, I think, just the moon, doing what moons do (in addition to apparently being made of silver with magical properties). It may end up being the prison for something before the block is over, like a new, giant Helvault, but I don't think we've seen a compelling reason to think there's anything trapped in there already.
As I've brought up before, Wizards was most likely going to introduce Emrakul in the third and final set of the return to Zendikar block. One titan for each block. Umm, I'm not sure if you know but this idea originally floated about on these forums because they did admit it on Maro's blog
theopholus42 asked: If Battle for Zendikar was Ulamog's set, and Oath is Kozilek's set, and you switched to the 2-block paradigm midway through design, was the original plan that the third set would be Emrakul's? And do you think we'll see her in the near future?
I'm also going to have to revive my guess on what the front side of a flip Emrakul card would be. I've been going with Legendary Artifact Land. I'm going to have to go with Legendary Enchantment now. Id guess that the front side be an artifact, so she will be able to tutor. The very least a generic creature, maybe one with an ETB ability. If said creature is to be a DFC than I suppose the ETB ability could trigger it to flip and reveal a far worse than anticipated creature. works well with Nahiri, however id still prefer to not see Emerakul at all.. But based on Nahiri's card... her ultimate has yet to really be utilized since the perevious eldrazi have a when casted from hand effect, I would think that to spend so much on loyalty that there would be a worthwhile ETB target.

Perhaps an artifact for Nahiri to harbor that taps to exile some creatures.... so Nahiri and sorin kiss and make up..... in return she becomes inistrads protector using her magic to banish harm from Innistrad

Thank you. I didn't catch that earlier. More concrete evidence then, not my conjecture.
Id guess that the front side be an artifact, so she will be able to tutor.
Good point again. Now I'm waffling back and forth. She indeed is the Harbinger. It appears she is trying to lure Emrakul onto Innistrad via the cryptoliths and Drownyard Temple. I guess my problem is that the Eldritch Moon, the magical pre-manifestation of Emrakul, seems to be an enchantment and not an artifact itself. The Temple I can see being an artifact. But an invisible, gravity bending, eldritch entity seems like an enchantment to me flavor wise. Guess we will find out soon.
As a side note and maybe this has been pointed out before. I count 22 cryptoliths on the Drownyard Temple. Wonder if this has any significance? Emrakul at 22/22 ??? Seems unlikely.

IMO, just because EM is described as an eldritch moon and occupying a space above Innistrad near the Heron Moon, doesn't mean that she's suddenly an artifact. As far as we know, EM is not bound yet, and is banging away at the wards around Innistrad, with her essence already seeping into the plane. To me, she's sounding more like a cosmic amoeba that's engulfing the plane and her 'nucleus' is the focal point for the gravity shifts, the thing that is distorting the Heron Moon's orbit and the tides on Innistrad. This is why it doesn't make sense to me that EM would be a DFC with an artifact front-side.
And to fit with Nahiri's ultimate, EM should be designed like Ulamog to have both a cast and attack trigger. The attack trigger would need to be on par with the cast trigger to make it worth Nahiri's ultimate, with the benefit of casting EM later.

I'm not sure why some people are saying Emrakul is trapped in the Heron Moon. I think *something* is trapped inside of it, but it's definitely not Emrakul.

8 sides, like a hedron
You can read the story for the more detailed version (IMO Tamiyo's journal entries are great and make that story well worth reading), but in short the "Eldritch Moon" is a newly-appeared, huge, invisible object, perhaps not really "there" in a physical sense, hovering over the drownyard temple off the coast of Nephalia and exerting an influence on the plane.
This is distinct from the "Heron Moon," Innistrad's regular silver moon (so-called because it has markings that suggest a heron, kind of like the "man in the moon" for earth's moon).

The Heron Moon is, I think, just the moon, doing what moons do (in addition to apparently being made of silver with magical properties). It may end up being the prison for something before the block is over, like a new, giant Helvault, but I don't think we've seen a compelling reason to think there's anything trapped in there already.
