So, I got wondering for purposes that are not important, about the status of Djinn (and to a degree efreet) could have sparks? This question is mostly targeted to the tarkir Djinn as well as spills over to the ravnica human/Djinn crossbreeds. Was just a curiosity.
I believe, and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, that the only requirements for possibly possessing a Planeswalker spark is to be a natural born member of a sapient species. No artificial life forms, this typically includes artifact creatures*, Angels, Demons** and/or Elementals, and possibly others that I can't think of off the top of my head.
Djinn are obviously sapient, which just leaves the question as to whether or not they procreate. This could well vary between planes, and honestly I have no idea if Tarkir's Djinn do or not.
*Karn being the exception, and even his Spark was originally from a natural source.
**Ob Nixilis may look like a demon, but he is/was originally a human.
A soul. A soul is what's required. That's all we know. If the Djinn and Efreet have would then they can bare a spark. Thus the undead and artificial creatures like angels or golems (with the exception of Karn who was given Urza's spark, have that up to seal a time rift, then was given Venser's spark) cannot have them.
I couldn't remember if tarkir Djinn breed. I know ravnica's do, as human/Djinn hybrids exist. I just wasn't sure if they were all natural born.
I don't think most of them are. The Tarkir Djinn seem to be, but all of the other Djinn we've seen are very different, more like spirits, than the Tarkir Djinn.
I used to think Djinn were more like spirits too, since that just seemed intuitive to me, but Tarkir shows that they're physical biological beings. At the very least, the Djinn on Tarkir are definitely organic lifeforms. If they're alive enough for there to be Djinn zombies, they're alive enough for there to be Djinn Planeswalkers.
What even are the Tarkir Djinn. They just seem to be blue-skinned people who can sometimes fly. I would be interested to learn more about the cultures of new Tarkir.

Yeah. The Ravnica djinni seem to be mostly elemental based (Illuminatus, Tidespout Tyrant, the djinn in Guildpact novel). The Rabiah/Jamuraa djinni, on the other hand, are more like the traditional spirits.
The Tarkir djinni are purely biological beings, that you can even zombify. They are djinni essentially only by name, they might as well be called by any thought-up name.
Sadly, the Tarkir djinni were never addressed more in-depth in any of the PW guides.
I second the notion that if they can be zombified, they can have walker spark.

Do we know what role the djinn play in Tarkir? Just looking at my cards, it seems that the djinn are something like the lorekeepers of Tarkir - and it makes you wonder what they had to lose when the dragons returned in Fate Reforged. I can't imagine Ojutai would have put up with the djiin hording knowledge, preventing Ojutai from rewritting whatever she wanted to.

Monastery Loremaster seems to indicate they still fill that role. I imagine they act more like Librarians.
TBF, I think Ojutai only revised history at the very beginning of her reign.
His reign.
Dromoka, Kolaghan, and Atarka are female; Ojutai and Silumgar are male.
And it was probably all the dragons? Enough that Khans is a forbidden word that everyone knows is a forbidden word, but not enough to completely wipe the word out.
His reign.

Speaking of that, remember when this was all a mystery and someone (Doug, I think) told us we'd have to wait to see what their genders were as they were spoiled because the gender was important?
Then it turned out that none of the dragons are born and just show up in storms... What was it that was important about which one was what gender?

I don't remember ever seeing anything like it being a mystery. Link?

I meant mystery as in "spoiler season hasn't really started yet, so we, the public, know nothing about anything."
What was the "interesting issue" with their gender? The fact that it was completely irrelevant and the way Tarkir dragons were presented they shouldn't've had genders at all?

He said that gender itself (as in the concept) was an interesting issue, due to how they reproduce. He wasn't talking about each dragon's individual gender.
