You could argue that Nahiri's feelings are reflected in Avacyn's madness. And with the Skirsdag infiltrating the Church and the Inquisition chopping people's heads off all over the place perhaps Nahiri felt that Innistrad was too corrupted to actually care about.
Obviously revenge is her motivating factor but she's an Oldwalker too, I don't think sentient life really matters to her all that much. Ugin himself talks about how the people of Zendikar are simply those "who happen to be alive [there] at the moment", very telling of how Oldwalkers think.
I feel like people who say that this is Sorin's fault because if Nahiri had been there she could have saved Zendikar are ignoring just who orchestrated the release of the Eldrazi to begin with. This is Nicol mutha******* Bolas we're talking about. If Nahiri had been there he would have just needed to make arrangements to kill her too. Hell he could just do it himself. Unlike Ugin all he would have to do is munch on her.

We can realize that, but Nahiri has no way of knowing that currently. It's quite possible Bolas will be the next target for her, but even if she had some idea of who he was I could see her blaming Sorin still. Short of knowing about Alara I don't think she'd consider him outside her capability to handle, and possibly even then, not like she's in a healthy frame of mind.

Doesn't make it anymore Sorin's fault.
There's a difference between a larger, more aware person saying its Sorin's fault and Nahiri saying that. Nahiri is perfectly right in believing that it's Sorin's fault.

I never said Nahiri wasn't right in assuming that. If my original post wasn't clear I meant readers who assume that. A lot of people have brought that up repeatedly as an excuse for Nahiris actions and as a way to blame Sorin.

Who exactly know that Bolas was ultimately responsible? Who would she have to encounter to learn that?

True. So I guess it's hard to imagine Nahiri finding it out ever. More likely I guess is Nahiri finding out about Jace, Nissa, Sarkhan, and Chandra. Not sure how but her wanting to take them out seems like a believable villain route.

I think that it puts her in a sweet spot as future Gatewatch antagonist. There's at least some implication that she's not in a particularly balanced state of mind. It's not that much of a stretch for her to extend her revenge quest to "everyone responsible."
Three of the five Gatewatch members were directly, if unintentionally, involved in the release of the Eldrazi and devastation of Zendikar.
Sarkhan would know of Bolas' responsibiliy. But yeah if the crazy face she is making in the art of her with imprisoned Sorin is any indicator she has gone far off the edge and probably won't care that he, Jace, and Chandra were manipulated. Nissa however is a different matter. In fact I'm a bit surprised that Sorin didn't even mention her. Though I guess that kinda doessnt matter since Nissa just removed the spike from the hand to use Ugins metaphor. She was trying ton protect Zendikar by releasing the eldrazi to the multiverse.
Well...
The simplest way Nahiri can come to know how the Eldrazi were released is through Ugin, I suppose.
Ugin knows who was involved in the release of the titans and at the moment he is studying the remains of the titans on Zendikar , oblivious of the events on Innistrad.
Nahiri might come back to her old plane, see tht has not been completey destroyed and have a talk with Ugin about the Eldrazi and how they were released.
Obviously after trying to cut down the ancient dragon for not protecting Zendikar.
I would really like to read a possible dialog between Nahiri and Ugin about her luring Emrakul to Innistrad to make Sorin pay.
"Ugin, why didn't you show up to help me when the Eldrazi were breaking free 1000 years ago?! I'll destroy Tarkir as revenge for you not upholding your oath!"
"I've been in a coma for the last 1200 years."
"... well, now I look a little unhinged, don't I."
"Positively insane, to be frank."
Really enjoyed the characterization of Thalia. It was good to see her operating as a leader of the people, something I never really got the sense of from her before, despite knowing that she was so.
Olivia cameos continue to satisfy. And that it took Thalia, Saint Traft, Avacyn's spear, and Sigarda to take down Brisela was exciting.
I liked todays story, I've liked Thalia since the first Innistrad block and like SimicNuggests said, it was very cool to see her leading. I'm a little disappointed that Arlinn and seemingly Ulruch only got a shout out but better then nothing I guess. I'm glad they also showed that while the people of Innistrad won't be enough to kill Emrakul, they are able to hold back spawn.

Another story sans planeswalkers that I really enjoyed. I really like the way spirits and humans work together. Thalia is really coming into her own as a character. We now have a bit more of the history of Saint Traft. Looks like the cliffhanger is there for the just in time antics of the Gatewatch.
Keep up the solid storytelling Wizards. A for this effort.
Thoroughly enjoyed this story, now looking forward to seeing the Jacetus League Gatewatch show up and get pwned, just in time for Liliana to show up and save their butts.
And the question "Which part of the story will James Wyatt ruin?" has its answer.
Okay, kidding ...a bit. This was the first article by J.Wyatt I liked at least a bit. Again it is a little bit imbalanced (I expected a little more from Brisela-Sigarda battle),but Thalia is well written and it was an enjoyable read.

James Wyatt's narrative prose is improving, but it's still not great. Some parts of that were really stiff and wooden. At least it's not a repeat of the debacle that was the Lunarch Inquisition.
It's now obvious to me that this set is the third set of the BfZ block. Story's the same, and Eldrazi are everywhere. I'm really getting burned out with the bad story choices over the past few years. Maybe I'll post a bit more once Kaladesh rolls around, but for now, I'm going to stick to my maps.
Rest in peace, Bruna and Gisela. You deserved so much better.

I like this battle a lot better than the Zandikar one. Why? Because you can see the flow of action, from allying with enemies to fight the same foe, familiar faces show up, and Sigarda teaming with Thalia/Traft to take on Brisela.
Although I was hoping for Odric to be here also. I suppose if the writer does that he'd take away part of Thalia's role.
Traft and Olivia remain my favorite characters of this chapter. He's literally asking Thalia to use the Force.
And in time of despair, Jacetice League will show up. Can't wait to see more Tamiyo.
Eh, I'll be the voice of dissent today, even though I don't really care to be. The story's plot I liked quote a bit, but a couple of things made the story as a whole just pretty "meh." I like most everyone else rather enjoyed Thalia's ever-developing characterization, and especially the dynamic between she and Traft. I also enjoyed the Olivia cameo and the Geist surge towards the midway mark. Then things turned for my tase.
Brisela is supposed to be a monstrous, horrific amalgamation of two archangels. The effort to take her down seemed fine but how is it that we were all hoping for a dramatic Sigarda face-off versus Brisela and all we got from her was one swipe at the thing? Thalia essentially soloed that whole boss fight. Which is the larger issue I have that the story has disconnected a bit in the block from the cards. If Sigarda is to take the mantle as the lone angel left for humanity to look to, where has her moments to shine been plot wise? She just kind of showed up for a few paragraphs and Thalia had to save her. We still don't even know if Sigarda's flight survived as well. That just personally bugs me greatly when I'd really like to see how the transition of the Church of Avacyn to the Order and Sigarda has occurred organically. Instead it'll likely just be a quick write-in.
Second issue is just that the whole second half felt a bit rushed. I mean, couldn't we have had anything more on Arlinn and the werewolves or Olivia and the vampires? A paragraph or two for each? A little outside view from Thalia? And I liked Thalia's view, but I also just wanted more from around her. There's more going on in this battle than just the Brisela confrontation, but we saw none of it. That just bugged me.
I mean, story is fine and I'm nit-picking based on my wants versus story needs, but some things just felt rushed here to me. Just wanted more Sigarda and Arlinn.
Side note: Shoutout to the ladies of Innistrad carrying the day this block. Arlinn, Olivia, Thalia and Sigarda in-world, and Tamiyo and Liliana (and I guess Nissa?) in planeswalker terms. I like that change in story.

I love that Thalia is working with St. Traft and possesses Avacyn's spear. Though I do wish all these angels would return It was neat seeing the geists possess and assist the humans as well. I did expect more action from Sigarda and a more epic scene unfolding in the battle against Brusela, but it is what it is. Emrakul's arrival is intended to be the real central event. I do resent what has become of Innistrad as a fan of Avacyn Restored. But considering what this all called for, I'm pretty happy with what has been accomplished so far in harkening back to the lore (like St. Traft taking the girl he saved to be his first heir and all) while creating characters and events we care about, including their alliances which was something I didn't care much for in BFZ. It'll be interesting to see what becomes of Sigarda. I find it awkward that Brisela spoke to her… I figured that thing lost all consciousness when it became an Eldrazi abomination. Either way, creepy. Perhaps Sigarda will take Avacyn's place now, but I do worry because even when all 4 angels were at their prime, it was still not entirely enough. So being down to one is questionable. Sigarda isn't nearly as powerful as Avacyn. But perhaps after this enough of Innistrad is purged that she can be an effective church figure.
