At the recommendation of several users, we're breaking off a new official discussion thread for Shadows Over Innistrad. This is for discussion around the Magic Story series of articles based on the SOI block only. That includes Eldritch Moon. I've moved the existing comments of SOI to this thread.
Like the previous threads, this is intended for the discussion of the individual SOI Magic Story articles, although some discussion of the overall plot is allowed, that is generally better suited to other threads.
Ah, so it appears we've got our first Werewolf planeswalker. Maybe a DFC? Although, probably not as the spoiled checklist card didn't indicate anything.
I rolled my eyes at a Werewolf planeswalker, knowing it's what just about everyone else wanted. But after reading Arlinn's bio, it seems pretty well done. So congrats to everyone who had wanted this. She looks cool too, and her journey on Innistrad should be interesting to follow. I didn't expect the legendary werewolf to be female, but it actually works out, interestingly. WOTC is funny. Everyone wanted a legendary werewolf, and we got a planeswalker one no less. Not for me, but hey, it's cool to see something so many wanted finally realized on a plane we all love.

Maybe she gets her own check list card? Being a mythic means she wouldn't be pull very often or we might not see her till Moon.
I find it odd though that three walkers all ignited their sparks around the same time on Innistrad but since its a werewolf walker idc.

Very interested in that thing which causes the crawling sensation, above anything else. Looks quite hellish; maybe those are symptoms of black mana excess caused by death of Griselbrand?

Shhh...you have a good shot on a Jenrik card in this block...;)
Great story. Seems that Kimberly Kreines can actually write when not handled a cliched task.
Both Halana and Alena were referred in flavortexts in the original block, btw.
EPISODE 02: A GAZE BLANK AND PITILESS
Humans are on the brink of a new golden age for Innistrad, ushered in with the loving guidance of the powerful angel Avacyn, who has for centuries been the protector of humans everywhere.

Is it just me or is the description just dripping with sarcasm ?...:)
Also, the final lines of Arlinn Kord's profile suggest that the church really went Radiant...

That's exciting to think about. And at this rate, Arixmethes in Return to Theros too, perhaps. This game is a far cry from the misery of playing Yugioh, where Konami always did the opposite of what players wanted lol.
I agree about Kreines this time around. She seems to be in her niche. She's more scientifically oriented, so her mind would naturally prefer mystery and horror stories over the emotional development of specific characters I suppose. Or perhaps the BFZ storyline, which we can all agree was cliche as you said, didn't suit her. Whatever the reason, she performed quite well here.
Gonna have to look up which cards referenced Alena. Man it's been a while since Innistrad, but I LOVE all this continuity by using these characters finally.

I agree, I find it awesome that they are going back at the flavor text characters and weaving them into the story.
Also anyone get a romantic from the two? I felt it when Hal was thinking about being a werewolf and that should would left Alena as a foil of what she thought the cathar did with his wife.

Story was nice, one of the better ones Kreines has written in a while. Halana and Alena were ok although the whole ''we're in sync'' thing got tiresome by the end. More Arlinn!
Rather nice story. Saw the wife being the cause of the deaths when they investigated the room, but her being possessed by a demon and the Pack under a planeswalker Alpha hunting her was a nice twist. And a new walker is always nice.
Should also say I thought it was a great story. I missed innistrad. Kreines did a well enough job.
Yeah, I cannot get it either.
EDIT: never mind, thanks Jay13 for the working link!!!
Regarding the Story:
I thought it was good, and a nice start to the Innistrad storyline.
My one conspiracy theory: Ormendahl is suspiciously close to Emrakul, similar to Gideon's name change from Theros to Bant.
And as far as Arlinn being the Were-Walker, def would like to see how her card turns out. My main concern is that everyone expected a legendary card, especially for Commander, so I wonder if Arlinn will be our first Standard Walker to have the 'This can be your commander,' text on it.
I thought at the end of OG Innistrad, werewolves were locked into their werewolf form but regained their human intelligence, creating the Wolfir? Perhaps it was only some that this happened to, and others are still typical werewolves.
Arlinb definitely is a transforming ealker since the werewolf at the end is her, and also has a notably different coloration. I'm going with maybe gold cards having their own seperate checklist, and that she starts WR and transforms to be RG. If that ends up the case, Ajani will be pretty jealous he didn't get to be the Naya walker.
I kind of liked the murder mystery feel this had. I think intentional vagueness must be a common thing this set and it kind of makes things hard toread for me, though. One thing I didn't understand was why the townsfolk thought it was a cannibal cow. I saw something about the cow had a bloody mouth. If it wasn't the cow, why did it have a bloody mouth? I did like that scene though because it really "felt" like a real thing that would happen in a real small country town, in a world that DIDN'T actually have many bloodthirsty varieties of monsters that would really do it.
I also didn't really understand the... Symbol? Or something? Like how they were made. I think they were made by the possessed woman to symbolize the ritual sacrifice but I didn't quite get how they were made and what it was a symbol of.

They didn't care that he was the savior of Fort Keff, the great hunter of Ondu, the champion of Kabira. To them, he was just another piece of flesh, a thing with life to be drained away.
Yeah, I thought the odds of a planeswalker's spark igniting were supposed to be extremely low. Has this been affected by the Mending? Or is Innistrad a world so full of traumatic experiences that ignition is frequent?
