A chill rain fell from patchy clouds, and something howled in the night. Jace had only been on Innistrad for two days, and he already hated it. The only saving grace so far was a new leather coat he'd bought to keep the rain and some of the cold at bay.
He just happened to find a leather coat that complements his costume, gauntlets and all?
Wish one of his cards would summon illusion tokens. at 5 CMC this one should have hd 4 abilities with +1 summon a 2/2 Blue Illusion token IMO.
Yes thank yoooou, I've been wanting a Jace for my illusion deck forever.
Gowrl. He had that leather coat tailored to his slim, toned physique, as they do. He's a touch Bi you see, and has good taste in fashion. It's a sexy coat too. Can't blame him hating Innistrad - the place is downright horrifying. If I planeswalked onto it, I'd walk right back out. Unless You're in Gavony in AVR times, or Nephalia is pretty cool.
I appreciate that we see Liliana's manor. At first, I didn't like that she had a manor on Innistrad, and then I realized that she has to live somewhere, and then I loved the reference back to her throne art in the original Innistrad art. I'll accept it!
I also appreciated the relationship between Jace and Lili, and personally wouldn't mind a little more back story or more explicit ties to Agents (like a reference to Kallist).
The recap (Garruk, Chain Veil, etc.) was also helpful, I think, as new readers join the Magic Continuity community.
My fan-fiction (linked in my signature) was thrown off a bit by the mention of Lili having met Sorin, but that's okay (but feel free to still read it and comment!).

"I met [Sorin]," said Liliana. "Once, shortly after I first arrived on Innistrad. He sought me out, tested my strength in battle, and pronounced me too weak to be a threat. Then he told me that Innistrad was his, and that I'd best be a civil guest—or he'd find me and kill me."
Mad respect to Sorin for giving Liliana the "this is my house" line. That had to be my favorite part of the story.
I think it's cool that Jace thinks of things in terms of how they compare to things on Ravnica, really shows how he considers that his home plane. I also thought it was neat that Lilliana clearly respects Sorin as someone she doesn't want to mess around with. Overall a really great story. I know it didn't really give us any new information but it was a good in-lore way for Jace to learn some background on the plane and it did a good job helping to set the plane. Thus far all of the SOI stories have been really good, here's hoping it continues all the way through!

Lol I wish. But yeah he def got that coat tailored. And of course he knows his measurements.
He totally has reason to hate innistrad. He barely got there and he's already being hounded by a pack of werewolves and group hugged by Lili's zombies. Poor Jace. This is just the beginning.
I'm still disappointed by these Jace/Liliana stories.
The werewolf chase on the beggining was completely pointless and unnecessary. I don't understand what it added to the story nor why it was there. Jace being able to control a horse at high speed while also crafting illusions was over the top. Then Jace can also do le parkour, apparently, by falling from the horse rolling and then starting to run. He can also keep his calm in the face of murderous werewolves and can only control the mind of a werewolf if he just met his human form, otherwise it is clearly impossible.
Jace finds Liliana and their dialogue has good notes and bad notes. Liliana attacking Jace with zombies is also over the top and pointless, and I don't see why Sorin would bother going after planeswalkers to 'test their strengths'. I do like some aspects of Lili's personality: the way she talks about Gideon, the way she feigns indifference when she clearly cares about him, and some other minor things. Overall, I think this story was not good. I think Liliana was way too soft on Jace, I think Jace was too over the top in some aspects (dealing with the werewolves) and completely idiotic in others (going to Markov Manor not even knowing what he would find, etc.). I would give this story a C, maybe C-.

Sorin would care about other planewalkers coming to his territory so he would check if they are troublesome enough to mess things up in Innistrad so he ested Liliana's strentgh and concluded she wasn't a threat that he coudn't handle. He dealt with the Eldrazi to prevent an otherwoldly threat to enetr his home and planewalekrs can be threats

There are many problems in that. The first one is how Sorin would know that someone is a planeswalker or not and when it entered his plane. The second one is that this task looks way beneath Sorin. He is a millenia old incredibly powerful planeswalker, I can see his reasoning behind worrying about the eldrazi, but every random planeswalker that gets into his plane? The chances of a planeswalker powerful enough to give him trouble showing up is almost null, especially after the Mending.

This event sounds like it was before the Mending when he was much more capable and Planeswalkers were much more of a threat.

Well, if it was just after she arrived, it would be Pre-Mending, and definitely before Avacyn showed up, so it likely would have been in a time period where he was still trying to figure out how to keep the balance of the Plane. Which likely meant a lot of hands on work at the time. And a lot of worry about other Planeswalkers screwing things up for him.
As for the "how would he know" I imagine someone as long-lived as Sorin has become very acquainted with the particulars of Innistradi genetics, and what his people look like versus outsiders.
And also to be fair, this is Liliana. She likely made a big show of things when she arrived, which is probably good for getting the attention of the head honcho of the Plane.
Checking back into the story, it was definitely pre-mending that it happened, since Liliana walked into Innistrad when her spark ignited if I'm not mistaken. Fair enough, that does sound better for Sorin if the oldwalkers were as much of a trouble as we were suppose to believe they were. That said, still would like to know how Sorin would possibly be capable of intercepting walkers into his plane. If Ugin himself could only detected the absence of Emrakul on Zendikar after Ulamog and Kozilek were destroyed, Sorin being able to detect a single humanoid figure like that seems... suspicious. Even pre-mending.

Wouldn't this be after he'd created Avacyn? I can't remember if we have an exact figure for Liliana's age, but I'm pretty sure she's not over 1,000 years old. I'd assumed that Sorin went after her cause another oldwalker would be one of the few things capable of harming his creation. This is basically Sorin showing Liliana who's top dog, and telling her not to mess with his stuff.
I'm not actually sure, but I believe you are right about it being post-Avacyn, now that I'm thinking about it more. Timelines in this game are a bit wonky.
That said, I get the feeling that Sorin would rather Liliana not try and mess with Avacyn, Pre-Mending.
Unless my memory mis-serves, Planeswalkers prior to the Mending could recognize each other's sparks. I think Sorin policing his plane is quite founded: see Feroz battling Taysir on Ulgrotha, or Kenan Sahrmal on Shandalar.

Also i really dislike Jace's "I could have mindwiped you hurr durr by now" yeah I'm pretty sure Lilianna could have used a kill spell in an instant if ig was a real fight. MtG is where you can hate white players or black players, and still not be racist.
Is it possible that Liliana knows about Avacyn's role? Maybe she would be more confident about helping Jace if she could assume that Sorin, after been told how she saved his plane, would at least not decide so fast to kill them as a little reward.
Mind-reading Nahiri would certainly help a lot, but then he'd have to find her first. Sorin, of course, has mind control of his own, so that would be more difficult.
The story was decent. With Sorin being my favorite planeswalker, I was happy to hear those tidbits about him, and that even Liliana doesn't want to mess with him. Last block, she completely stole his thunder on his own plane, I'm hoping they won't repeat that.

Possible plot points to foil mind reading would also include Nahiri's madness being contagious. I'd like to see that.

Yeah, that would be flavorful. They could even give them the Illusion clause of 'Whenever ~ becomes the target of a spell or ability, sacrifice it.'

If I had to hazard a guess, the order of events was: Liliana shows up, gets a little more acquainted with necromancy, gets the attention of a certain angel, gets rid of said angel, and subsequently attracts the attention of someone more powerful.
