Why are we assuming that Sorin had actually killed that many people. If we've learned anything from HBO, there may be hundreds of willing volunteers that gladly offer their life blood, so Sorin can survive for years without killing a single soul. He is half white, feasting on humans/animals may be a necessity, but actually killing, is not.

It's not that she has such amazing and dynamic characterization, it's the fact she had the potential to become so much more. She is a run of the mill angel, but she had a very unconventional origin. She wasn't just some random embodiment of goodness that coalesced from the natural forces of white on the plane, like most other angels. No, she was created by Sorin, a twisted, arrogant, and cruel monster who survives by killing others. Sorin requires one human worth of blood a month. He's over 6000 years old. That's 72,000 people Sorin has killed. 72,000. Think about that, and tell me Sorin isn't a monster. Now imagine having to live with the fact that you were created by that monster. Think of what a compelling story that could be! What's more, Avacyn is powered by human need. Her power grows when more humans are dying. I don't know about you, but that would make me question my existence. Such potential, all wasted.
I don't like this prejudice against vampires. Yes, they kill people, but otherwise they would starve to death. I disapprove how they can often act very gratuitously, but regarding their feeding habits, well, humans kill alot of animals to eat too, so we don't have the moral high ground to judge just because in this case we are not the ones at the top of the food chain. In fact, as you can see by the text of Bloodflow Conoisseur, as far as vampires go, Sorin has more respect for life than you give him credit for. If the guy is indeed a monster, it is not because of this 72000 kill count.
</blockquote>
While I'm not certain on the whole willing thing because of him being a jerk and a walker he also feeds more often when using his magic and feeds on non-human humanoids. He eats like 4 goblins just on his walk to the Eye of Ugin. So if that 72000 people turns into 1500 people 200,000 goblins and undermined yet significant amount of Leonin, Loxodon, Nezumi, Soratami, Viashino, Elves, Angels, Demons, Sphinx, and anything else he fancied at the time is it better?
Also I'm certain he has killed far more than that, because in addition to feeding, he kills people. On Tarkir he fed on one person and killed(I think) 5 people so take that as you will.
I'm really gonna need a source to believe this one. This game has distinct lack of cute things like faeries and goats and squirrels, so I'd rather it not be true.

Not a proper source, just try searching threads from those times.
For me, Lorwyn was one of the best fantasy world, and especially its land art is superb. But at the same time, "greater audience" was offended by too bright, colorful, and fairytale world. I especially remember discussion about swamps, and their lack of "decaying, piled up bones, collected there by unprecedented, dreadful Evil".
Well, at least I hope those people liked Innistrad, but I'm not sure...
Did a search. All I could find were lots of old posts with people whining, and other people liking it. It seems to me that the "Lorwyn is too cute" thing is just a myth, that keeps on getting repeated. (Even if someone posted something there is no way I can actually find it. There's gotta be a million posts mentioning Lorwyn and cute on this site, and honestly, Google is even more scattered. This is one of those things that isn't really searchable.)

</blockquote> didn't the story where he found ugin's bones say or imply that before the mending he didn't feel the urge to eat? So if before he didn't need to feed then he only kills when someone gets a case of being-in-the-way-of-a-millenia-old-vampire or for the greater good of innistrad heh
As Sorin watched him [the warrior he wants to feed upon] move off into the night, he felt a customary pang of irritation. The need for food—it felt so weak, so stupid, so mortal. A repetitive, mundane task that bound him to lesser beings. He had tried to ignore it once, but the results had been dangerous and horrifying. Sorin resented the hold that it had over him.

Old MaRo article/podcast. But I cannot find it just now either.
Basically, what he said was that their retrospective market survey has shown that the overly bright nature of Lorwyn and the sometimes very weird illustrations and names (boggarts etc.) were not so successfully accepted by players as they expected.
Just for the record, I really loved Lorwyn as well, and the concept of the dark mirror of Shadowmoor.

I wonder if Wizards has the guts to have Innistrad be destroyed. Without Avacyn it seems to lose a lot of its appeal. It would make show that they are willing to sacrifice things for the sake of the story. Even if it doesn't happen with Innistrad, I would like it to happen to at least one plane, since it seems like killing planeswalkers is a big no-no.

I mean destroyed like the plane that Ulamog destroyed with Sorin and Nahiri watching. Mirrodin is probably going be saved by the Gatewatch, anyways.

I should also note here that while he was an oldwalker (which is the majority of the time he was a vampire) Sorin didn't actually need to feed. Oldwalkers were beings of energy and didn't need to eat, drink or sleep.
Oldwalkers were beings of energy and didn't need to eat, drink or sleep.
Where is this confirmed? I get that they were stupendously powerful, to the point of being Godlike, but "beings of energy?"
In timespiral they elaborate better on this condition. The body walkers use is a projection of their mind, it is as real as they think it is and can be used to kill them if they get too comfortable with them.

This is something that was established as early as the novel Planeswalker. But what User_ said is true. If Urza was distracted, he' forget to do little things like turn his body, and he'd just switch positions instantly.
User person, pm me if you want to change your name.
I hope Tamiyo has been to Theros. Hope she invokes the story of the triton queen Korinna tragically killed by a human's harpoon and Thassa's tears becoming the Dakra Isles. Hope she uses that story to create Islands. Hope she taps them and counters Sorin's Anguished Unmaking. Hope Avacyn returns better than ever.

I'm really sick of seeing Innistrad angels destroyed. They are supposed to be badass awesome protectors of humanity, but they're always getting thrown around like chew-toys. Other than that, the story was pretty good.

From what I understand, Innistradi angels are actually weaker than many other angels. Maybe it's their omnipresence, or how strong their opponents are, relatively, but in the case of both angels in this story it took a huge number of enemies to bring one down.
Read the St. Traft/Withengar Story if you want a bad ass angel.
Hi, my name's Jhoria. I hear you've had trouble pulling a being with enormous power through the blind eternities and onto a plane of existence. Don't worry, happens to me all the time as well. I learned early on that good attitude and a lot of patience is required keep from going crazy waiting for your intended being to show up. Pro-tip: train a Rift Elemental to be your loyal pet. They work great at speeding up the process and a great snuggle buddies. They're like low (or high) voltage cats... be sure not to handle one for at least twenty minutes after it helps your summoning. But don't worry too much about your struggles at the homestretch. It took me hundreds of years to phase a continent back into existence, so two years for this "Eldritch Moon" is actually pretty good. You may also want to talk with another mage named Teferi and get his thoughts, but I'm sure you'll do fine.

Agree tbh. Glad I'm not the only one. But I already threw a fit about this so just waiting to see what happens to the overall plot. Come onnnnn I want to see the core plot and Tamiyo etc. already.
I thought this story was really good, it's cool to see Arlin's origin and that she actually has some relevance in the story. Here's betting she teams up with Thalia, Odric, St Traft, and Sigarda to form the "We're not quite Avacyn but I guess we'll have to do" club.
