I'm definitely calling 'War of the Planeswalkers' as an upcoming plot development.
It would be interesting to see a story with the Gatewatch hopping around recruiting people. That could be what inspires the negative version as much as OB/Bolas shenanigans.
I would definitely be worried that something like this would make them start automatically adding walkers to the 'good' or 'evil' side as soon as they're printed. I kind of like that most don't fit into those easy categories...
I agree. I think that after Innistrad's return we'll see a conflict with Emrakul or Phyrexia and if they want to make Multi-planar war: Ob Nixilis.

From today's story:
"Those oaths we took," said Gideon. "They weren't all alike, because we're not all alike."
That fact hadn't escaped Jace. It was a way for one oath to bind four very different people—until "justice and peace" and "the sake of the Multiverse" didn't line up. But they could deal with that when it came.

I mean Gideon is basically Captain America and Jace has some very Tony Stark-esque traits. It's not hard to see as a possible path. Lili would join with Jace while Gideon gets Nissa and Chandra.
I don't see it happening until the Gatewatch expands to upwards of nine or ten walkers though.
Gideon gets Chandra, but Nissa and Jace have shared minds and might be able to relate better. Also allows for interesting dynamics. Like Mr. Incredible and his wife.
I would wait a bit and let the Gatewatch grow. Then have the story stretch out over 2-4 blocks,or make the story 1 megablock.
If they do the megablock, I would have it be set on multiple planes, Origins shows that a set can have several planes each with their own intertwining story. All you need to do is use returning planes with maybe 1 new plane in a large set. Maybe start with large set with returning planes (perhaps 5), devote the small set to a new plane, have the second large set continue with returning planes (3 from first large, 1 from small, and 1 new return plane), then end it with the last small set focused on one set with the story coming to a climax (either a new plane, the plane from the first small set, or the returning plane from the second large set).
Example:
1st Large: Ravnica, Innistrad, Zendikar, Lorwyn, and Tarkir. Kicks off the plot, maybe trim the worlds down.
1st small: new world that involves a new walker who will become important. Continues the story.
2nd Large: Lorwyn, Zendikar, Ravnica, New Plane, and Alara. Set up the endgame with all the threads coming together.
2nd small: Alara. Conclude the stroy here with a remade Gatewatch that is trimmed.
I am not sure how Wizards is running the show, but someone should be in charge. A clear leader who can keep things on track. They can have meetings where everyone thinks together and comes up with the story, but the leader should keep them to this vision and they should also have someone maintain the continuity between the writers.
As for the story, I don't think they can keep the story going for more than 5 year arcs. Any longer and you get continuity lockout. All the villains (Nicol Bolas, Eldrazi, Phyrexians, Ob Nixilis) can last longer than that; but their plots should last longer than that time, especially now that we can do 2 blocks per year.

Ok then. I really dont know anything about how they run story at Wizards. I just feel in my opinion like the story is disjointed. Mostly over contradictions in fatpack booklet and UR
I would do eight blocks that're seemingly standalone, then for the ninth and tenth, dredge up a bunch of subtle connections that string the others together and end with a grand finale.

Agreed. They really need to all get on the same page with their printed material. At this point I consider the Magic Story articles to be canon and the other printed materials to be mostly canon with exception to any contradictions.

Same. The Uncharted Realms are questionable in quality, but overall are pretty good.
I think people are overestimating the GateWatch. If Duel Decks are anything to go by, I think you'll see plenty of inter-gatewatch conflict as soon as a given set doesn't have a clear "good guy" and "bad guy." Historically most of them don't get along, after all.
I'd guess you'll see Lilliana in the Gatewatch, same with anyone else who doesn't have a reason not to be in it and has a halfway decent relationship with any of the members.

Magic Story is intended to be canon, but some of the summaries even on the mother site make me question it.
Also, if Jace is Stark and Gideon is Captain America, Chandra is probably Hulk (rager), and Liliana could easily be Black Widow. ...but despite using the elements against foes, I don't see Nissa as Thor. And who is Hawkeye, or the new avengers?

Nissa is Hawkeye. She will be the balance for the team and when things start to falter she will hold then together. If it comes to a Civil War style event I could even see Nissa pulling a Ben Grim and just leaving. I actually expect Chandra to take more of a Thor role. Has responsibilities elsewhere, only cares about some of the goings on tangentially because of the people involved.
The closest thing to a Hulk we have would be Lili because the interests of the Gatewatch will probably conflict with hers at some point and the other members are probably super leery of her.

I still think Lil is Black Widow. "There's red in my ledger," etc etc. Also half the time is expected to be a conspirator or spy. Arlinn Kord may very well be Bruce Banner, depending on how they further her character development.
What ever happened to the Consortium, btw? Nicol Bolas was in charge but lost it to Tezzeret, but sounds like Bolas included that in his plan as well. But as a group of planeswalkers that we only know about three of, it's possible that we'll see more of them and that will form some of the Anti-Gatewatch.

Last we heard of the Consortium Jace had abandoned parts of it keeping only what he felt he could manage, branches on Ravnica and Alara but not sure where else. With Tezzeret comming back to life Jace may have abandoned it altogether because Tezz is too much of a threat, but we have no official word on its current standings.
Tezz actually only took a splinter portion of the consortium. And really it wasnt a group of planeswalkers but a group of planebound individuals connected by a few walkers. I'm sure there are more than Bolas, Tezz, Baltrice, and Jace. But last we saw the splinter portion Jace had mostly given it up.
RGXenagos. Is ambiguously dead. If he is undead in the Underworld, he may be able to somehow regain his spark and escape. After godhood, he may attempt to regain his power and might work with others.
I just want Xenagos to come back from the dead as a BR Satanic Goat planeswalker and rock even harder than he used to.

I second this motion, Satanic Goat walker....needs to happen
I think before we get an Anti-Gatewatch we need to establish a more cohesive Gatewatch by having them do more than just stop the Eldrazi.
However, for the hypothetical, here's my idea.
Liliana is approached by Ob Nixilis for getting revenge on the Gatewatch. He's already recruited Tibalt and Vraska and he wants her to help. She agrees, but she manages to go behind Ob's back to alert Jace. Together the two of the plan an approach to deal with this new force, however, the Gatewatch is currently disjointed and they've gone their separate ways. The group needs something to ally behind, and Ob would never fully trust Liliana unless she can prove to be on his side.
So during a meeting Jace manages to hold with Gideon and Nissa, they get attacked by Ob's evil legion, lead they by Jace and Lili. Liliana personally "Kills" Jace, which angers Vraska because she wanted the death to be by her hand, but Ob keeps them in line and Jace leaves a small, unnoticeable illusion over Nissa and Gideon who are forced to make a tactical retreat to get away from the 4 vs 2 match up, Jace's illusion allowing the two to get away in time.
Gideon and Nissa make their way to find Chandra and the three realize they need a plan, while there, Jace reveals himself, having been hiding until then from Ob to keep Liliana's cover. (This would also be the first we the audience actually learn about all that happened before, up until now it'd be believed that Liliana had actually killed Jace.) However, they had to get Ob to wholeheartedly believe the Liliana had killed Jace, so Jace had Liliana actually kill him, then resurrect him as an undead. The four team up, with Liliana sewing discontent between Vraska and Ob. Tibalt figures out Liliana's plan though, but for the moment is enjoying the conflict so says nothing.
Ob finds out where the Gatewatch have been hiding out and begins to launch an assault on them. Tibalt spots Chandra, who goads him into chasing her into a clearing to fight. Ob spots Gideon and Nissa on either side and thinks their plan is to just pincer him. However then Ob spots Jace standing to his 3 0'clock, and Liana stands on the 9. Vraska's furious and leaps after Jace, hoping to kill him for real this time, which was the plan, since now it's 3 vs 1, with Chadra keeping Tibalt entertained and Jace keeping Vraska furious.
Ob realizes he's ****ed up, but decides to try and win anyway through brute force. Ultimately Chandra and Tibalt's fight gets thrown sky high and Tibalt spots Ob being surrounded and Vraska nowhere to be seen. Realizing this fights over, he bids chandra adieu and Planeswalks out, allowing Chandra to rejoin them and Jace steps foreward, having bested Vraska a second time. Ob's surrounded 5 to 1, he can't win at all now, and runs away.

I rather enjoyed thinking on this. One problem though... Couldn't Vraska simply walk back to Ravnica, see that the Guildpact was still in effect, and thus discover that Jace was still alive?

I agree. I think that after Innistrad's return we'll see a conflict with Emrakul or Phyrexia and if they want to make Multi-planar war: Ob Nixilis.
