And that doesn't answer the question of if there were any non-human bloodchiefs.
Well there's Baloth Null. But I'm not really sure if we can say about bloodchiefs and I'm really not sure it matters.
The real reason there aren't non-human vampire bloodchiefs is that apparently the race of Eldrazi worshippers Ulamog processed were just humanoids. Why there are no non-human Vampires sired by bloodchiefs is a question that I think we're just supposed to not wonder about and something that's just the way it is because that's the way it is. Zendikar is not a place like Innistrad where only humans really are something that could hypothetically become vampires as far as know, since it's made up of other highly intelligent (and... corporeal? earthly?) humanoids like Kor and Merfolk. but I think it's just a representation thing for the art we aren't really supposed to pay much attention to that doesn't have much intentional meaning or reason behind it. I agree that it probably doesn't have any importance.

They didn't care that he was the savior of Fort Keff, the great hunter of Ondu, the champion of Kabira. To them, he was just another piece of flesh, a thing with life to be drained away.
I've always been bothered by this. I personally really like creatures with multiple creature types, there is just so much flavor potential. It is nice to see that over the years zombies have come from a variety of races and I would like to see the same with vampires. There are only really four nonhuman vampires; Vampiric Dragon, Vampire Hounds, Mirri, the Cursed, and Mephidross Vampire.
In addition to Zendikar, Ravnica has a lot of options for cool vampires. I know in gothic settings it's usually just dismissed as impossible, but I've always thought the idea of a vampire werewolf would be cool, It would be nice to see one in SOI.

Memories of Blood showed that it wasn't possession. The Vampires are proto-Eldrazi Spawn. They adapted to become humanoid based on needs.
"In the beginning, in the very beginning, there was hunger. That was all there was, this hunger, this want, this need. Our purpose was to consume. We needed legs and eyes to find prey. Arms and teeth to grab prey. Minds and strength to overcome prey. We consumed and used the energy we gained to consume more." - Memories of Blood (here)
As for non-humanoids, I think it's because the vast majority of non-humanoids on Zendikar aren't sapient, and if the choice is between a non-sapient beast with vampire powers, or a non-sapient beast thrall with vampire powers, it's clearly better to have the latter.

I think it's because nowadays they want Vampires to be sort of like Black's Goblin, Elf, and Merfolk equivalent (as opposed to Zombies) and treat it more often as a race than a class. I'm okay with that I guess. It doesn't bother me one way or the other all that much to be honest, but I could see the interest in weirder combinations and it's easier to justify than stuff like Elf Merfolks really.

My main comment on the story so far is that it has been excellent. Not necessarily in terms of everything that has been written being great, or that some of the possibilities aren't, imo, poor ones (I would really hate to see Emrakul killed so soon, and doubt Innistrad would be destroyed, so really hope Emrakul doesn't show up), but simply that this block's story is supposed to be a mystery (hence the "clue" mechanic), and the UR's and flavor text have done an excellent job in creating a mystery that has several very possible answers. Regardless of how the block story turns out in the end, hats off to Creative for managing, so far at least, to tell a mystery story. Let's just hope that official spoilers show that 1) design did a good job as well and 2) don't give everything away too early in flavor text (save whatever cards that solve it until next week)
And that doesn't answer the question of if there were any non-human bloodchiefs.

The artbook clarified the rather ambiguous story, and explained that the bloodchiefs are actually the remnanta of an ancient civilization of Eldrazi worshippers, transformed by a plague created by Ulamog. Don't have the book on me right now, but it's also explained that they're the creators of a lot of the ancient ruins left around, but I'll have to double check when I get a chance
The Eldrazi spawn thing was always just one interpretation of that story, I think.
Edit: yes, I recalled incorrectly,it's implied ancient Kor built many of Zendikar's ruins. The vampires built the Helix of Zof, though

It was never told exactly how Sorin created Avacyn right? If so this theory can go out the window, but based on the discussion so far how's this for a possibility:
Avacyn's power was related to the direness of the human's situation. This would require some sort of thermometer function that makes Avacyn's power wax or wane based on the lifeforce of the humans on the plane. What if he measures this through the leylines of Innistrad using Cryptoliths (using knowledge gained from watching Nahiri work)? He placed these on the moon so the Demons and other evils wouldn't find it. Enter Nahiri looking for vengeance who quickly finds out the Cyptolith's location and their function (It is her expertise after all). She decides that the best way to get back at Sorin is to "reprogram" Avacyn using these Cryptoliths (See Avacyn as Sorin's Robocop who gets a virus uploaded).
Structural Distortion's flavor text can as such be interpreted as Nahiri saying "You let the people I cared about be killed, now I will do the same to your people" instead of "You gave my world Eldrazi, now I'll bring them to yours."
Avacyn's vision of the cryptoliths is the moment where the reprogramming kicks in.
TL;DR: Avacyn is corrupted because Nahiri hacks Sorin's secret moonbase.

We know Avacyn can hear prayers so she's somehow connected to the humans of the plane. The Moon being the observation station is a good idea. I doubt the Angels and Demons could reach the Moon, making it the perfect place for Sorin to build it.
Of course the problem now is Sorin can't pot up to the Moon anymore.
RIP Avacyn.New preview confirmed her permenant death
Is ncie that it humanises Sorin showing and telling that indeed it hurt him for doing it
Yeah, someone mentioned that they thought Avacyn might be his daughter, this suggest that he isn't but that he obviously views their relationship that way.
Just a minor detail about the promo version of anguished unmaking: people were claiming, in the original picture that we got, that Sorin was looking at someone (maybe Nahiri). From the promo version art that we got, if that sort of thing is to be trusted, it is clear that there isn't anyone in front of him. He was just making a badass pose.
It also gives us more clues at where he might be. Looks like maybe some cathedral? Maybe the Vault of the Archangel? Not sure.

Her ultimate only makes sense if you're going to put something big onto the battlefield. Not saying Eldrazi, but... Eldrazi.
Also, dunno if someone mentioned it before, but the Clue symbol totally looks like something someone who was told what this looks like without ever seeing it would draw. I mean, main shape with a gap at the top, stuff dangling below it
It just came to me that the set symbol for EMN will probably have something to do with the Clue symbol.

It specifies "artifact or creature" so probably not an Eldrazi. She's almost certainly going to be paired some powerful artifact.

Eh, as I said in the Rumor Mill...we all saw Ulamog defeated at Aligned Hedron Network. We all know how it turned out.
With Jace and Tamiyo arriving in the whole pic, I have a strong suspicion that they are goona intervene before he really destroys her.
We will see, mark my words.
Feel free to mourn her for now, though
Saving ehr would be abd hoenstly. This way is afr more tragic without been doom and gloom in the plane. This would be great charazcterization for Sorin making his confrontation witrh Nahiri far more personal
