So I guess we're going to learn about Ashaya the elemental in another few weeks? There was mention that there would be a week for each walker in WUBRG order upcoming and UR would follow those weeks.
Perhaps Ashaya's story will be the bridging story between Origins and Battle for Zendikar, since the new Nissa art features her standing on Ashaya and Nissa, Sage Animist implies that she could summon Ashaya before the events of Battle of Zendikar.
We been told the backside of the walkers show them in in the present so this might be more of a "preview" for her storyline in Battle for Zendikar.

I wasn't too sure how much of the "present" it represents though, since Gideon's art clearly showed him at Bant and I don't think it was mentioned he returned to Bant/Alara since the Rise of the Eldrazi (which was when he first appeared to us anyway).
I enjoyed the bit about Gideon and how he feels compelled to fight all evils at once. It did a good job of showing one of white's flaws that had not been address much recently. The bit at the end annoyed me though. BFZ might not be the war against eldritch beasts I had hoped for but rather another "Jace solves all the puzzles with his amazing powers! He's smart!" block. I thought they learned from RTR.
I love Gideon but all I kept thinking while reading the story was "YOUR NO GOOD TO ANYBODY IF YOU GET YOURSELF KILLED BY BEING CLUMSY AND SLEEP-DEPRIVED!"
An idiot, but I respect him all the more for it. lol

Krenko is certainly among the wittiest of goblins. Always love his parts in the stories.
Gideon is quite interesting, which is fairly unusual for someone representing those ideals. I believe they are building him towards WR. This is why he is becoming more and more reckless and devoted to what he judges as right.
In this case i wouldn't mind pure intellect becoming the key to defeating the Eldrazy. Don't forget that the original trio imprisoned them by luring them into a trap and not just fighting face to face.
Excellent story, and now we see the seeds planted for the Jace-tus League we'll be seeing in BFZ.
Very efficient int hat instead of trying to invent a ton of new characters, they reuse characters they've already created. adds some depth to those guys. I approve.

Really liked this story and its characters. Poor Gideon needs a well-deserved nap.
My problem with the whole thing about Gideon going to Ravnica to help the Boros is that it didn't feel very important next to Eldrazi threat on Zendikar. But the way they tie-in Jace at the end makes it worthwhile trip for Gideon.
Highlight line: "A Gideon prowls these lands, and it looks to be guarding its kill."

I agree, you don't have to like Jace to see that Eldrazi punching is not going to help Zendikar that much. Gideon is right to look for allies for as the story implies, there are limits to what just one Planeswalker can do.

I also appreciated this story immensely. It's nice to finally see an explanation of Gideon's working on Ravnica and why he was there. Instead of feeling like he was neglecting Zendikar he just decided to do what any overconfident hero would do (overconfidence is a trait we got from his Origins story) and try and save both worlds at once. Gideon's trying to act like a pre mending walker and failing at it and I love it. Now we just wait to see what's next. I would however, not be disappointed if Jace couldn't end up solving the leyline puzzle on his own and needed the help of a certain spirit dragon to take things to the next level.
1) Well, that story confirm that the "unknown" boros planeswalker for the UR of Jace and Ral Zarek a few weeks ago is Gideon.
2) Unfortunately, Gideon don't know Tamiyo , but since Jace is in origin and all the 'walkers form the set are suppose to be in future stories that make more sense.
I do not mind that intellect rather than force is used to defeat the eldrazi. What I mind is that there seems to be another gimicky, poorly explained puzzle for Jace to solve and that his intelligence has become an informed characteristic.
I think the story was great. It's refreshing to see a character with a real flaw, not only that but I felt concerned for him which is not something I can say for many of the other walkers. If there is no risk, there is no story.

I think they kind of explained this in Jace's origin story, though.
Jace's homeworld is probably the most advanced in terms of mana manipulation and leylines through the rings. This is the major area of study for almost everyone, because understanding it is the key to a better life.
Jace's early abilities show that he's able to 'borrow' the experience and knowledge of others. So when he's 'smart' in RTR, it's partially because of his research assistant. He was exposed on Vryn to some of the top minds by his back and forth between the factions.
So, I actually think it's fair to give Jace this one. His makes his affinity for leylines make a lot more sense. Put him in a room with Ugin, where he'll be able to freely draw on Ugin's knowledge and his own, and I think he actually makes some sense.

I'm glad they connected it to that Jace/Ral Zarek story as well. Good to see that Creative is finally starting to connect the dots, instead of just moving characters from one plane to another.
This was definitely one of the better URs in recent memory.

Plot twist: Jace isn't really all that intelligent. He just has access to more information than everyone else because of the mind reading thing.
In slightly more seriousness, we know that Jace is going to be talking to Ugin, so there's probably not tons of figuring out to do. He's probably going to be doing more of the implementation of the leylines plan than the devising of it.
I'm not sure whats the timeframe between Rise of the Eldrazi and Battle for Zendikar, but it certainly feels like it needs at least a few months. If Gideon has been helping a plane in the day and another at night... doesn't Gideon ever need sleep? The urgency of the story seems to be forever - Zendikar is definitely under continuous attack and Ravnica has endless troubles. In fact it's already mentioned Gideon didn't sleep for days before the first phase we saw in Zendikar and every phase of the story more or less ended with "You're tired/injured, take a res- Not yet, I need to help the other plane."
Honestly, I was more concerned about his lack of sleep over his physical injuries in the story. At this rate, by the time we re-seal Ulamog, Gideon would have been the first planeswalker to die of sheer exhaustion.
That being said, I like Gideon's character a lot. He's literally the polar opposite of Liliana.

I'm not so sure Tamiyo is the right brains for the job.
Gideon: "The spawns are just seconds away from swarming this library. Did you find any info yet on how to stop these things?"
Tamiyo: "No. I found something better... the Concise Compendium of Zendikari Cosmos!"
Gideon: "Gaaah, we don't have time for this! There are far more important matters at hand!"
Tamiyo: "What could be more important? I mean, listen to this. Did you know that Zendikar has three moons? Ooh, ooh! And Salrus, the biggest one, has a surface composition made of seventy-six percent onyx. Onyx! Oh, what a vast multiverse we live in, huh?"

I just find Jace boring. Would have love an other character doing the job.
Well at least Creative remembered that the Eldrazi are otherworldly and don't have mustaches that they twirl as they tie people to railroad tracks.
Gideon is legitimately the best of the 5 origins walkers and the only one anyone can care about. Jace just sits on his throne while the plot desperately tries to find its way to him, while Gideon is out there doing things.
Ari Levitch is quickly becoming the best writer on the team, or maybe he's just really good at Gideon stories.
The Jace hate is frankly irritating at this point. Even when he is the proper person for the story you guys are too blinded by what I can only assume are projection issues to not start frothing at him.
Personally, I do not care either way. He is too boring to trigger any emotion other than indifference in me.
Also the most interesting snippet from the story was probably the fact that the Shattergang Brothers are (were) three goblins. I always thought it was just two.
