Greetings, fellow Vorthos! I have crawled out of the cave I call my mind to ask the storyline community for some help. The title says a lot; I'm looking for some characters abilities and powers that I haven't been able to find. If anyone else wants to ask a similar question, this thread would probably be a good place for it.
My first question isn't really a character, more of a role. What exactly do the lullmages of Zendikar do? The only card we have of them is Lullmage Mentor, and he counters spells. (The friend making is his mentorship.) I know that they can control (or at least pacify) the Roil, but I seem to remember from somewhere that the Roil isn't really a thing anymore. (Don't quote me on that.) Also, in the Planeswalker's Guide, it is said that lullmages have some form of mind magic. However, that could have just been the ravings of a suspicious conspiracy theorist.
Don't worry, my other questions won't be so long. In fact, I can sum it up here; the Theran gods. Are there any powers that the gods share, aside from making nyxborn and being immortal?
What about the individual gods? Heliod can blind people and shoot lasers, as well as empower his followers, heal people, throw his spear anywhere on Theros, and blow up cities. Anything else?
Thassa can (slowly) change the coastlines, bestow (and deny) wisdom, see into the future, counter spells, control the attacking and blocking of creatures (probably deception of some sort), transform people into sirens (not confirmed), and probably has hydromancy.
Erebos can drain peoples life energy, grant strength or wisdom in exchange for health, prevent healing, force sacrifices, destroy peoples short term memory, has an impossibly long whip, and has some form of necromancy.
Purphoros can make people fast, make the land come alive, has pyromancy, can make people more aggressive and battle-savvy, move mountains, blow stuff up, create sandstorms, heat up people's blood, has some form of electromancy (probably very minor), and gives dragons their flame.
Nylea can give people poison or extreme accuracy (whatever deathtouch on Bow of Nylea represents), heal, renew life, is an expert with a bow, has some control over mana bonds, can influence monsters and animals, strengthen people, and controls the wind.
Athreos can drain life, refuse to take people to the underworld, and has a surprising amount of minions.
Ephara can smite (immobilize in this case), heal, strengthen people and give them the ability to fly, bestow wisdom, and has some form of geomancy.
Iroas can strengthen people, destroy enchantments, increase the damage someone takes, prevent damage, and is amazing at tactics.
Karametra can make a crapton of mana (or at least can give a lot of it), heal, make sables, and control crops.
Keranos can see the future, bestow wisdom, and has electromancy.
Kruphix can trap the other gods in nyx, bestow wisdom, see the future, manipulate time (or at least slow the rate at which mana disperses), has boundless memory, heal (minor), has some stealth magic, and has chronomancy.
Mogis can deal damage, straight up kill stuff, make people fast, scare the @#$% out of people, make people more aggressive, has some control over minotaurs, and can see the future.(tf?)
Pharika has some form of necromancy (though not necessarily raising the dead), can heal, has control over poison, can permanently kill people (Extinguish All Hope), and can turn people into gorgons.
Phenax can destroy people's memory (both short- and long-term), can turn people (or at least the dead) into trees, permanently blind, turn people into dreams, and destroy both an army and the land with a punch.
Xenagos can make people move fast and strengthen them, summon a bunch of creatures (probably wild animals), produce a lot of mana, blow stuff up, and make people more reckless.
Whoa. That was a lot longer than expected. Please, correct me if I am wrong in any of this, add anything else to this list, or ask your own questions on the capabilities of characters.
First, there's a very important concept you're missing--gameplay/storyline segregation. Just because (for example) the card Kruphix, God of Horizons lets you store up mana doesn't mean Kruphix (the character) has that ability. At no point in Godsend did he demonstrate even an awareness of mana. In fact, most characters (other than planeswalkers) don't talk about mana bonds or mana.
I might have gone a little overboard with the capabilities of some of them, but a character getting a specific card likely represents their abilities fairly well.
I might be wrong, but I seem to remember that mages at the very least know about mana and mana bonds.
Ah, I see what you mean. When I say something game specific, like tapping or mana storage, I guess I mean that somehow, they do that in the game. I like your idea of Kruphix manipulating time to save your mana. In fact, Ilike it so much that I am going to put it in there. The reason I didn't put Ephara's or Heliod's tapping abilities as "smiting" is because smiting usually involves exile effects, not tapping.
