Come to think of it we know surprisingly little about the character's origin stories. Presumably this also means we'll learn the plane of origin for each character.
I would like to read about Liliana as an old walker she how she acted before the mending hit her.

Interesting to see Chandra among those listed. Ajani was obviously left out since we already know his backstory, but I thought the flashbacks in Purifying Fire would suffice for a Chandra origin. Guess she's just popular enough to warrant inclusion.
I'm really interested in Liliana's story. Maybe we'll finally find out who that bloody Raven Man is?
I totally thought that too when I saw the Ravens. I'm curious that they stated her as a healer before her spark's rise and her moral fall. (Yes, I'm white/Green. So I consider it a fall. Deal with it. ;p) The only person she attempted to heal was her bro- which didn't turn out so well for him. Stupid Raven Man, gotta make family relationships complicated don't ya?

I suspect we'll be exploring these as Uncharted Realms stories. While I agree with Squirle on Chandra, perhaps we can get some recap of her ascension but also get a concrete story on her interactions with Ramaz to set up her pre-Purifying Fire story.
An origin for Gideon should be fun, and I would also expect a frame story for Nissa--grounded in present-day Zendikar then flashbacks.
Liliana's story has may potentials and mysteries, but I expect something straight-forward from Jace.
Speculation and hopes aside, I am glad to see a story-centric final Core set that will bring some of our major players to the forefront and undoubtedly prepare us for future story directions.

We already have a story for Gideon. It was ALSO in the Purifying Fire.
Nissa, meanwhile, had some interesting stuff from Teeth of Akoum that I'm going to be wary to see if they include.
I expect something straight-forward from Jace.
It was already covered in Agents of Artifice.
Which actually brings me to some trepidation about a lot of this because aside from Liliana, which was told in a webcomic, all these origins were covered in books.
And three of those origin stories were handled OUT OF HOUSE by Laura and Ari. I'm... wary that they might just dump all of that info in favor of bringing it in line with some other idea they have for the characters.

I fear the something as well and I think we already have proof, no where in the Liliana comic I can remember ever hinting Liliana was a healer.

To be fair Agents of Artifice has its own canical problems. I personally wouldn't trust it as a probable source of Info. (You can disagree but this isn't exactly the post for the finer point of canon)
I'm curious to see how they do the legendary Creature-Planewalker changeover. Duoface cards? separate legendaries? Wasn't Nissa a bit of a elf-bigot before her li'l Eldrazi mistake?

well... I can kind of see the healer aspect. She obviously knew about the right herbs to collect to treat wounds, so there's something there to build on.

Because the guilds came back? Eh... not as much a big deal, though most of that is only in squinty retrospect. It said that nobody could predict what would happen, and the entirety of AoA took place outside Ravnica City (the 10 districts), which is where EVERYTHING happened in Return to Ravnica.
I'm curious to see how they do the legendary Creature-Planewalker changeover. Duoface cards? separate legendaries?
Hopefully separate legendaries.
Wasn't Nissa a bit of a elf-bigot before her li'l Eldrazi mistake?
Yes, but that was partly because she'd been the victim of those prejudices herself.
Maybe double faced cards that turn from creature to plainswalker when a spark igniting trigger occurs? Or do you think we'll see legendary creature/plainswalker pairs?
I thought AoA was when the guilds where still mostly disbanded?

From a rules perspective, anything turning into a planeswalker is an issue since the loyalty counters SPECIFICALLY come into play on it. This would make whatever transform mechanic they have HAVE to function with a loyalty gaining function.
I would much prefer to see something more like the herald cycle.
I thought AoA was when the guilds where still mostly disbanded?
It was, but the location was never in the main Ravnica city where the guilds held the most prevalence. Hell, virtually all of the Ravnican story takes place in the 10th district specifically because that's where ALL the guild headquarters are.
However, they really downplayed the fact that the guilds went away at all and a large chunk of AoA was sort of built on the idea the guilds weren't around anymore. When they came back, it was possible, but still very odd as a result.

It is possible to do Legendary into Planeswalker DFC and the easier cleaner way of working it is with a zone change where the DFC comesback transformed like with Loyal Cathar.

Well I think her being healer before really makes sense. It's not that far-fetched to think that a dramatic event like loosing a loved one because her own capabilities as a healer were not enough, pushed her to the point where she wanted to acquire the knowledge to just bring back the dead which in turn also corrupted her.

Except thats not what happened. From the wiki;
Liliana grew up on a plane under the thumb of her father, a general and ruler of the lands he fought for. Even at this stage in her life, she was a temptress and more often than not, didn't care a thing for the kind of reputation that sort of activity would spawn. This infuriated those her father had entrusted to watch her, but her antics did not change one bit. Her privileged life would come to an abrupt end, though, when her brother Josu suffered a horrible corruption at the hands of her father's enemies.
As a test, perhaps as much to rein in the reckless girl, Lady Ana gave her the task of gathering the required roots to cure her brother. Unfortunately, she arrived too late, as her father's dark enemies had razed the groves where the Esis Tree had grown. She only learned of this fact when she encountered a strange man who claimed to be a supporter of her father. He offered his assistance, though he warned that her family would not want her to use his cure. She returned to the castle and despite the warnings of Lady Ana, she used the cure. Truly, it cured Josu of his affliction, but only at the cost of driving him insane and poisoning him anew. Since his condition had been wrought by Liliana's hands, she was cast from her home to wander.

I wasn't using it to disprove she is a healer, using to disprove your idea that unable to heal someone lead to her spark igniting;

If that was the case why won't it trigger when her brother was cursed?
IF the story we get takes place after Liliana is banished and she became a healer in that time I'm fine (and that dose make sense storywise) but making her a healer in her past shown in the comic when the only reference to it was she knew what herbs could help her brother (which someone else could have told her) is pretty weak IMO.

The catch if she was a healer she would have spells depicting the manipulation of life force or direct damage to one's essence like Sorin. Except all her depictions are on cards about necromancy or killing things. I mean she's no Dr Frankenstein so I doubt her knowledge of Healing magic is even remotely useful in raising the dead.
That's making a rather huge assumption that all magic functions the same.
Her skills appear to have been in mixing tinctures as more of an apothecary. That doesn't mean one directly draws and manipulates life force. We've seen plenty of examples of healers who don't function mystically, such as Orim, Samite Healer.

Healing spells are considered necromancy in some RPG systems, including several versions of D&D, so that's not actually not a huge leap.

Would be good. Those birds look more like storm crows than ravens, though.
I want her legendary version to read "Liliana of the Storm Crow."
She and Jace are the two most interesting walkers I am interested in learning about from this set. I wish it'd been Garruk instead of Nissa, but I'll take what they give.
I don't believe we're going to get anything remotely like Moxen, for the same reason there's no reason to believe they're going to make sure to put tribal lords in -as- an homage to Lord of Atlantis, Zombie Master, and Goblin King.
Wizards doesn't themselves actually see this as Omega-- it's not going to be a sendoff set to the Core Set-- it's just the last Core Set, without being specially designed to be about being the last Core Set. It's going to be looking back only as far as the Webcomics for ''nostalgia'' and ''sendoffness''.
I am probably every color-combination it is possible to be, though it's really hard to figure out what it would mean to be 4-colored....it doesn't seem logical to be 4-colored without being 5-colored.

Magic Origins will explore the origin stories of Gideon, Jace, Lili, Chandra and Nissa.
It will have more new cars than any other core set, with two brand new mechanics, and will be heavily story driven.
