I was bored at work today, and because I have no life outside of Magic, I got to thinking: If the 'walkers were printed as creatures, what would their types be? The races are mostly self-explanatory (mostly), but the classes are a bit trickier. Here's what I came up with while I was supposed to be working.
Ajani - Cat Shaman? Cleric?
Ashiok - Good question ...
Bolas - Dragon Wizard
Chandra - Human Wizard
Dack - Human Rogue
Domri - Human Warrior? Berserker? Barbarian?
Elspeth - Human Knight
Garruk - Human Druid?
Gideon - Human Soldier
Jace - Human Wizard
Karn - Golem, duh
Kiora - Merfolk Shaman? Wizard?
Koth - Human Warrior? Shaman?
Liliana - Human Wizard
Nissa - Elf Druid? Shaman?
Ral - Human Wizard
Sarkhan - Human Shaman
Sorin - Vampire Wizard? Warrior?
Tamiyo - Moonfolk Scout? Wizard?
Tezzeret - Human Artificer
Tibalt - Human? Devil? Assassin? Rogue?
Venser - Human Wizard, obviously
Vraska - Gorgon Assassin
Xenagos - Satyr Shaman? Rogue?

Ajani - Cat Shaman? Cleric?
Shaman works better. Cleric would need a specific religion or creed to follow.
Ashiok - Good question ...
Horror?
Domri - Human Warrior? Berserker? Barbarian?
At that age and general lack of abilities, just Human looks good for him. He doesn't fight good enough for those classes. If anything, we'd focus on his magic and go Shaman or Druid. Or his streetwise with Rogue or Scout.
Ajani - Cat Shaman Warrior. He's versed in magic and combat.
Ashiok - Nightmare Wizard.
Chandra - Human shaman.
Dack Fayden - Human rogue.
Domri Rade - Human shaman. He's doesn't really fit as a berserker or warrior, because physicality isn't his forte.
Elspeth Tirel - Human Knight Wizard. Versed in magic and combat.
Garruk Relentless - Human Druid Warrior.
Gideon Jura - Human Soldier.
Jace Beleren - Human Wizard.
Karn - Golem.
Kiora - Merfolk shaman. Her magic feels more based on intuition and feel that study.
Koth - Human shaman.
Liliana Vess - Human wizard.
Nicol Bolas - Elder dragon. I feel his wealth of experience and powers extends beyond the need for a class type.
Nissa Revane - Elf druid warrior.
Ral Zarek - Human wizard.
Sarkhan Vol - Human shaman.
Sorin Markov - Vampire wizard soldier. I'm not really sure about this one. Given his noble birth, I'm willing to bet there was formal training for his magic and swordsmanship.
Tamiyo - Moonfolk wizard.
Tezzeret - Human artificer. Can't magic for crap without his etherium, so no additional creature type.
Tibalt - Human devil rogue.
Venser - Human artificer.
Vraska - Gorgon assassin.
Xenagos - Satyr shaman / God.
I feel like it's fitting for Karn to actually get a class type too. Golem Wizard.
Nicol Bolas - Elder dragon. I feel his wealth of experience and powers extends beyond the need for a class type.
On the one hand, I feel like he should have a class... on the other yeah, he's at this weird crux of casting abilities and none of the classes really fit.
Sarkhan Vol - Human shaman
Human Shaman Soldier because he HAD been part of the army and a really skilled commander.
Sorin Markov - Vampire wizard soldier. I'm not really sure about this one. Given his noble birth, I'm willing to bet there was formal training for his magic and swordsmanship.
But he doesn't fight like a soldier at all. I feel like Vampire Warrior Wizard would be better.
No, I think Golem Artificer would work. Though really, his "thing" these days seems to be time travel, which is kind of beyond any of the classes.

Honestly, I'm thinking Vampire Knight Wizard for Sorin. "Knight" in the lore is open enough to include solitary, self-serving people, and he has a distinctively "knightly" aesthetic.
Precedence says no, but Karn is a step above most golems, so not sure. I feel like he, much like Nicol Bolas, transcends the need for creature types because of his power and the width of his experiences.

I think Sorin would just be Vampire Wizard. Regardless of his training in the past, creature types seem to take in what they are at that moment. One example would be Kamahl (Kamahl, Pit Fighter and Kamahl, Fist of Krosa). He starts off as a barbarian but becomes a druid over time. I'm sure he still remembers how to "barbarian" at times, but its not a defining characteristic. I'm sure Sorin could shred any skilled swordsman in a fight, but that doesn't seem to be the way he rolls.
As for Ashiok, I agree with just plain wizard. Ashiok doesn't have the same feel as you'd expect from a MTG horror/nightmare and is shrouded in enough mystery that I feel a single type speaks louder than a dual type could.
I want to make a joke about Venser now being Zombie creature type, but that would possibly cause a bigger problem/future retcon. So, Venser's creature type for now will just be "No".
Bolas can have the old school Legend creature type. Seems fitting.
For Ashiok did anyone ever think maybe she is Illusion Wizard? She is not completely corporal seeing as the top of her head seems to be made of smoke. She is also not completely ethereal. She also seems to get some of her power from other beings imagination/ dreams. The creatures she uses against her enemies also become nightmares. Ashiok's Adept also lends itself to this theory I believe seeing as it has Heroic which is a very similar ability to the Illusions in M12 albeit in reverse. Just another idea as to her origins if they were to do something along the lines of an illusion or nightmare, maybe she was born from the dreams of an incredibly powerful being such as a god (not theros gods) or some relation to Nicol Bolas (like everything else does) maybe born of his dreams/nightmares before the mending. Anyway just a theory that i probably got way too off topic on.
I mostly agree with Caranthir's with a few exceptions:
Ajani - Cat Shaman
Ashiok - Nightmare Wizard - Wouldn't he be a Wizard Horror, or at least a Nightmare Horror Wizard? I mean, he makes Nightmares, but is he really one himself?
Bolas - Elder Dragon Wizard - In modern terms, they wouldn't use 'Elder', he'd just be a Dragon Wizard.
Chandra - Human Wizard (Spellshaper? - Ala Jaya Ballard, especially since she learned from the monastery founded by Jaya.)
Dack - Human Rogue Wizard - He's a trained Mage who only turned to thievery later
Domri - Human Shaman - Besides the fact that there are no Gruul 'Barbarians', Domri's skills would label him as a shaman or even a druid
Elspeth - Human Knight
Garruk - Human Warrior Druid - Wouldn't he be a Demon Berserker now, post DoTP15? Or at the very least a Mutant?
Gideon - Human Soldier
Jace - Human Wizard
Karn - Golem Wizard
Kiora - Merfolk Shaman
Koth - Human Shaman
Liliana - Human Wizard
Nissa - Elf Shaman
Ral - Human Wizard
Sarkhan - Human Warrior Shaman
Sorin - Vampire Rogue Wizard - Sorin is a rogue in a lot ways, but most obviously he tends to be a manipulator
Tamiyo - Moonfolk Wizard
Tezzeret - Human Artificer
Tibalt - Human Devil - He'd be a Mutant too - I think Vorel lacks Mutant only because of a lack of space.
Venser - Human Artificer Wizard
Vraska - Gorgon Assassin
Xenagos - Satyr Shaman Rogue

All the dementia nightmares were "nightmare horrors". I feel it's appropriate as Ashiok uses the same casting mechanic.
I feel like it's fitting for Karn to actually get a class type too. Golem Wizard.

Hmmm...
She does like sticking it to the man, a very roguish thing to do.
But she's exponentially less subtle than pretty much any rogue ever.

Frankly, I don't even know what a Knight is supposed to prepresent in magic terms. I guess it's just a more honourable version of a soldier?
