So I've been keeping up with the uncharted realms so far and the character who I can't define why he's black and red is Grenzo. I mean he lets Selvala go, directs her to Muzzio's workshop and just laughs about the ensuing fight. I get that he has the keys to the kingdom so to speak but what about him is black/red?
He's acting as an agent of chaos (directing Selvala to Muzzio's place just to sit back and watch the crazy) while bettering his own position in the complicated political landscape of the High City. That seems pretty BR to me.
Black can be manipulative and cunning, and Red is often associated with Chaos. While he is letting Selvala leave, he isn't doing it out of the good of his heart; the purpose there, it seems, is to sow more discourse and chaos into the world, which I think fits a R/B color pairing quite well.
So he just does this whole thing for kicks? Sounds like my kind of character. Having the keys to anywhere in the city and watching people react when he "gives them what they want".
I agree with the chaos approach, generally. However, I also think we have to accept that he was created as a goblin (although perhaps orc or ogre would have been better) for gameplay purposes and goblins tend to be red. At some level, there is function over continuity.
I'd be curious to see how he develops, as he is a character type that we have not seen too much of in Magic before...
