Is it weird that out of everything, I'm probably most excited about seeing some Fioran basic lands?
Did they explore Fiora that much in the comics for them to have the full colors represented well in land art? Somehow interesting how they gonna fit the other land arts in the setting of the plane.
Nope. Just the ruins of Drakeston and one kind of large city.
And he'd be better be good, or else them gameplay folks will be mad.
I know the guy who took the picture, IRL, and he tells me that the wotc folks at PAX told him that Dack's card is "very pushed" because they knew they didn't have to worry about standard or modern.
With the Dack Fayden connection (who's new art seems to have an italian/mediterranean vibe to it), I went back to look at the comics, and guess what I found:
Take a look at the window behind Magister of Worth art and the Spell Thief Issue #2 cover art, which takes place on Fiora. The window designs are nearly identical, which either means the artists used the same references/share similar taste in ornate circular windows, or they were following the same style guide. If you zoom in on Magister of Worth, you can make out a faint impression of the inner design on the windows on Magister of Worth (although it's pixellated and drowned out due to the light). Both also have the same large pattern, namely a 1/12th wedge of the circle with the same design. The biggest difference is that in the Angel art, the outer ring of designs is more rounded, but on closer look it's much more sharp like the cover art, it just looks rounded due to the angle and the light.
Design wise, that's an awful big coincidence. Granted, it's not really evidence, but with the other suspicions about Fiora, I thought it was interesting to note.
it seems that once again a good intent misfired Today's preview card is called Drakestown Forgotten. They apparently wanted to reference Dack's hometown. Pity it's called Drakeston in the comics, not Drakestown...
