Hello, good people of the Storyline Community! We're going to try something new here.
The purpose of this thread is to give Storyline users a place to shoot the breeze. Hopefully we can get to know each other a bit better outside the fact that we happen to enjoy Magic's rich lore! Anyone is welcome to participate.
All normal forum rules will be upheld in here, except that off-topic posts are encouraged and we'll be lenient on what's considered spam. Make sure you're adding something to the conversation, but as long as you're going with the flow of things, you should be fine. Baseless speculation will be allowed to a certain extent in here as well, but if it gets too ridiculous or starts to derail otherwise good conversation, we'll have to crack down on it.
Most importantly, have fun together! We hope you enjoy this thread!
Neat! I like this idea. Well, to start it off, my real name is Dan, and in addition to magic lore, I am in love with Doctor Who, tabletop rpgs, and movies.
I am actually a filmmaker, I have done mostly comedy and documentary work, but I have been looking in to getting involved with more serious fiction, namely sci-fi/fantasy drama. I am also desperately in love with radical politics, and my main goal through film is to change hearts and minds. I used to want to do documentaries, but then realized that documentaries are for people who already care. I thought about how many more people I know who got passionate, if even for a brief moment, after watching V for Vendetta, compared to Michael Moore's entire film history.
So, that is a bit about me. There is more in my signature, lol, that just kinda throws labels out there.

Hey Dan! Nice to meet you! My real name is Stardust, but I usually go by Steve (not joking).
So, one thing I've wondered about you in particular: where've you been for the past six years? You suddenly show up in Storyline making pretty decent posts about pretty awesome stuff, then I look at your join date and go, "Huh? Who is this guy?"
I assume you've heard of and/or played Shadowrun?
My friends and I used to play a lot, but haven't in years... because of life stuff... (moving, starting families, etc.). We stopped not long after 4th Edition was released (complete with a rules overhaul).
Man do I miss it though. Back in college (I graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science of Journalism) we used to go to a small, 24-hour diner and just make characters.
Not only is it a great game, but the actual "storyline" is excellent too. They built an excellent world. The novels are entertaining reads, though admittedly quick, easy reads.

My real name is Jacob. i'm 23 and am curently working on my bachelor's degree in communication & Multimedia. I hope to become a filmmaker when a graduate in 1,5 years. I'm still not sure what kind of films i will be making though. I do know i want to steer away from Hollywood's way of film making.
My favorite director's are : Kevin Smith, Jim Jarmusch, Dario Argento, John Carpenter and Tarantino. (i like his philosophie and mind set, not all his movies)
I've got a huge soft spot for Troma films and B-movies in general. I don't know why,but they're great fun, even though they're usualy not good movies.
I also collect films, my collection currently is 678 DVD's & 20 blu-rays.
My hobbies include playing Magic(commander, i use to play a great deal of Legacy). I've collected nearly all the Magic books and comics pre-mending. Cooking, sports and tending my Discus fish.
I'm also a kind of a beer connoisseur.

Hello all, my name is Joe (my handle came from playing the same WOW character for 6+ years). I'm an avid Magic player (I play Standard, Modern, Legacy, Limited and Commander), I read a lot of fantasy and sci-fi (Favorites are Wheet of Time, anything by Dan Abnett (Gaunts Ghosts etc..); and the Riftwar, Serpentwar, et al. by Raymond Feist), I have played table top roleplaying games in the past though currently my addiction to magic and my fiance keep me too busy to join a group, and I play a small niche of computer games. I'm currently working as Desktop Support Technician for a construction company, and (as mentioned above) I'm engaged to a woman who I can't imagine livign my life without. I also play Warhammer 40k and Fantasy when I can spare the time.
I read most of the books up through Kamigawa and enjoyed them, but got out of magic just before Ravnica hit, so my knowledge of the storyline is somewhat lacking from RAV until Alara (when I came back to the game).
I enjoy the idea of this thread and I hope that it becomes popular with the other regulars on this subforum.
Greetings from the Southeast portion of the world. My name is Jeff. I work as a Senior Soft Skills Trainer for a BPO office in the Philippines. I've been playing Magic since 1996. I became a little inactive from Mirrodin up to Eventide, and went back full-time in the game when Shards of Alara was released. Fell in love with Elspeth, Knight-Errant.
I play a lot of the alternative formats such as Commander and Planechase. Ever since I opened up my first booster pack (Mirage) and got Spirit of the Night as my first rare, I've always thought that legendary creatures should have a special role in games. I'm somewhere between a Spike and a Vorthos, and I love knowing more about the rich lore of Magic.
My life outside Magic: I'm a father of three wonderful kids, I jam with my bandmates (who, not surprisingly, are also avid Commander players) when we have the time, I'm a fan of indie music and films, and also a foodie.
I'm looking forward to the positive progression of this thread. Cheers!

I can definitely sympathize with not having a whole lot of spare time when you've got three kids! I only have one biological son myself (7 months), but my wife and I foster children so we usually have an extra two running around. Currently we've got an 11 month and 22 month old, but they're moving back home Saturday since their mom's back in shape, so that's good!
I'm also a big fan of music, playing guitar, bass, piano, accordion, djembe... and a few others. My living room is filled with instruments! What do you play in your band?
My kids are 5, 2 and my first daughter's turning 1 on the 25th. The first two are boys and are from my former partner. Fortunately I'm in good terms with her so I get to see the boys and take them out whenever time permits. My friends would often drop by our house if they wanna play a round or two of Commander, and that also translates to a bit of babysitting on their end.
I play rhythm guitars and also a bit of bass guitar and synthesizers. Our musical influences are really diverse (and silly at times), so whatever instrument I play during jam sessions would vary. I'm currently learning how to play the drums. It's a little tricky, but I want to learn as many instruments as I can for the sake of flexibility.
How's being a parent and a Magic player at the same time working for you so far Stardust?
When I got married we negotiated a bit and I agreed to go out and play Magic once a week (instead of the ~ two times a week I was doing before that). When my son was born, we agreed it'd be fair to drop that to once every two weeks since she's at home alone now pretty much all the time (and I do still play a lot of sports, so I'm going out at least once a week for that). I guess what I'm saying is, my Magic playing is scheduled now, but it still happens! My wife plays a bit too, but can't handle tourneys, so usually that's just a casual game of EDH every now and then.
I imagine it's nicer that you play in your house, though. I moved to a new city a couple of years ago, and though there a lot of good guys at my LGS, I don't feel like we're really at the level where I can just invite them over for a game.
All but one ex-partner/gf of mine was not involved with my Magic life. Everyone else was pretty much into it - knew it and was already playing before we met, was interested and influenced when we got together, wasn't playing but was helping me manage my expenditures and gains from selling and/or trading. With my work as a Senior Trainer and my responsibilities as a dad, I also find it hard to play as much as I did back then. Commander is the perfect format for me - I really didn't have to be up-to-date to play and it didn't require a lot since rotation doesn't exist in the format.
The only people I invite over to my house are my bandmates and really close friends. It's pretty fun whenever they're at my house because apart from the usual jam and Commander rounds we cook and go on DVD marathons.
Sounds like fun! Commander is also my favourite, for a few reasons. Mostly it's the flavour involved in deckbuilding, but the game play is usually over-the-top excellent compared to Standard (or any 60-card format that I've played) and the fact that it never rotates makes it easy to keep on top of things despite not playing constantly anymore.
I also collect legendary creatures... so I guess that's a tie in there, huh?
Do you have a favourite deck at the moment? I just built a new one last week (Horobi, Death's Wail) that's been a lot of fun so far!
Hi from Queensland in Australia! I'm a Uni student, and I'm heavily involved in theatre, not onstage but backstage. I like working on the Sound/Lighting/Stage Management side of things and my uni course is geared toward this. Occasionally things get really intense and full-on with uni & theatre life, so it's nice to have MtG as something separate to fall back into.
I started playing Magic waaaaay back in high school, back when original Mirrodin had just rotated in. I've been on/off since then, and am enjoying it more than ever. When I'm working on a show I don't really get much time to play at my LGS, but there's a good crowd there that welcome me back each time I'm gone for a week or three. I prefer Commander/EDH but it's hard to get a playgroup together for that (with availability that yo-yo's like mine) so I normally swing by for the scheduled things like drafts and FNMs.
I got into the Storyline side of things after reading a bunch of flavour text and wanting to know more, so I picked up the Mirrodin books and went from there! I've got a folder of all the Storyline characters I can get, but I haven't decided whether or not to include Planeswalkers in that yet, I'm a bit of a purist and prefer the legends.
I've been a long time reader, but only recently started contributing, and I really like the Storyline community here. Nice to see a thread like this!
Hey guys, my name is Hamza, and I started playing Magic back in 2008, back when Shards of Alara came out. I'm 22 years old, and live in Roswell, NM (where the aliens landed >.>). I'll admit that I hardly ever post in the storyline forum, but I do have a bit of Vorthos in me, and I enjoy reading the threads on here. EDH is really the only format I play these days, but I have been considering getting into Cube recently.
Something about me: I'm an aspiring lyricist. It is something I have a passion for. I actually have a song up on iTunes (and Amazon mp3), but I've quickly realized that getting it on there was the easy part. Getting it recognized by putting it on the radio (or whatever) is kinda hard -.-. Other than that, I enjoy playing tennis, watching movies, hanging out with friends, and all that fun stuff. Oh, and Stardust, I also collect legends :).
Fun fact: Hamza is an Arabic name that means "brave fighter."
Awesome, I'd been waiting for a Storyline sandbox thread. I'm a huge enthusiast for the Magic storyline, caring more about the world behind the game rather than the game itself. With Alara being my favorite block, I was angry to see the novel series was cut to one book per block. That's how the story in my sig came to life.
I have twenty EDH decks built, each of them with an original character and a story behind it. Check out my blog--I'll link a sample here.
Sweet! I'm just trying for one of each Legend, preferably from the original printing where possible (unless the new art is better, like Squee), and am really close to having it complete. Aside from a few legends printed in the last year, I'm only missing nine to complete my collection! The list of ones I'm missing is in my trade thread (linked in my sig) if anyone's interested.
Is your collection the same one of each? Do you have them all already, or are there some holes?

I'm just doing one-ofs like you. And I've only just started collecting recently (I have around 126), so I still have quite a ways to go. A part of it is also that I don't bother getting legendary cards that I need that are in bad condition.

This reminds me of a custom commander tournament we once held in our area. Good to know that there are people out there who care about the lore that the game can offer us.
So, one thing I've wondered about you in particular: where've you been for the past six years? You suddenly show up in Storyline making pretty decent posts about pretty awesome stuff, then I look at your join date and go, "Huh? Who is this guy?"
Well, TBH, I was kind of homeless and poor for awhile. Or, as I liked to call it, "homeful." I have so many amazing friends and family, that while I was homeless, I didn't have to spend more than a couple nights outside. For the most part, I stayed at various friends houses.
But that only lasted like 6 months while I saved up money and started renting out a room at my friends apt. Before and after that, there are 3 other reasons I wasn't posting on here: A)In and out of magic. B)Didn't have internet. C)Was reading the forums but didn't have much to say. Those 3 reasons kinda cycled around, until finally, I was like, hey, I want to post again. lol
I have heard of it, but never played it. I have always been a DnD 3.5 player. Played a bit of the star wars rpg, and a bit of deadlands(only one adventure ) Currently, I am in an awesome Pathfinder campaign, where I play a two-weapon critical nerdy fighter.
And Volrath--we should talk film sometime.

Not all that long, actually. It was early last year sometime, so maybe a year and a half? I started it because I was bored with trading and needed a new goal, so that's 100% through just trading cards, no purchases whatsoever.
A few of the guys at my LGS helped me out a lot. They would bring in stacks of old crap rares and trade me sometimes thirty or forty legends at a time for a fetchland or two! Worked for me, and for them they were getting a valuable card for a bunch of crap. Win win! Lots of the older, tougher ones I got more recently through trading on this site.
I can say that my trade binder is worth much much less than it was before, though. Guess that'll happen when you have several hundred dollars worth of cards sitting in your closet.
I'm just doing one-ofs like you. And I've only just started collecting recently (I have around 126), so I still have quite a ways to go. A part of it is also that I don't bother getting legendary cards that I need that are in bad condition.
Yeah, I'm not too concerned with condition. Most of mine are NM, but there are a few with little nicks here and there. My Rofellos and Lord of Tresserhorn are very beat up.
Good luck finding the rest! Once you finally get all the Kamigawa legends, you'll feel so good!
I just restarted collecting Legendaries for a two-fold purpose: Collection's sake and for the convenience of getting a general. I'm quite happy I still have my Lu Bu, Master-At-Arms. I know P3K's going to be my greatest challenge.
Has anyone completed the legendaries that P3K had to offer? Mad props if you have.
I got the Lu Bu, Master-At-Arms from a junior league tournament back in '98. It was a fun tourney because it was an under 18 tourney and the organizers were very friendly. If I'm not mistaken Lu Bu was the prerelease card for P3K.
I don't consider the judge foil Xiahou Dun, the One-Eyed and the FTV Sun Quan, Lord of Wu as part of the P3K collection, as they're not same-set prints. It's funny how random P3K cards would pop up in some unvisited or relatively unknown hobby shop here - I remember seeing (and neglecting) an Imperial Seal back in '99 in a stash of commons/uncommons - I didn't understand the value of tutoring back then and was so afraid of the drawback - 2 life. Whoever has that Seal now, well, he's one lucky fella.
I am a high school English teacher. I haven't played Magic since I was in high school, but have always been a storyline follower. In the old days of MtGNews, I counted myself as a guru, ranging in familiarity with all of the Armada comics, the prerevisionist novels, and the new set of novels beginning with The Brothers' War (as well as bits of pieces in between, like the Planeswalker War history and tidbits). I was big into making everything work (there were fewer plot-holes, then, but enough arose); I led the idea of the Center of Consciousness theory for planeswalkers at the time--basically, the rules for planeswalkers, as each author tended to portray their abilities a bit differently.
The people I've met on Magic Storyline boards have always been a great bunch. I disappeared for quite a few years around Time Spiral (although I stopped playing and collecting around Torment), but read through the second book of Kamigawa before picking up the "new" novels beginning with Alara Unbroken. I enjoy fiction, and Magic has been a great means to meet new people in the past--I was part of the Home Grown Magic League (HGML) in the early 2000s (a card-making group, the first of it's kind, as I recall) and worked storyline there, too.
As for Magic cards themselves, I played casually, but was more a collector. My complete sets range from Antiquities, Ice Age, and then Stronghold through Apocalypse. I still have them, but think I should probably sell them, as they're mint and I have no use for them other than sentimental value.
I always felt that my vocabulary is what it is due to Magic cards--"Sylvan Library," cephalids, etc. Root words are key!
Other than teach (and I also teach a film elective, as I saw some of you are film-oriented), I enjoy theatre (viewing and performing, especially Shakespeare) and volunteer teaching English during my summers. I'm a perpetual student, always taking graduate courses. As my signature indicates, I like to dabble in creative writing, but I havent' recently allowed time for that.
I've been hovering a lot the past few years, and as my post count shows, post only occassionally as the conversation moves me.
It's awesome to see new Storyline faces among some established fans!

Talrand, Sky Summoner (my 1v1, counter-heavy competitive deck)
Jhoira of the Ghitu (yes, the griefer version for multiplayer competitive)
Mirri the Cursed (1v1 aggro, semi-Voltron)
Oona, Queen of the Fae (combo-loop)
and then there's the fun ones like...
Soraya the Falconer (just birds all the way)
Oyobi, Who Split the Heavens (Spirits!)
Isamaru, Hound of Konda (White Zoo/Voltron)
I guess I love Isamaru the most because he's aggro, non-griefer and the build I made had zoo creatures. Too bad Overrun's green.

Has anyone completed the legendaries that P3K had to offer? Mad props if you have.
Ah, yeah, forgot to mention that they were excluded from my original list. Maybe someday, but as it is now I own zero P3K legends.
It certainly is convenient to be able to just build whatever deck you want to though!
EDIT: You're lucky you live in the Philippines. I bet it'll be easier to get P3K in that area of the world since they were never marketed in America.
