No. While you are free to voice concern and critiques for Uncharted Realms, if it EVER gets as inflammatory as the StF critics, I will make it rain infractions.
I want to stress, you can express your negative opinions, but do so in an adult manner. Which people did NOT do in regards to StF.
But yeah, you can say you didn't like this week's article. You can say you don't like Jenna's style, those are fine. Just... never act like people did in regards to StF.
Just read through a few of those old "Current State of STF" posts, and you have a point.
We were pretty bad, weren't we?
I don't think I personally was that mean and vicious when i voiced my displeasure, but I could be wrong. I promise to be nicer if Jenna posts something I don't like (which i hope doesn't happen for a looooooooooooooooong time)
I'm guessing they have plans for the "no fixed location in the blind eternities" aspect of the plane, but didn't like the old locations enough to keep them (and there are barely any players who would still be familiar with them, anyway). That would be a legitimate reason to "reboot" Shandalar this way. Better than suddenly having a second wandering plane, in my opinion.
The story was great. The high-res art, however, resonates with *me* thematically, being a huge fan of steampunk aesthetic as well as an avid skeleton key collector.
More than that, the ending was completely out of left field. What the heck was the deal with that?
Yeah, the "twist" was not that well executed, among other things. Miller isn't as good an author as Jenna.
I wonder how often there will be guest authors for the column? It seems like a reasonable solution to putting out short stories on a weekly basis, and I am interested to see who else will contribute.
I liked the Garruk story, and I LOVED last week's piece, but this week's story just didn't do it for me.
I think it was a style problem--it reminded me of my early college years (circa 1999) on various fan fiction boards. The idea was a good one (clockwork creation runs amok and turns on its quite insane maker) but the prose just wasn't at the level I'd expect from the Mothership. I also found the "twist" ending hard to follow, though I admit I was reading it at 12:15 AM while trying to comfort a scared doggy during a storm, so I wasn't exactly operating a peak efficiency.
I'll probably give it another shot tonight and see if I like it better on a second read. Reaction on here seems more positive that negative, so maybe it's just me.
I agree with you, the quality of the writing was a bit below par. But it's not like Ryan Miller writes fiction for a living, so I'm not holding it against him. It's a fine piece for an amateur writer. If it were Jenna producing the same quality of work I'd be a lot more critical.
The story lost me when the main character we've been repeatedly told was one-armed, washed his hands. I assume it was a typo, but it pulled me out of an already shaky narrative. At least there was no gratuitous thesaurus waving this week, thankfully.

It wasn't a typo, just a easily-made misunderstanding. He only lost his arm 6 years ago. He was making clocks for decades. He had washed the filings and oil off his hands long before he lost one hand.
Relevant parts:
He had lost his left arm to the creeping plague that had been his constant companion for the past six years—the plague turned the strange clockmaker into the village pariah. He was certain that, were it not for his rare skills, he would have been cast out into the snow-covered forest and forgotten long ago.
For decades, he had scrubbed a similar mixture from his own hands at the end of a long day's work.
Anyway, I liked all the stories so far. This Chronomaton one was not as well executed as the other two and was really reaching to incorporate some other cards (I had to reread to see how Wild Guess was connected), but it wasn't close to horrid or cringe-worthy, so I'll accept it. Looking forward to the next installment.

That was one creepy story. Probably my favorite of the ones they've written so far. I'll never look at Chronomaton the same way again.
Absolutely, I'm actually really liking Uncharted Realms. It's nice to be getting these weekly stories.

I can accept that it might have been a misunderstanding. All I'm saying is it took me out of the story and reminded me I was reading a computer screen. Maybe I'm being nitpicky, but 'hand' instead of 'hands', regardless of accuracy, would've sounded better.

I agree that the sentence could use a rewording. As is, it is confusing. I had to reread the sentence before I got what was meant, and I see how the sentence can be jarring. It works as is now in regards to continuity, but I am sure there was a better way to phrase it. Changing to "hand" would have sacrificed accuracy and sounded better, yes. I don't think that little bit of accuracy needed to be lost at all, though. I am sure there is some alternative wording of the sentence that would sound better as well as staying in continuity by avoiding "hands" altogether.

From the sound of it, she changed her name, became leader, and was set to be dethroned by Aurelia. Then Krenko went and framed her in order not to get caught. I assumed she was either banished or killed.
Though about the feather he got for Taz, I wonder if it was once Razia's?
If I had to guess at the identity of Mr. Taz... I'd say it's the new Dimir guildleader, the shapeshifter. Can't remember his name at the moment.
I definitely wasn't expecting information about Feather this quickly. I assumed it would be something tucked into an infodump or in the Planeswalker's Guide.

At first, I was going to argue that he was some kind of bloating Orzhov patriarch, but this makes more sense now that I think about it. Collecting Feather's feathers, raiding Orzhova, stirring up trouble through intermediaries...sounds like a Dimir plan coming together.
Though why the Dimir would still exist under a new Guildpact remains to be explained.
Taz being this Moriarty like character paying to have pieces moved is great.
I love krenko being very predictable and honest, yet still lovable.
he's not dumb, he just wants money, and he wants it now.
So feather was sealed in some cage,
and krenko pretty much put a nail in the coffin on the now former guild leader?

I'm sure they'd find a way to weasel their way into whatever circumstances surrounded the creation of a new guildpact (assuming that is what happened).
We don't know the details of what went down at Sunhome... but we know that Aurelia's the guildmaster now, so Feather's either incarcerated or dead, most likely.
I certainly do enjoy the fact that Krenko is actually intelligent, contrasting the parade of dopey goblins we usually get. Even the other goblins mentioned seem a lot more like an oppressed minority than comic relief goofballs, and that's an angle I can get behind.

Her writing is the only thing I bother going to the mothership for.
Anxiously awaiting Garruk's meeting with Avacyn.
Big Thanks to Xeno for sig art <3.
It's going to be glorious...
Two of my current storyline favorite characters in one one shot story. I hope that it will come soon (not 2014 soon).

Among other things, it answers a question a lot of people have had lately since we found out about the guild structure in Return to Ravnica block.
