Looks like this is true. Gideon is from Theros and was a legendary creature who is famous on the plane. His Magic: Origins story is him as a child on Theros.
Where'd you find this?
Previews from the "last core set", Magic: Origins, and the PC game Magic Duels: Origins (following the duels of the planeswalkers line) reveals that.

Let this great clan rest in peace (2001-2011)
1) basically saying that you do not read it because you dislike the version 1.0 of the character, whereas this character has the same name, but by definition of this block's story, it has to be different. It is like saying: Hey, I did not like this sour green Granny Smith apple, so thank you, I refuse to eat this sweet red one (whereas it is something completely different in taste, and the only common thing is that it is also an apple.)
2) Adding to it, you are making a decision not to read it based on very short and simplified overview done by other user, and saying "sounds lame" sounds silly to me.
But feel free to rob yourself of the experience of reading it. I just had to react, and I consider the matter closed now.
I don't because I do not appreciate the condescending notions in your post.
1. The character is still just kung fu master tropes. Even more so now that the red is gone. This is a boring archetype to me, and I don't care for it on main characters. Masters that train the rambunctious lead, who then die to spur on their wards into coming into their own? Those guys are cool. Main character that is the master? Not cool to me.
2. That user summed it up succinctly, and I thank him for it. The plot sounds lame, and since I don't care for the character, I probably wouldn't care for the story. Because if the plot is unappealing, yet the word count is that high, it means that it's mostly character bits padding it out, no?
I won't argue here, it is a matter of personal taste. Maybe only for Beyer - he is good for short stories, but woefully lacking in longer works (Alara Unbroken, Secretist). Fully agreed on Digges and Helland.
And just to be on the same page, I said she has talent. Nothing about whether it is or it is not well-written.
Hate to break this to you, but every single opinion is just that: an opinion. I don't see a need to preface every post I make with "In my opinion."
Narset is an awful character. Do I need to add "In my opinion" to that too?
So each of the dragonlords says hey, not only no more khans, and no more clans, but don't even mention it and no one will ever speak the words and act as if all of your past history and culture never existed, there's no way that can be anything but the worst kind of oppressive.
Don't forget that the penalty for referencing the old culture is death, even with Kolaghan who Alesha fooled herself into thinking wouldn't be an oppressor.
It's all pretty ridiculous, but we're supposed to believe Tarkir's better off now lol.
In my opinion the dragon lords brought out the best in each culture without the cultures even knowing it.
I object to this notion. We saw in Khans of Tarkir that the clans were all thriving, even though they were at constant war with each other. I don't think the dragons bring out the best in Abzan culture, which is heavily weighted to tradition and longevity, by destroying their traditions and wiping away the very symbol of their culture's longevity in the kin-trees.
Likewise, I also don't think the dragons bring out the best in the Mardu because nobody would ever challenge a dragon to a fight. The Mardu in KTK was strong because the strongest led, and there was always someone else that could take control should that leader falter. Kolaghan doesn't have that, and no young Mardu warrior has the aspiration of someday leading. Stagnation is the very opposite of what the KTK Mardu believed.
"Only the weak imprison themselves behind walls. We live free under the wind, and our freedom makes us strong."—Zurgo, khan of the Mardu
Constant movement, constant upgrading: that's what's at the heart of Mardu culture. I mean, in current Tarkir Zurgo is a coward. That's the culture Kolaghan created, and I think it's far less majestic than it once was/could have been.
The same pretty much applies to every clan, but this post is long enough and I don't wanna go into more detail.

The fact that I continue to live in a country run (mostly) by white USAians whose ancestors were culturally insensitive racist ********s is annoying, but being righteously angry at it cannot be on my mind at all times when I have the mundane tasks of daily living to take care of.

But did he?
Only the one repository was destroyed.
According to the Narset POV, accessing the archive was "all but forbidden":
"As she raced to the nearest scroll, desperate, she was vaguely aware of where she must be. It had to be an ancient archive, a place that she had only heard of in legend, a place that Ojutai had all but forbidden. She did not care, could not care—all she could feel was the need to search, to seek, to know."
Did Ojutai relent? Change his policy? Or did the monks save the scrolls against Ojutai's will? If they defied him, did he tolerate it as a sort of test for his masters? If he found the repository at Dirgur, he must have suspected that there were others. The latest story does not seem to have him judging Narset for having investigated.
Does Ugin have his own brand of mind manipulation magic?
I find it suspicious that Sarkhan forgot about Narset(I am going to overlook that sarkhan the unbroken can turn into a dragon in the trailer )
Although understandably The trailer would be longer or more expensive with any mention of Narset (also mushy love story may not fit with the demographics).
Despite the reletivle minor criticism on the trailer plotwise, the visuals is quite impressive as it is an improvement compared to the previous trailers.
Edit: forgot to talk about voice work. I am guessing someone that sounds like James Earl Jones (I may be wrong).
Also that accent sounds familiar.
Anyways awesome voice work. I wonder is the actor told to think of reverence of some sort when addressing Ugin as part of method acting.
On Ojutai - I don't think Ojutai's as restrictive as he was 1,280 years ago. Then he was warring constantly with the Khans, the Jeskai were trained to specifically deal with him. Now that he had won the war and effectively taken over the Jeskai and no one inside actually thinks of killing him, he could afford to let go his restrictions for more knowledge.
They wanted to differentiate Ojutai from the Azorius, so in a way Ojutai's more UW than the Azorius' WU. I don't think Ojutai personally thinks he's actually the absolute smartest around, but needs to assert his authority in order to maintain order. He will show respect to those who have knowledge different from his, as long as they still respect his authority, the Jeskai then didn't, but Narset 1.1 did.
Man, Sarkhan is just abhorrent to me. Every time he talks about this great new Tarkir, it sounds like this:
"Yes, I finally brought back nuclear bombs! Mankind had grown so weak just shooting each other with guns, but now they can bask in the glory of the mushroom cloud again! Look how beautiful the Tundra looks scattered with radiated craters! Finally this world is as I want it to be, and it only took the deaths of thousands and the utter enslavement of humanity!"
Seriously, dude... you're a raving lunatic and need to be stopped.
Narset's story was quite interesting though. My first thought was that Ojutai maybe had a hidden agenda - perhaps he simply wanted Narset to planeswalk away so she won't make trouble with her knowledge? Though of course he might just not see that knowledge as a threat anymore, having been in power as the revered Great Teacher for over a thousand years. Or maybe he has actually grown more fond of humans in that time. In that case, Narset's assessment that Ojutai has bettered Tarkir on the whole might actually be correct. Gathering knowledge for centuries and using it to build a society you can share it with is not the worst thing ever. Still strange that Narset didn't call him out at all for being a thought-policing tyrant back in the day though.

While it is true that he's as nutty as a fruitcake, he did do something objectively good for everyone (except the people of Tarkir) by saving Ugin. Now the Eldrazi can be stopped.
The plot of this block is still pretty dumb though.
i guess Sorin will release Ugin. Bitter Revelation no longer, i think.
With the next block confirmed to be taking place on Zendikar, I have to wonder whether Ugin and Sorin get new cards in the block immediately after the block they last received new cards.
Obviously, they both have a big part to play in the Eldrazi storyline, but I wonder whether, considering that Nissa's Uncharted Realms from this summer indicated that Emrakul and Kozilek have left Zendikar, Sorin and Ugin could be part of a larger planning strategy and don't get directly involved in the fight against Ulamog on Zendikar.
From the art shown so far, we can bet that Gideon is a major player in BFZ, and Doug explicitly said at the panel that "we haven't seen the last of Nahiri," so she's likely in, too (Zendikar is her home plane. Where else would she show up?).
What about the other three (MaRo recently said that there'll be around 5 planeswalkers per block going forward)? Ob Nixilis seems like a given, with all of the teasing that they've done about him with his card in M15 and his Uncharted Realms from this past summer. Finally, given the fact that they specifically made Kiora's backstory be that she was a native of Zendikar who was gathering powerful sea creatures together to go back and fight the Eldrazi -- and the fact that they probably created this backstory around the time that they were developing BFZ (this element of Kiora's character wasn't present in the original DotP 2012 description), Kiora also seems like an auto-include.
So at this point, it's getting kind of crowded. Jace, Chandra, and Nissa all have connections to the situation on Zendikar. Chandra mostly because of her involvement/connection with Gideon. Jace because he seems to feel responsible for maintaining the stability of the Multiverse on some level. And Nissa obviously because she lives on Zendikar and because of her role in releasing the Eldrazi to begin with.
I would venture a guess that because Jace and Chandra are getting new cards in Magic Origins, we won't be seeing them in planeswalker card form in BFZ block. I would say the same about Nissa and Gideon, except that Gideon looks to be the "face" of the set a la Liliana in Innistrad, Jace in RTR, Elspeth in Theros, and Sarkhan in Khans/Dragons, he'll probably get a nice, pushed card. And the central theme of Nissa's character has been her connection to Zendikar and her role in the Eldrazi's release, so I'd guess she'd be in the block, too, but that could change based on how they told her Magic Origins story this summer.
The raw number of planeswalkers involved in this storyline makes be think that the Eldrazi arc will span multiple blocks and multiple worlds. We'll see, though.

I very much hope you are correct in this, but by the same merit, they said they chose these 5 walkers to feature in Origins specifically because they would be playing a role in the future story.
Now, Chandra I still feel has very little impetus to be involved since the Eldrazi aren't even on her radar. If Gideon goes back to Regatha (which I don't know why he would) and drags her along, I could see that.
As for Jace, I REALLY hope they tie him back into what is going on with Liliana because they loved each other once. Liliana just loved herself more than she loved him.... and quite frankly, Liliana could use the humanizing influence of someone she cares about. Nissa and Gideon are kind of obvious plants for Zendikar.
I would hope the final outlook would be Nissa, Kiora, Gideon and MAYBE Sorin and Nahiri...
of course, that lovely specter "color balance" rears its head, which means we're staring at 3 white walkers, 2 green ones, a blue, a black, and no red... but I still really would rather they didn't get Chandra back in the Zendikar storyline because she has her own pursuits. It would, at least, make sense (so long as they rope Gideon in), but what she has going on is already much more interesting.
I'm fairly sure they don't color balance when considering walkers. At least they've said that much.
They have... but then they kind of hedged that by saying they look for characters to fill what they want in the set. That's why Ashiok ended up being made.
I very much hope you are correct in this, but by the same merit, they said they chose these 5 walkers to feature in Origins specifically because they would be playing a role in the future story.
In fairness their choices for mono-red walkers are pretty limited, to the point that Chandra's the only 'walker they've never kicked out of the core set. (ETA: Other than Jace. Technically Garruk, but for M15 he got shifted from "the green walker" to "the multicolor mythic".) Koth's story is entirely tied up with Mirrodin, Sarkhan just had a whole block to himself, who actually likes Tibalt? and Daretti would be completely out of left field.
Personally I'm hoping Sorin and Ugin take a backseat in this one and we get Nahiri, a Nissa Worldwaker reprint (won't be in Origins, assuming all the walkers are DFCs), and possibly Kiora. Would be a real treat if she got reprinted in Standard after her recent Duel Deck release.

I could see us having another run at Sorin, but I could believe Ugin would have other priorities at seeing how far gone Zendikar may or may not be. He has plenty of other things to attend to that are sure to have gotten out of hand in his absence.

Doug has kind of hinted that Gideon leans a little bit red, so it's entirely possible that he could be RW. We haven't had such a color alignment on a planeswalker since Ajani Vengeant, and maybe there's a big demand for a Boros 'walker? As much as they say that they don't do color box-checking for planeswalkers, it looks like we got every color on the spectrum represented by planeswalkers for each block starting with Innistrad (we've actually had it for every block since Lorwyn except for Scars, which was missing green), so it's clearly something that they're aware of. Plus, with Nahiri possibly showing up, the field is disproportionately represented by white planeswalkers (Ajani, Gideon, Elspeth (who's "dead" but strongly hinted to possibly return (hopefully not with an upper case "R")), and now Nahiri). They may just decide that Gideon, being the most "super hero vigilante type" planeswalker out there, would be the best fit for a RW alignment.
Nicol Bolas would nicely balance out the abundance of WG. Although he played a minor role in the current block story, he must have some bigger scheme involving the Eldrazi and he would probably be interested in the large gathering of heroes. Perhaps he shall finally spring his trap?

Bolas is on the same level as the Eldrazi as far as "Multiverse-spanning threats" are concerned. Creative isn't going to use him in the same story as the Eldrazi as a central figure. They'll save him for sometime when he's the "big bad" of the story. Heck, it even appears from the spoiled art that only Ulamog remains on Zendikar, so they may have just split up three Eldrazi titans themselves into separate storylines for more material, making it all the more unlikely that Bolas would make an appearance.
