It's the latter. Making the (biological) children of planeswalkers planeswalkers themselves is frowned upon because it's really, really unlikely. The spark does not inherently pass on from parent to offspring, but it doesn't prevent the offspring from having a spark.

Even if it were hereditary, the probability of having a spark is one in a million, and the probability of that spark igniting is one in a million, so the probability of being a planeswalker is one in a trillion (short scale) or a billion (long scale). So it'd be like having a family history of some very rare disease. Not really a concern normally, but you might want to avoid marrying a cousin.
Even if we assume the spark is recessive, there's still igniting the spark. You've improved your odds from one in 10^12 to one in a million.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
I hadn't read the Dragon's Maze novel, so I didn't know that Jace could still planeswalk being the new guildpact and all. I was sort of hoping they'd give Jace a break, and we would get to see a different core set planeswalker for blue next year, oh well. Funny comic!

Very "entertaining," Moppi. I did get a nice laugh; the metaphor is totally workable--and I never expected Jace to have such a nice body! LOL
Keep up the good work!
I was fighting the urge to make his body built in tune with his overall character (with many people aggreeing in the Jace vs. Vraska thread in the Rumor Mill that he should be flabby)... but I stand in the side of beefcake... so off with that thought. = 3 =

We have two examples of Jace's level of fitness in the books.
Test implies that his default state is a bit pudgy. It seems to me that he is fit "enough" from all the trouble he gets himself into, but doesn't go out of his way to work out.
The Secretist says that whenever he gets into one of his moods, wherein he finds a subject that fascinates him and he can't stop researching it, that he becomes emaciated. He tends to forgo such trivialities such as eating and sleeping and bathing, and that it takes its toll on him.
Moppi--I like it! I love the reference to Lili's demons and her quest for perpetual youth/beauty... no new art, but at least she doesn't look worse than when we first met her, right? Even after losing two demons?
As for your interest in Magic and your comment at the end of the strip... I haven't played or purchased a card in over 10 years, but I have stayed connected to the story and still read through card spoilers and card image galleries. I agree that the art has been wonderful, I'm indifferent about angels, but I too have appreciated the nod to LGBTQ. Keep working at the strips--I have appreciated them (silently) from the start!

Haha I laughed at the Jace one. I think he alternates between being a little pudgy to being very lean and slim, but not muscular. The hotness is with Venser. Now there's a strapping lad... or was. >_>
Well, maybe she gets recycled art because the art only looks a couple months old?
Hey, look at it this way, Garruk is the face of M15. I mean, yeah, that face is currently cursed by Venom, err, I mean, Liliana. (Seriously, the Chain Veil is like Venom. Except Liliana wasn't as benevolent as Peter Parker to begin with.)

And Jace is apparently a strapping lad as well now. Or is that a typo?

I think the problem with updating Planeswalker artwork is that people would immediately see it as a sign of a version of the 'walker. That's why the only alternate artworks have been in decks or promos and not in card sets.
Imagine if we found out that Sarkhan was still Sarkhan the Mad and he was just getting a new artwork next set? Yeah, people would be pretty pissed.
Sarkhan the Mad is best in Spanish (Sarkhan el loco), the bit about recycling her art because it was only a few months old could have been a smashing VI punch line. I love VI so much. The game itself gets stale and annoying at times but continuity and flavor fails last forever!
