I just finished reading the original Ravnica Trilogy and I'm a little confused as to where Aurelia could have come from. It is my understanding that Feather is the only Angel remaining on Ravnica, so where did this other angel come from, along with all of the other new angels?
Right now, we don't have any answers.
But I shot this exact question to Brady not 3 hours ago over at Gleemax.
It... might be a while before we have an answer.
Largely, thanks to the Dissension entry in Ravnica: Then and Now, it looks like they are glossing over Szadek's massacre.
That is our only indication of what's happened, basically "Ignore the man behind the curtain" for this one.
If Brady turns up any new info for us, I'll let everyone know but until then we have only a small sliver of evidence to go on and everything else would be speculation.
I'd assume whatemver method used to create the Razia clones such as Feather either:
1. Still had Razia's "info on file" so more clones could be created.
2. Feather could just take Razia's place in the process to create "Feather Clones."

If that were the case, she'd be a seriously ungrateful little (expletive withheld) to challenge what amounts to her mother.
There would also be issues surrounding how she found out about Feather's disgrace as well, considering it happened a LONG time before the decamillenia.
The first time i heard about Aurelia taking over, i had the feeling she i some kind of Dimir shapeshifter, or otherwise somehow set up by Dimir. Reading discussions on angels now, it looks like it is not a clever ploy, but rather another retcon. Probably when Szadek went to Slobad country, he took his massacre with him.

Oh, he still murdered the crap out of a LOT of angels. Just not quite so many as... y'know ALL of them.
(which once again makes Feather's initial rise to guildmaster... weird and unfeasible.)
Wasn't Krenko collecting angel feathers in one of the first RTR flavor entries we got? I'm pretty sure the person he was working for appeared to be Dimir. Might it possibly relate to an attempt by the Dimir to gain influence over the Boros?
Knowing how they don't really care about story continuity anymore I suspect it doesn't mean anything, but I'm semi-hopeful.
Original: All the angels were slaughtered except Feather.
Ret-con: Oh wow look a bunch of them secretly survived because they had a Macguffin that let them survive in, like, say, a pocket dimension or something.
Hey Wizards I can write this stuff if you need someone.

More exciting than Quest for Karn, and better continuity than Test of Metal.

Maybe Szadek just killed all the angels( except Feather) from the city of Ravnica if so the plane may have other type of angels.
They are explicitly called Firemane angels, meaning they were of that exact kind.
There were also the Angels of Despair, but once again, those were created by a specific set of people implying that angels do not naturally manifest.
I wonder what exactly is Creative's thought process to retcon the wings? I mean, it's not like it's a HUGE deal that needs to change; it's just a small detail that most players probably wouldn't even notice, but it's interesting to us. Did no one in Creative remember how many wings the angels were supposed to have? Did they thought it was aesthetically ugly? Did the brand team force them to make "normal" angels?
I still say aurelia was planted as boros guild leader by some scheming conniving mastermind... She's not of the firemane line, and seems more warmongering than all of those were...
You don't really have any evidence supporting that, and that's coming dangerously close to baseless speculation.
Aside from that, the Firemane line have been visually changed, to a great deal of annoyance, so you can't even say she's not a firemane. Her personality really isn't that much different from Razia, she's just more hands on.
There has been one theory I didn't see in here. At the time of original Rav, the flavor and develop teams didn't have complete understanding of each other. Niv was written as the only remaining dragon on Ravnica. But there were plenty of dragon cards in the set. There's a slight alteration between the ambitious Blood-Witch of the novels and the one in print.
Yes there are theories of her being a Dimir sleeper-agent, that some angels somehow were not taken on the ship to the schism, Feather cloned herself sometime afterward.
And remember, these angels, as most in the Multiverse, are borne of magic and personify Justice. Of course with the Orzhov angels, there's the quote from Razia explaining them.
You don't really have any evidence supporting that, and that's coming dangerously close to baseless speculation.
You right, too close to baseless speculation, but there is clearly something suspicious about her, so that a lot of people feel it. Time will tell, though frankly, as much as i feel so too and it would be a good twist, it seems too subtle for WotC to pull.
Yeah but that's just an image name. It's not official or an explanation or admission...
It's a firemane angel. With two wings. On an official Magic card made by Wizards of the Coast. Seems pretty black and white to me. If WotC wanted the firemane angels to continue to have four wings, then they would have told the artist, Wayne Reynolds, to draw Firemane Avenger with four wings. It's as simple as that. Even if Wayne had simply forgotten to draw four wings on Firemane Avenger, then WotC would have sent the art back, and told him to add an extra pair of wings. WotC sends art back to the artists in order to correct mistakes all the time, and several of these mistakes are far more minor than the artist failing to draw the correct number of wings on an angel.
They've been doing this regularly since we went back to Mirrodin. The goblins of both Mirrodin and Ravnica were visually changed.
For some reason, they decided to change the Firemane angels, we don't know why, but it's clear they have.
I thinking she formed naturally. Maybe angels here work like demons on Innistrad and Aurelia was recycled from the mana of the killed angles. Also maybe she has been cloning herself as well and the new angles are clones of her.

Aren't Boros angels (or at least their Firemane kind) supposed to have two pairs?
Yes, which is part of the reason why people are wondering where Aurelia came from. There is a possibility it was a retcon of the original Ravnica.
Cōnservātum album delenda est.
To much annoyance if the case may be so. (not the surviving angel thing, the lack of unique wings.)

Go to the Gatecrash Card Image Gallery. Look for the card "Firemane Avenger". Count how many wings she has.
A clear-cut case of a firemane angel with only 2 wings.
