Who do you think would say something to the giant terrible dragon?
My money is on Tezzeret, who is then stunned and flabberghasted that Bolas was unaware of it.
Or maybe Jace will use it to defeat Bolas in a FINAL BATTLE.
Yeah, in Test of Metal, it's revealed that Bolas has a secondary nerve cluster at the base of his tail that is capable of equal brain function as the one in his head.
Like the dinosaurs, except with great intelligence.
Edit: Actually, Bolas might have a third one located between his wings as well, but I'm too lazy to go get my copy of the book to double check. Two for certain though, possibly as many as three.
They're called ganglia (sing. ganglion) and are present in many forms of life. They're not technically brains, but destroying one of them can disable the animal. It isn't lethal though, as shown by insects who survive decapitation only to starve due to not having a mouth.

And Bolas proves he can actually think higher brain function thoughts with them.
yep, that's how it would go.
Especially since Jace has never tried to read a being with multiple brains like Bolas.
He did in Test of Metal, when Batrice and Jace attacked Zombies Jace tried to read Bolas's mind, he wasn't successful but he saw Tezzeret's device there.

He has three, where you said, but each one is capable of being split into 'Sub-Minds' so he can accomplish more things.

Jace SHOULD be unbanned in modern. I hate all the people saying "JACE IS BROKEN OHMYGOD HE'LL TAKE OVER AND CAWBLADE WILL REIGN SUPREME AGAIN" when bloodbraid elf literally comes down after jace and kicks jace right in the crotch, takes jace's lunch money, and jace is left to bleed out on the sidewalk in agonizing pain.
Let me just put this out there. Maybe it holds the real bolas and the dragon really isn't even bolas. Or like someone said earlier, it holds his true soul and to destroy him you have to destroy it.
I don't think they would do a he didn't even know it was there thing, I mean he is one of the strongest beings in the multiverse. To have him have all the powers he has yet he doesn't even know there is something between his horns would be kinda making him seem not so powerful imo,
Some of you may think that you have made great mistakes in your lives, and perhaps you have. But let me ask you this.... did you ever play strip poker with two fat chicks and win?
It's Nicol Bolas' egg. Dragon eggs take a long time to hatch, so she's keeping it safe between her horns.
What? You all thought she was a he? Nope. Nicol. Nicole. When she was in high school, she was known as Nicky Bolas, Nazi Prom Queen and ***** From Hell.
This made me lol...
Seriously though, what if was something he made that allowed him to planeswalk or such? Didn't see anyone else suggest it and I personally still favor the fact he's just that badass and awesome and doesn't need it, but don't know all the early lore on Bolas(so probably mistaken and I apologize).
According to the older images and such, he doesn't have it there. Maybe something from Alara just forgot mention?
Oh so he was always a full fledged planeswalker? I wasn't sure of old lore and such with him and when he became capable or if he used to at one time be normal so to speak.
Perhaps something he created keep from aging as rapidly or losing more power thanks to the mendings then..
*Just wish all this stuff was told to us from get go* lol
It is what remains of the Myojin of Night's Reach's "mask".
From what I understand Nicol Bolas (back when he was a god walker) obliterated Kamigawa as retribution for being imprisoned by a Umezawa. The mask is what lets him "mind rape" enemies I believe.
Sweet!!!!!

It should not be related, as Karn has nothing resembling that...although he does have some pretty markings over his already-artifact body now opposed to older pictures of him.
See that's what brought about my theory on it. If bolas didn't have it when he wasn't a walker and same with karn not having markings as you said vs now.. could that be related to it perhaps? No proof says otherwise yet.
Could merely be coincidence that that's the case and may be unrelated and purely unintentional but still stirs the curiousity.
It would help me more also to know of bolas before the mask and all too but saddly lost with that.

You don't choose to become a walker. You either are or you aren't.
Karn ended up with a spark after Urza became a part of him, but Karn didn't have any say in the matter.
If bolas didn't have it when he wasn't a walker ...
99.99% of planeswalkers are born with the spark, so they always have it. They "ascend" to become a planeswalker during a traumatic or emotional event, but they have the spark the whole time. Bolas is no exception.
Also, Karn always had those markings.

"No, seriously, it's right there."

To clarify, Bolas imprisoned Leshrac in the mask and tossed the mask into a time rift, destroying both the mask and Leshrac.
Also, Bolas didn't have the full mask, he only had 3/4 of it. Reach escaped with the rest.
