Sounds like something that possibly could be reveled in the future.
Certainly possible, but I wouldn't read too much into it. Pretty sure that was just meant as a comical response to an oddly phrased question, "Do we know why there's an egg like object between Nicol Bolas's horns?"
Maybe in Dragon Culture, the Female Dragons lay the eggs and then the Male Dragon takes care of them until they hatch. This was something that was NOT part of Nicol Bolas' plans.

Actually, Brady Dommermuth is nearly the exact opposite of Maro on twitter. While Maro can be all over the place, BD is pretty straightforward with all his replies. I'm pretty sure he really does mean that it'll be explained eventually.
(If we like the explanation is a totally different topic.)
Anyone is free to ask him questions on twitter. He openly explained that he doesn't quite get twitter but if anyone asks him a question he'll answer if he can.

Back in the Alara days I thought that it was what the Seekers were seeking, esspecially after they said the Seekers were Bolas's minions.
I havnt finished Test of Metal yet, but I believe using Carmot on Sangrite makes it into Etherium. Thus the innate magical nature of Etherium; it's Dragon's blood, refined and processed.
This does throw my theory out of whack because if Bolas could make Etherium the ENTIRE plot of Test of Metal is pointless.

Not necessarily. Bolas could have not known about the recipe for Etherium until after his business with Alara was complete. When Tezzeret shows up armless, but offering him the ability to make Etherium, Bolas (Figuratively) jumps at the opportunity to possibly gain a (more) impenetrable hide/unkillable body.

The Entire plot is already pointless since it self retconned virtually everything about itself.
Then Quest for Karn and Dark Discoveries ignored most of the rest of it.
Also, the author is really not a nice guy.
@Regitnui: You uh... should review what actually happened. Jace scrambled Tezzeret's brain to absolute mush and left him for dead. Bolas regrew Tezzeret's normal arm and put him back together. He then ORDERED Tezzeret to find the secret and threatened incessant torture if he didn't.
It's Nicol Bolas' egg. Dragon eggs take a long time to hatch, so she's keeping it safe between her horns.
What? You all thought she was a he? Nope. Nicol. Nicole. When she was in high school, she was known as Nicky Bolas, Nazi Prom Queen and ***** From Hell.
Sorry, but this post is just... PFFF!!!
On the other hand, I think those proposing it to be the main ingredient of etherium might be on to something. I admit that I haven't read the novels though.
I have a vague recollection of old card art that looks more or less like the "egg" as it appears in the Conflux Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker picture. From Onslaught, perhaps? Or something old-Phyrexian?
Wait, I was really surprised to see this discussion, because (now that i read all your posts in here guys, i truly dont know why I assumed this as given, but I did) I always thought that thing on between his horns was his meditation plane!.
I always thought, again, I DONT KNOW WHY (may be I just made it up all by my myself or maybe i took/saw it somewhere around the Alara block) that it represented some kind of personal plane of his, or where the dragon contains that realm or his psyquic powers.
I also thought it because of the Pools of Becoming picture:
Since Iam a huge fan of his character and i saw no thing on that picture, i thought that maybe we see his real self when we enter that realm, without it, because the thing IS the plane or represents his mind.
But... now that I read the wiki article, that plane has been used before on the storyline and his not his alone.
One thing that I was also thinking about was the shards manipulation made by Bolas, im I wrong or there was some ilustrations in wich we see mocks of what bolas has there?.
To finish... a little offtopic comment that this tread brought to my mind: its SAD to keep on seeing the treads on this forum, wich i used to enjoy to inform myself about the books and the like, and this is mainly because wizards completely destroyed the storyline on this last few years. Now it is all full of loose ends, contradictions, bad writters, bad books or no books at all, no use or respect of good and old storylines and characters, and it all keeps gaining this "discover the storyline by yourself" feeling, more and more, wich seems really really dumb on their part.
This bolas subject just brought back all those main problems to my mind again. We do not have any information about some facts of the recent events of the storyline because wizards seems just not to care about that.
Innistrad was a great point to start again but they came out with this postcard thing, no comic and no book a tall (not that it matters to see another book, im not giving them a chance again in my life after the Mirrodin/walking circus that was the last one).
Y just find it stupid that they say the are going to deliver flavor based blocks from now on when they DO NOT HAVE A STORY THAT THEY CARE ABOUT to based them!. They just keep destroying characters or being mysterious. Really tired of it.

It's still in that picture, it's just glowing with an extremely bright light. He probably focuses on it during meditation to help attain some sort of zen state.

U R Right!.
Then we have a fact out of that picture...he uses the "thing between the horns" to focus his power or something like that maybe.
As it said on the wiki (or should have. If it didn't let me know) the Meditation Plane actually alters itself to the whims and desires of the beings who use it. Since Bolas was trapped in it for... a long long time, he had free run of it and it probably changed quite a bit in that time.
I like to think that Bolas doesn't even know it's there. Like having food in your teeth.
It's going to be very awkward when someone finally tells him he has a arcane relic stuck between his horns.
Who do you think would say something to the giant terrible dragon?
My money is on Tezzeret, who is then stunned and flabberghasted that Bolas was unaware of it.

Darksteel Relic.
Assuming he has one.
Personally, I just think it's some sort of a mana battery that he hasn't had a need to use yet.
