Vhati il-Dal.
Coolest. Legend. Pic. Ever.
He died prematurely. He is the Darth Maul of Magic. Whatever, though. Death in fantasy storytelling is laughable. Anything can be undone. It's like with comic books.
considering that Rath itself is gone, he isn't coming back.
That's what the novel said. But it probably wasn't the only factor - this might have been the cause of his "senility", but he was in a bad shape physically as well.
He was an old dragon, he was not suddenly aging thousands of years in a short amoutn of time. His problem was holding all of the memories in a semi-mortal mind, which seems impossible even for a Dragon. Too bad Jodah can't come by and teach him to build houses in his mind to hold all of his memories.
And LOL and Vhati, his splattered corpse that was probably eaten by a random beast is now gone in the overlay of Rath. Goodluck bringing him back, lol.
I never said he began to age rapidly after the Mending, I'm aware of his limited brain capacity. What I meant was that in AU he was described as getting older physically (it was something about his scales, I'm too lazy to search for it right now ;)), so I just say his vanishing memory was not the only part of him that was getting worse...
I know his wings were starting to tatter and they were getting umm... creaky? They were starting to creak and pop that is.
Xantcha was awesome and I loved how she was the "am I really good? or is the world multiverse just ****ing with my head?" character.
Kallist (or however you spell his name) to come back as a "OMG! What a twist!" moment, I wouldn't put it past Liliana to resurrect/reanimate him just to **** with Jace. Or perhaps his mind could be somewhere in Jace's subconscious like Jace intended so he can plant him in a new body somewhere.
Nath, if we ever revisit Lorwyn/Shadowmoor I want to see this elf make a come back.
For some reason, I could picture Karn wearing sunglasses and kicking everyone's ass, just because he's a bad ass.
Either way, Karn will be back like the Terminator and the rest are probably dead for good.

As much as I loved Xantcha, I can't help but feel if they brought... ummm "her" back that it would take so much of her struggle and make it moot. Part of what made her character so tragic was... well, her TRAGIC end. While I wouldn't put it past Gix to maybe survive, Xantcha probably couldn't handle the pure temporal/spacial singularity that could deal with Gix.
As for Kallist... Why would Liliana do that? She LIKES Jace... possibly more than she has anyone else in a long long time. She's not a monster, she's just a person that's been backed into a corner. Of course, some trace of Kallist manifesting in Jace wouldn't be bad. Maybe some of his skills popping up or maybe just a hallucination in Jace's head... or would being crazy be too much like being Urza? Would it matter? People would still complain....
And Nath is dead. He's deader than dead. He is in fact DOUBLE DEAD. Rhys broke his neck and they burnt his body. Then, in Shadowmoor-verse Ashling SUPERburnt him to death again. The Extinguisher's flames being different than just a regular fire.
As for Bolas's absorption, we have no idea how he absorbed that mana. I think it was a lot different from just tapping it. With a creature like Omnath running around, it might not be too far-fetched that Bolas replicated something like that for himself. Except with more will power. It's entirely possible he cast a spell to let him absorb that mana rather than just using the mana as they do when casting spells.
So we can assume that he was aging? Hmmm... so we said that even sucking dry a whole plane wouldnt be enough to power one up to near old school walker levels... what could one do which such a huge amount of mana of all colors?
If we go into game mechanics, Bolas would lose the amount of mana pretty fast no matter how much he'd sucked up.
(I guess fluff technically its a bit different but the degeneration of the mana should be pretty fast, too?!)
So is there maybe a chance, that if a entity with a spark is now (after the mending) able to increase its power?
Like sucking dry a plane makes you "Level up! You're now at planeswalker spark level 2!!!" ?
And maybe it could be Bolas' ultimate goal to reach Level 100 and become a full old school walker again? Or limited access to the Blind Eternities by being able to rip a small whole in the very fabric of reality and draw mana from there? (just to give you a picture. It wouldnt need to work this way)
Well we don't know if the oldwalkers and neowalkers even have the same kind of spark. And i think it would be awesome if Bolas went around collecting levels like great dane in the pendragon series.
Old walkers and new walkers likely have the same spark. The nature of the spark changed with the mending, and all planeswalkers (old and new) seem to have the same powers. It seems weird to me that they'd have two distinct sparks if they have the same qualities.

I agree with the Xantcha and Nath bit, I would still like to see them come back is all. We could probably get like "an heir to Nath" in one way or another.
As for Kallist, Liliana may like or even love Jace, but he sort of betrayed her at the end of Agents of Artifice. While Jace vowed that he's try to help her, Liliana doesn't know that and she's been screwed over by almost everyone at the end of the novel. In other words, not to say that she's a monster, but "Hell hath no fury like a necromancer scorned" and if she's been betraying him from the day they met, even if it was under orders, it still means that she has the potential to do it again. If he ends up being a subconscious part of Jace, maybe Jace will start becoming more skilled with blades and weapons (Kallist's training only did so much for the mind mage) and be able to hold his own in a fist fight. Or perhaps, he'll just go plan Urza on us, like you suggested, and get all obsessive and crazy to avenge his best friend.

The Baron controls pretty much an entire plane so why would he want Zendikar? Plus with the depowered walkers it is impossible for him to leave Ulgrotha anymore.
No, he can still very much leave Ulgrotha via the Dwarven Gate. But it's probably a one-way street. There would be no returning once he'd made the journey.

I thought all of that interplanar travel, non-walkers gates etc were all basically sealed/destroyed when the rifts went poof? Don't tell me Freyalise rocketing into the night was for nothing! Poor Rockey Freyalise, you were teh awesome yet useless :-(
The rift between Kamigawa and Dominaria was caused when Grandmother Sengir rang the Apocalypse Chime*. The Dwarven Gate was an magical doorway to another plane that wasn't caused by the time rifts, or affected by them at all (that we know of). It's certainly possible that it was closed, but nothing has said as much yet.
* - Just wanted to point out that that actually was an accurate statement. We throw around a lot of goofy scenarios on these boards, especially lately, but that particular goofy scenario is actually part of cannon. Unfortunately.

Ages and ages ago in Future Sight (or Time Spiral). Nicol Bolas told us about it when he was talking about the Talon Gate rift. The rift existed, but it was infinitely deepened when "poor mad Ravi rang her chime" which implies that Bolas knew about Ulgrotha WAY before the mending.
I may be alone in this but I'd love to see Niv-Mizzet. If I'm not mistaken (I'm a storyline noob but it's my true calling) he disappeared from Ravnica and cannot be detected by the rest of the guild. He isn't necessarily a Planeswalker but this is evidence enough for me.

You are not alone. A lot of people want to see the Firemind return. Brady did come by and say he's still on Ravnica at the moment though.
Of course, I don't know how well we'd like having 2 dragon planeswalkers both of which have u/r in their colors.
Oh heck, who am I kidding, at this point, I wouldn't mind, so long as it wasn't ANOTHER human walker.
You know, I loved the idea of the Baron's comeback... until now. You've ruined my dreams, man!
That doesn't mean you're wrong though... sadly, you're probably not.
I would much rather have the Baron liv eon in obscurity then have him come back and be all like "Blaaaaah(vampire noise) I want to suck your blood walker, blaaaah! I need it now to use the dwarven gate, blaaaaaah."
