I was recently in a small comic shop and was just checking out there bargain bin and was able to pic up 15 magic the gathering comics from the mid 1990's. The art is fantastic, and the story's have been great, they really tie up some loose ends about specific characters.
so i picked them up for a buck each still brand new, some even came w/ tokens and crappy cards like chub toad lol. Ive been playing since 4th and it has totally brought back memories. I wish i picked more of these up when they were printed.. I'm probably gonna start to collect them, if of course i can find more.
anyone else have any of the old Comics, or have read them, any opinions on what ones are the best.
i'm a fan of the homelands ones, they special edition one is fantastic.
I still have some of them packed away in my basement. my favorite was the ice Age comics. i loved their version a lot, especially Freyalise and the Keldon empire. When I read the Ice Age novel block for the first time I picture Freyalise with those wine wings whenever she wa sinvolved in the story. I prefer that art to her pixie haircut one a lot.
hey thanks for the reply guys, i didn't realize more people were intrested in the comics.
unfortunatly i bought them out lol. at $1 i couldn't resist.
I agree about the writing style, but i still enjoyed the ones ive read so far... the ice age ones are pretty awesome, ive read issue 1 and 2 at the moment, and the part when leshrac transforms lim-dul into a demon was pretty awesome. Leshrac looks bomb.
also i didn't realize freyalise started off as a red mage.. haha i always thought she was super green.
i just love the stories of all the old characters, i dunno about any of you, but i just can't get into the new storyline w/ all the bradywalkers.
Does anyone have a link to all the online comics, would be nice to see what im missing, or how many were printed.
My favorites were the Shadowmage/Wayfarer comics, I constantly wish they had finished the storyline with The Planeswalker War. I will agree that the dialogue is horrid in parts, but I really like the characters, I thought Ravidel was a great, somewhat sympathetic villain and Jared Carthalion worked well as a hero and sometimes anti-hero (see the beginning of the Wayfarer series). I even started a fanfiction prequel to the series, centering on Ravidel before Faralyn and the Summit at the Null Moon, but I've since abandoned it because of time issues (preparing for grad school's a *****).
By the way, the Dakkon Blackblade comic is also pretty good, though I doubt if you found that in the bargain bin because it's a full graphic novel. I would like to see more of Geyadrone Dihada, she seems like she would have made an interesting villain. As far as the Bradywalkers go, they're hit or miss depending on the author. Agents of Artifice made me like Jace, Tezzeret, and Liliana Vess. Alara Unbroken made me hate Ajani, Elspeth (redeemed by the comic a little, though), Nicol Bolas, and Sarkhan Vol. The Purifying Fire made me mildly interested in where Chandra's going, and I'd like to see Gideon show up again, but only as a law obsessed totalitarian villain who is convinced he is doing everything for the greater good. And Garruk interests me only so far as I can make bestiality jokes about him.

Also, you might not know: Don't pitch the cards! They have a little more worth than you think; since they were printed at a different time than the base set they have a different copyright date. '95 instead of '94 or something... a bit of a collectors item. You can check that Magic Rarities website for perhaps a little more info.

the coolest thing was the counters. they were little squares that read +1+1 or -1-1 or +1-1 etc. haha there is even poison counters so if it comes back im rdy!
just read the nightmare comic, it was rather horrid. So predictable and unoriginal.
im now reading the antiquities one, so far so good.
too bad the antiquities ones didn't come w/ any cards
I have a few of the comics myself, I am curious were the link for the digital copies could be found since it would allow me to finish reading up on some of them
homelands, drawn by the infamous artist Guay, man its my favorite, always will be. The other are good reads too, never got some of the rarer ones, like the Nightmare, Serra Angel, or the Fallen Angels.
If I remember right, the Dakkon Blackblade comic was drawn by Rags Morales - that might be worth something now, since he's still pretty popular and it's a hard-to-find comic with his work.

I enjoyed the Homelands comic as well, but I wasn't aware that Guay had such a bad reputation.

Methinks he is somewhat exagerating in the wrong direction.
If anyone has a bad reputation when it comes to Rebecca Guay, it would probably be Jeremy Cranford.
It's been a while since I've heard the story, but to my understanding Cranford said that Guay's services would not be required at the time. The fans then rioted until Guay was asked back. There was probably some miscommunication involved and lots of things were blown out of proportion.
Overall, the incident inspired the unhinged card Persecute Artist.
The thing about Guay is, people either love or loathe her work. For every rabid and vocal fan she has (such as yours truly), it seems she has an equally rabid and vocal hater. Hence the controversy.

yeah, she doesn't really like to talk about it. Or the fact that she is only a half elf.

Dunno, just the first thing that came up under Google. Never used it before, it says $6...
If not that, you can search "Magic" for the rest of them.
