Heyo, so with confirmation on 100% multi-color for ARB, does that mean we will see a set that returns to alara in the future? my reasoniong being the future sight card Nacatl War Pride. this card was not featured in Shards or Coinflux and is not multi color.
Well, not really. I mean, just because the card was in Future Sight doesn't necessarily mean that it has to get "reprinted" in a future set. WotC could go out of business, the card could be too powerful, Western civilization could collapse, etc.
But I really hope another we get another set out of Alara. One book for the best setting in years is just stupid.

Sure, right after those new expansions to Homelands and Kamigawa that players have Just Been Itching For.
In all seriousness, they probably won't stick with Alara after its reborn. Once the 'Big Threat' is brought low during the last expansion (Memnarch, Nephilim, Oona, Bolas et al), Magic tends to move on. But I'm reasonably sure that if Wizards doesn't go out of business next week, revisiting past planes is in the back of at least one designer's mind.
How many times must we go over this? Future-shifted cards only show possible futures. No guarantee exists that any FS card will ever be reprinted, even if the block/theme they show off comes to fruition. Nactal War Pride will likely never be reprinted. Nothing of value will be lost and the abscence of the card isn't indicative of anything. As for the future of Alara in the overaching Magic storyline after ARB? Hard to say at this point. We'll have a better idea once the block is done.
It is pretty safe to say that after ARB the only echance we might get to see it is in a Planeswalker novel. Like how we see Kamigawa and Ravnica in AoA.
And yes, please bring back Kamigawa, homelands, and of course Dominaria
The original homelands were really terrible, but in this case I agree solely because I want to see the army of vampires lead by Sengir mentioned in Future Sight.
I would've wanted to know more of the Autumn Willow (geebeez, are female maros fated to die in Magic?! i.e. Titania... this is so sexist >: ( ), but seeing that FS tidbit it might be that she faded due to the loss of Mana or got defeated by Sengir. :/

A storyline about a vampire overlord, the love of two planeswalkers which really is a Romeo and Juliet story(Feroz dies protecting Ulgrotha and then Serra dies). Autumn Willow, Spectral Bears, Apocalypse Chime" target="blank">Apocalypse Chime! So many classics to explore!
A lot of people have wanted a novel for Ulgrotha for a long time now!

your ignorance is showing. homeland cards were horrible, but the story was/is pretty decent and fans have been clamoring for a return to homelands.
You could get around the Homelands-hate. I guarantee if you did a set built around the Ulgrothan invasion of Ravnica, you would have so much win on your hands you wouldn't know what to do with it all. You'd literally have to give win away daily, you'd just have too much of it.

yeah but they did an ivasion of a plane thing already...and it was win...

I'm sure someone, possibly several people would like to see Homelands V.2, but a handful of diehards doesn't speak for the rest of the group, or the people who just play the game and don't care what goes on behind the decks. I wouldn't exactly call a couple message board threads and fan-made cards 'clamoring', however.
Wizards just did a nostalgia block, with two nostalgia expansions preceeding it. I'm not saying it won't happen, or that I don't want it to happen, I just don't think Wizards is willing to devote another block to Alara after Bolas is left shaking his fist screaming "Next time, Elspeth! NEXT TIME!" in Alara Reborn, less so any expansions that weren't as well-received in their time.
Agreed, but to the topic: where do you expect the War-Pride to appear then? The upcoming core set? Or you don't think it will be reprinted at all?
Why are people honestly expecting every FS timeshifted card to be reprinted? Those cards were only to indicate potential design space and hint at settings, nothing more. Some will be reprinted as it's appropriate, but some (Sarcomite Myr, War-Pride, and others) are only hints of mechanics or settings to come or are complete red herrings.
well, an enchantment theme would be nice. its never been thoroughly explored before.. a card mechanic id love to see on future themes would be 'Aura Swap' its cool..
also, if you'd read its flavor text well, it depicts nobles of some sort related with a slight hint of narcism. kinda makes you also think that its associated somehow with patrician's scorn.
yep enchantment theme on a gothic/medieval fantasy realm should be a great step for me.
Yes, we most likely will. And, in fact, after more whining by the playerbase, all three sets will get the same sequel. It'll turn out that Alara is actually a VERY early Ravnica. We'll see it several hundred years down the line before the guildpact but after the guilds themselves have formed. It will still be very Alara feeling, but two color instead of three.
Set One will feature the Guilds at war, set two will feature Ulgrotha invading forcing the guilds to unite, and Set Three will be picking up the pieces and will end with the creation of the Guildpact.

Alara is not Ravnica -_- In Agents of Artifice we see the characters on Ravnica and on Grixis so they simply can not be the same plane.
Oh my! Are those facts? I certainly hope they don't interrupt the sweet baseless speculation we got going here.
Even if we do return to Alara, it won't be for some time, methinks. Wizards is hot for the plane-a-year model and I can't really blame them. I think for a long time, the closest we'll get to revisiting Alara will be Planeswalker novels. Otherwise, Wizards doesn't seem overly keen on revisiting settings or staying in one place for too long.

Speculate all you want as long as you do not ignore the facts. Ravnica in the present exists while there is a Grixis. Thus, Alara can not become Ravnica...it is simple logic.
Unless there's another horrible Mirrodin-style time manipulation to make continuity "work".
Eidtelnvil - Keeping pointless speculation topics running since 1982.
Well, it's now apparent that we won't be sticking around on Alara for the next block. Ho-hum. I kind of hoped we'd stay. The creative/design teams really did a great job with the Alara setting and I kind of hoped we'd get more (perhaps a two-block storyline similar to the Otaria storyline, only without the nose bleeds and frequent seizures that resulted from it).

Bite your tongue or a Karona will be born from the Maelstrom closing up! Probably a child of alara trying to rip it apart and it is up to two masturbating portal men to kill it! Wow how pedofile!
In all seriousness the next block might follow one of the Planeswalkers either form AoA or from Alara. That or just go to a completely new plane with its own storyline. Though I wish they would follow either Jace or Ajani(my favorites out of the current Neowalkers) to a new plane where they somehow get involved with what is going on there. Plus, am I the only one that owuld like a plane that isn't on the verge of collapsing? I would LOVE a political, war driven story set is like a victorian time meets magic setting. That would somewhat bring us back to The Brothers War type setting on another plane.
Mikey, he's right, though. Alara is not a city plane. Ravnica was an entire city plane. Ergo, they are not the same.
I h ave not read Agents of Artifice (Nor will I till it's a paperback), but we do know that Ravnica takes place ten thousand years after the guildpact was signed, and that the plane existed before the guildpact was signed. After all, it wasn't always a City.

In Agents of Artifice the main setting is on Ravnica after the guilds have disbanded. The setting of Ravnica is bleak after the guilds are completely gone. They have existed and the guildpact is broken.
In Agents of Artifice they also visit Grixis for a few chapters and speak with Nicol Bolas on Grixis.
Grixis exists before Alara is reborn and since Ravnica exists after the Guildpact is broken in the same time as Grixis, Alara simply can not be Ravnica pre-world city. I am not saying Ravnica was simply a city from its birth but it is not Alara, unless when Alara joins together it makes a trip across time in which would just mess everything up on the scale of Mirrodins Timeline and Karona.

And we know how proficient the current creative is with time. This is just a concoction of another plot disaster waiting to happen (the parts i bolded). Maybe this time, TIME itself would go sentient and distort things here and there.

I second the war-setting. That always makes for interesting fantasy. I'd also like a not-so-magic-oriented plane. Magic really loses its lure when Joe that lives down the street and hasn't returned your rake in three years despite being asked to on several occasions knows how to cast Obliterate.
