The Shadowmoor book will contain some short stories. A nice side effect of doing short stories is as a sort of testing ground for new authors. We'll see.
Another side effect is that some old authors will get a chance to break the McGough/Herndon stranglehold on Magic.

Well, I think that the stranglehold is not a bad thing at all
Anyway, I am looking forward to see your work again, but do not bring J.R.King back, please ;). But if you meet Jeff Grubb somewhere on the way, make sure to take him to us.:D

It's only a bad thing in that none of the rest of us get to play in that universe anymore.
As for Jeff Grubb, I actually work with him at ArenaNet now. I'm not sure if he wrote a story for this anthology or not, but I will ask him.
And, while I know some people did not like the Onslaught cycle, Rob King is a great guy and a fine writer (The Thran is put near the top of many readers' lists of the best MtG novels of all time). In addition, he is, perhaps, the best editor I've ever worked with (on The Monsters of Magic).
It isn't the fault of any storyline fan that WOTC got greedy and decided to add a 4th expansion to the block (or, two 2 set blocks, but a block isn't less than 3 sets in my personal opinion, so that's bosh), yet it seems here we find out we're going to pay for it. How?
1) Firstly, there isn't going to be a 4th book of relevant plot and character development. This means that the fact Lorwyn was incredibly slow and very unrevealing is NULL, and the book becomes plain boring. Oddessy all over again-- great book, too much mystery to be amazing. I still enjoyed the novel, but i enjoyed it with the thought the slower pace had to do with an added novel. Now that i'm proven wrong, this is quite a sticking point in my side.
2) I never read Anthologies, since i was so busy getting through the meat of the series, but have they ever had main storyline relevance? Somehow I seriously doubt there are many connecting stories of any importance. Therefore, I don't see the point in a new Anthologies, ESPECIALLY AS BOOK 3 of 4 BOOKS.
3) It is BOOK 3 of 4 BOOKS! I mean, What the HELL Wizards!?!? That means we have to wait the extra few months JUST to finish this mollases paced storyline block as IS?
I cry shenanigans, and i have to say as a relatively new (though pretty quickly knowledged) storyline member, i am furious to say the very least at these ****** developments.
Well, I think that the stranglehold is not a bad thing at all
I do. Compare Future Sight with Chainer's Torment or Emperor's Fist. There's a big lack of "finish". Or compare Lorwyn to Ravnica (the first book in the cycle). As long as two authors have to keep churning out six books a year, we're not going to get good results.

And speaking of Jeff, I asked and he did not write a story for this anthology.
Sigh. When will we get more sweet Jeff Grubb candy? I wish they'd throw the Grubb short story for Coldsnap in there. I know it has absolutely nothing to do with Lorwyn, but I still haven't read it.

Let me get this strait-- Shadowmoor is a book about Lorwyn that will be released along with the second book in the Lorwyn cycle? Lorwyn will continue the story, but Shadowmoor will be comprised of viginettes?
Kamigawa should have had this. It had many legends that were not given stories as well as so many possibilities for stories... That block should have gotten a vignette book (though the online stories were great).
Only part of Shadowmoor will be short stories, to the best of my recollection. We have no word about what the stories will be about so far. Hopefully they'll have something to do with the bradywalkers. We have confirmation, though, that Jeff Grubb won't be writing any of the short stories, which sucks.
But I have to agree. Kamigawa's filler legends had a lot of depth, as the vignettes on mtg.com displayed. Some of the stories were "meh," but most of them were interesting. I'd much rather have more stories about the legends of Kamigawa than ::shudder:: Lorwyn. Lorwyn doesn't have enough depth to make an interesting novel, let alone three novels, and definitely not enough to support a series of short stories.
So, yeah. Kamigawa = Good. Lorwyn = I'm going to take a nap now.

Or maybe Fourth book will have its own plot, and what was started in Lorwyn book ends in Morningtide? After all, Lorwyn and Shadowmoor are two mini-blocks.
A two book cycle with Lorwyn as book 1? That's even SCARIER!!!
Who's complaining about Emperors Fist and Torment? Best two 2nd books of all. Two of the best books period really though.
Here's a bit of random speculation:
I think that because lorwyn is a world of never ending daylight, shadowmoor will be a realm of perpetual night. I also believe that Oona may be a connection between the worlds, and that possibly Maralen, from the lorwyn book, is a planeswalker from shadowmoor.
Yeah... I'm ready to get out of Lorwyn and back into some Kamigawa or Mirrodin. I just really, really don't like the cheeriness of Lorwyn. Also, King wasn't that bad... he just... fine. You all win.

My signature was created by Zaphod of High~Light Studios. He's brilliant.
King was great, as long as they kept him on a short leash. The Time Streams book and The Thran were really good reads. But when the editors fall asleep and allow him to do whatever the hell he likes with continuity (which should be THEIR job, IMO), then he really just falls apart.
Still, I hope King at least has a short story coming up.

Aw, Will, you're not THAT old.
Thanks, I'll be here all week, please tip your wait staff...they're the real heroes.

True. I'm not Jeff Grubb old (although I dodge that bullet by only a few years).
And speaking of Jeff, I asked and he did not write a story for this anthology.
