I just heard about this project on reddit. Seems to be a magic client but with rules/trigger automation. Development of new cards is slow because they code in each one individually.
Here is a link to the site for more information/forums etc.
I've tried it, and it works great. The only problem is that around 9pm Mountain time the public servers go down for an hour or two, which makes it impossible to do deck testing. More people should use this over Cockatrice, it really is an improvement...
I've been using this program and it really is great. Yes the servers get taken down once in a while for some reason but that is why I use Cockatrice as a back up.
I like it. Cockatrice feels a little faster but XMage has more. I don't like how you can only see 6 cards in your starting hand because the stack area covers the last card.
lel context free grammar. You can't CFG card abilities because Magic's grammar isn't context free. I really do want to try runtime text interpretation, though.

The program is great when it runs but I can't get it to stop crashing/disconnecting. I have a hard time getting through a whole match without a disconnect on my end or the other player's end.
I left it. So many connections lost, server down, couldn't connect, and the overall slow responsiveness made me stop playing. I'll have to wait for a better version because at current state I can't play.

Unfortunately I have to agree with you.
The software is slow and laggy, disconnects happen frequently, which is okay if reconnecting works but it doesn't a significant amount of the time.
yeah I desperately want this to work but I've played a dozen games and I never could finish one.
There was always a crash, so it's unplayable. With time it will improve, but by then I'm sure WoTC will shut it down by suing it into oblivion.

I've played many games on public and private servers. Lately I've been doing a bunch of 1 vs 1 sealed pools with friends of mine. The program works great and FRF was included before FRF was even available on MTGO. I've seen the public servers go down occasionally, but never a crash.
Really enjoying this program! Interface could be a little cleaner but for free i absolutely am enjoying this to the full extent.
My only real complaint is there aren't enough people that know about this program! How can we go about advertising this great program so more people can play it? The more people playing means more games and more people being able to find and report bugs. Probably just gonna try and keep posting about it in the Cockatrice chatroom and hope people come.

Does anyone have a problem with not having all the card sets included? I can't get any cards from Conspiracy or Planeshift, for example.
this is a late reply, but xmage unfortunately doesnt have all the cards yet. they are working on it. but i dont know how many months (years?) itll take to finish the entire mtg collection.
I put that and the launcher itself into /Applications/XMage.
Now when I bring up Alfred, I can simply start typing "XMage" and it will auto-complete, starting XMage.app which launches XMageLauncher-*.jar with Apple's Jar Launcher.app.
You shouldn't trust me, so "Show Package Contents" for XMage.app in Finder and read Contents/Resources/Scripts/main.scpt to verify that it's only launching the XMage launcher.

Does anyone have a solution to this?

I made a quick "XMage launcher launcher": http://files.curby.net/XMage.app.zip
I put that and the launcher itself into /Applications/XMage.
Now when I bring up Alfred, I can simply start typing "XMage" and it will auto-complete, starting XMage.app which launches XMageLauncher-*.jar with Apple's Jar Launcher.app.

Hope this helps someone out there.
2) Use the right number of each card.
3) Know your probabilities.
4) Print your deck lists; make yourself and your judges happier.
