Octgn stands for Online Card and Tabletop Gaming Network. It is a 100% free open-ended graphical card game emulator. With it, you can play your favorite card games with your friends online! Because of the versatility of its programming, OCTGN can be fully customized to accommodate any type of game. This website is dedicated towards providing you with the full Magic: The Gathering experience through OCTGN. You can visit the official OCTGN website at http://www.octgn.net
OCTGN beautifully displays the full artwork of the card on a fully-adjustable table. Cards can freely move around, and aren't locked to a grid.
What do I need?
OCTGN runs off Microsoft's .NET 4.0 framework. You must have the latest version in order to properly install OCTGN to your system. Download the latest version HERE.
Once you have that installed, you can download the OCTGN client HERE. It should launch automatically.
Where are all the games?
Due to legal reasons, OCTGN doesn't come with any games.
Each game available exists as a Game Definition file, with the extension .O8G. These files tell OCTGN everything it needs to know about the game in order to you to play it. You can think of these files as Apps, and OCTGN itself as a phone.
You can find the Magic: the Gathering Game Definition file HERE. To install it, load up OCTGN and click on "Manage Installed Games". This will take you to the game database, which lists all your installed Games on the left box. Click "Install a New Game" and select the Game Definition (.O8G) you want to install.
I installed the Game Definition, but where are all the cards?
The Game Definition does not include any of the cards associated with that game. To get the actual cards, you must download the Set Definition files, with the extension .O8S. These files are typically grouped together according to the expansions or sets that the card game has.
You can find all the Set Definition files associated with Magic: The Gathering HERE. To install them, load up OCTGN and click on "Manage Installed Games". Once inside, select the game you would like to add the sets to. Then click "Install New Cards" and select the Set Definitions (.O8S) you want to install. You can select more than one set at a time!
I've got everything set up, where do I find other players?
There is currently no integrated chatroom or match-making system inside OCTGN.
You can find other players at our dedicated chatroom HERE. For mIRC users, you can find this chat at irc.ircstorm.net channel #octgn.
The Sealed Deck Editor is a popular mode among OCTGN users, as it allows the player to build a Sealed deck with whatever packs they want then duke it out with other players!
A note regarding torrents and OCTGN downloaded files:
There is a group of people who maintain the official MTG files for OCTGN. There has to be some sort of quality control with these files to ensure that everyone who plays is using the same files, and that the files function correctly. I'm asking that players do NOT modify their game and set files, and PLEASE do not distribute these modified files. As of now, the only places to get the official files are at http://octgn.gamersjudgement.com. If there is an issue with any of the files, please report them to either me (for game definition-related errors) or Gaspare (for set-related issues) instead of attempting to fix it yourself, as we can make sure everyone gets the same file afterwards.
As for the numerous torrents available on the internet: I've been leaving warning messages on as many comments sections as I can. The issue with the torrents is that they are guaranteed to contain outdated files that have compatibility issues with the most recent build of OCTGN and the MTG game files. In addition, many of them contain files that have been modified without our knowledge. Because of this and the reasons outlined in the previous paragraph, these torrents should NOT be downloaded.
NOTE: These change logs may be out of date. Please visit the OCTGNsets forum to view the most up-to-date files

as much as I really love OCTGN, don't we already have a topic on it?
EDIT: just finished reading your post on the other thread, sorry about that. Keep up the good work
Due to different time zones, unfortunately brine couldn't know that i would have updated scars file which had a typo in a card name (grasp of darkness was grip of darkness). In the main page of the download site (https://sites.google.com/site/octgnsets/home) you'll find the correct link, along with a little patch for those who have downloaded the set before i could patch it. As soon as i contact brine he'll update the link in his previous post.
Sorry for the inconvenience, it has been a lack of comunication by my side.
I've been in contact with the owner of tappedout.net, which is an online multiplayer draft simulator. we may be able to set up drafting relatively soon with it.

The problem I see with drafting in OCTGN:
all 8 player join the same room to draft, then they proceed to draft in a window similar to the one in sealed. So far, all is good.
But after that, all 8 players have to play on the same "table" don't they?

It's strange that so many people choose to be stupid...
yeah that's one of the issues I was afraid of too. Here's what I posted on the OCTGN forums about the idea:
I've been thinking lately about how drafting will work in OCTGN2. First, there's a few issues I can see with it:
having all 6-10 people remain connected to do the draft will be difficult to accomplish
there would need to be some sort of matchmaking game lobby to organize the matches between these 6-10 people (unless all the players have a big multiplayer free-for-all)
if somebody disconnects then all that time spent drafting is toast
Gaspare recently showed me this website http://tappedout.net/mtg-draft-simulator/. Basically its a webpage-based draft simulator which allows for multiplayer drafting. Bots can be placed in the empty seats, so even if only two players are drafting then its still the full draft experience.
Now, if we could contact the people who run this website, and see if they can add an "export as OCTGN deck .o8d" option like they already do for MWS and apprentice, then the only change OCTGN needs to make is to allow players to load decks into the Sealed Deck Editor and possibly save them.
The HUGE advantages to this are:
Very little updating on the OCTGN client itself
It doesn't NEED all 8 people to play
Matchmaking can be easily done externally (such as in the chat room)
only two players have to be connected at a time
in the case of disconnects, the player's decks and card pools will still be accessible
as of RIGHT NOW, it is possible to draft and build your deck on this website, export it as an OCTGN deck file, use the chatroom to organize the matches, then connect to your single opponent and load up your deck. All of this is 100% possible with the current OCTGN build.
Octgn can support virtually any number of players. It doesn't have any limitation by itself. Of course screen size and maybe a good connection for massive multiplayer game (>6 players) are the obvious limits that you must take in consideration
But you'd still have four different games trying to be played with only one chat box?
Yes, actually I didn't think about that, it's an obvious problem. I don't know how draft will be handled (it's still on the works), but i'm pretty confident that the solution used will consider every aspect in the right way
Probably you moved the set file after you installed it. Uninstalling and reinstalling it (without moving the file after installation) should fix the issue

I realize most (all?) of the relevant conversation was deleted, but I want to say something early on here. Brine is officially involved with OCTGN2. As such, per his request, I'm not going to allow unofficial set file information or redistribution links here. Their links are what there is. That's it.
Some people may not understand this - but I do. Things would get ugly quickly if people started putting up their own edited MSE game files. And as I wouldn't appreciate that, the same respect will be extended to brine and OCTGN.
I didn't want this to become another argument thread, and I realized afterwards that the posts should have gone through PMs instead so we agreed to remove the posts.
Thanks for the support btw... I've been dealing with the unofficial sources for a few weeks now so my attitude regarding them has gone quite sour lately, especially after the kickasstorrents "fiasco" last week.
Am I missing whatever the way is to scry to the bottom of the library?
When you drag the card to your library, if you hover it to the bottom half of the pile a white arrow shows up, indicating when you let go the card will go to the bottom.
Also can you explain why I am getting this error for Portal Second Age:
'Portal_Second_Age.v1.0.[GO].o8s' an error occured during installation:
Error 309 (Provider v. 3.3.1.54 Express): Duplicate key found in index: SetPK: row#544 :id(405ed74a-e7ed-3ca7-68c4-51a690cb21d5)

Error 250 (Provider v. 3.3.1.54 Express): Cannot create row:

All of my sets are the latest from the zips you have up and then the 4 you dont have in the zips + Scars of Mirrodin.
I know how to open the xml files in the sets so if its a easy fix feel free to tell me how.
Never edit any xml files, if your's different from the one your opponent's using, they could be some complications ingame. Also, Brine and Gaspare are both doing a tremendous job on OCTGN, and I assume they both have a life too, give them time...
haaaya =3, im new here but i gots a quicky question....if i want all cards do i have to download ALL the decks or can i just download the core decks? =x, soooooooorry for the stupid question T_T,
im new to magic period, i have some cards and been practicing alot but i kinda want to play against some of my friends and were trying to get this to work, we think we got it all we need now are cards but um...yeah what i said above, any answere will be appriciated =3
Looking to play some Magic online with a few of my friends, but I cannot get the Scourge set to download from Mediafire.
I've tried with two computers in my house, with no luck. But all the rest of the set files work so far.. What gives?
[edit] Portal also seems to be FUBAR, at least on my end.
I'd like to have all of the sets, bein' OCD and all..
Can someone fix them, or maybe point me to a mirror for the time being?
It's all mediafire fault, sometimes it happens. Usually they fix that in a couple of days max. I hope you don't really need scourge and portal to try out octgn
Anyway, we are working on alternatives, stay tuned
@apocryphim: you need to ask one of the staff for aproval, namely jods, fred or pyyhttu. That had to be done due to excessive spamming bots
