I was just at a friends house playing my modern solarflaire deck and i ended up winning the game and everyone got mad at me for using proxies. It was a casual game and we were not playing in a tournament or playing for money or packs. Are proxies not allowed in casual format? I would also like to add that I only have 8 proxies in a 60 + card deck!
Personally- I have no problem with using proxies or playing against others who do. There is economic disparity amongst the people I play with and being able to use any card you like helps to smooth that out. I use proxies to build and test a deck and once I have it how I want it I order all the cards.

Proxies* are strictly forbidden in the Magic Tournament Rules, but casual games are not necessarily governed by the MTR. The Comprehensive Rules refer to "traditional Magic cards" in a couple of places, but this is loosely defined. Ultimately, in a casual setting it is up to your group whether to allow proxies, since the DCI does not govern what people do with casual games. It is reasonable for people to expect adherence to parts of the MTR in the interest of being consistent with how things would operate in a tournament, though.
So basically: Nothing explicitly forbids you from using proxies in casual, but it's good form not to use them if your group doesn't approve of them.
*There are legal proxies, but only when issued by a judge in extenuating circumstances like a card being damaged during a tournament. Cards that are altered by a player to represent other cards are never allowed per MTR.
yeah but is there any reason for people to get mad about this in a casual game?
Well people will certainly have their reasons for getting "mad." I wouldn't think many of those reasons would be completely valid. Of course I don't know what all of those reasons would be in advance.
However, if that is the mentality of your group- you will have to comply or find another group. The herd will not easily be swayed.
Depends on the person. I don't mind proxies when testing or playing casually. I would rather play against a complete deck than an incomplete one.
However, I am a competative player. Casual players may not feel the same way if they lose to the proxied card while they are only playing with cards they have. They may see that as cheating.
The deckbuilding rules for "casual" are essentially "whatever the players agreed to before building decks". Had these friends been playing together for some time before you joined them? They might have already agreed among themselves that proxies (or certain proxies) were cheesy, and then assumed you knew that.

Why bother with mere rulings when so many answers can be found in the Rules?
