Hi ! I looked a bit on google and on this forum and I didn't find any answer to my question.
I'm just wondering how Equilibrium works. Can I activate it more than once per creature I play ? Could I pay 3 and return 3 creature to their owner's hand by playing just one creature ? Must I have three Equilibrium in order to pay 3 ? My friend told me I could just pay one per creature, no matter how many Equilibrium are in play, so I was looking around to see if it's true since I'm building a deck with it.
Thanks !

Equilibrium has a triggered ability that triggers when you cast a creature spell. When it resolves, it asks you to pay 1. If you do, you'll be able to return the targetted creature, and only that creature, to its owner's hand. You'll need multiple Equilibriums to do what you want.
Your friend is correct.
What happens when you cast a creature with an Equilibrium on the battlefield is that the Equilibrium triggers once, and when the trigger resolves it asks for a payment of a single colorless mana.
If you pay the mana, you can bounce the creature you targeted. If you don't, then you can't.
It's a yes/no option, not something you can pay more than once per creature cast.
Equilibrium has a triggered ability that triggers each time it's condition is met.
When the trigger is put on the attack, you choose a target, and when it resolves you choose if you want to pay the 1.
This means you can only return 1 creature per equilibriu, per creature you play.
If you have 3 equilibrium, you can pay up to 3 times pet creature you play, and if you have only one, you can only return one per creature.
Equilibrium has a triggered ability that triggers once per creature spell. It asks you to pay 1, and if you do it returns a creature.
It never asks you to pay 1 any number of times, nor does it ask you to pay X.
Multiple copies of Equilibrium will trigger separate and independent of one another, and each will ask you to pay 1. If you chose different creatures as targets when they triggered, you will be able to return as many creatures to their owner's hands as you have copies of Equilibrium on the battlefield.
Thanks a lot guys ! And I assume that I can return the creature I played in my hand ? Let's say I play Mystic Snake, if I pay the 1 colorless mana, I can return it to my hand ?
If I have 3 Equilibrium and I play a Ornithopter, I can pay 3 to return 2 of my opponent's creatures to their owner's hand and then target my Ornithopter and repeat ?

No, that does not work.
Equilibrium triggers on you casting the spell, meaning the ability will resolve before the creature spell does - meaning the creature is not yet on the battlefield.
Also you need to choose the target for Equilibrium's ability the moment it goes onto the stack - which is right after you cast the creature spell but before it resolves - at which point the creature is not a legal target, as you can only target creatures on the battlefield at that moment.

When in doubt, call a judge.
Objectivist here. Hit me up to talk philosophy.
